General Discussion / Mesh Network dustless payments
« on: June 17, 2014, 12:21:06 am »
There are a number of mesh network projects out there, and I think one of the biggest things holding them back is lack of incentive for participation.

Because of this, I'm developing a plan for trustless, dustless, session based payments for bandwidth between two nodes.

The idea is that when two nodes initially connect, they share the prices (denominated in bitUSD or any other bit asset) at which each is willing to provide bandwidth.  They also establish a joint multisig wallet, requiring that both nodes sign any spending transactions.  Each node contributes a deposit to the escrow account to establish commitment, and both nodes begin tracking bandwidth usage over their link.  By multiplying each node's bandwidth usage by the opposing node's advertised bandwidth price, they can establish the running balance due to each node from the escrow account to settle up and close their session.  The indebted node is required to use this running balance to create and privately share with the creditor node a signed settling transaction, which is discarded and replaced periodically (before its referenced block becomes too old) until the end of the session.  At any time, the creditor node may end the session by taking this transaction, adding its signature, and sending it to the delegates for inclusion in the blockchain.

This replaces the need for microtransactions and blockchain bloat, while allowing the participants to withdraw and cash out at any time.

General Discussion / DPOS chain based ratings and reputation
« on: May 11, 2014, 11:51:46 pm »
For many DACs, it would be beneficial to have a built in ratings system to establish reliable reputation.  I propose that share transfer transactions allow the inclusion of additional transaction fee to purchase storage space in the blockchain exclusively reserved for a review of the receiver's performance by the sender.

Basically in addition to the standard transaction signatures by the sending addresses, an additional signature could be added from a DPOS registered name, attaching the transaction to that pseudonym ID and claiming the right to leave a review transaction signed by the chain registered ID after the business was concluded.

The reviews would have a different standard format specific to the needs of each chain's business model, and would persist in the chain tied to the reviewed ID.

Along with providing an indelible rating system, which increases the value of the platform, this would provide incentive for additional transaction fees, increasing dividends to shareholders.  Service providers would be motivated to provide discounts to those willing to review in order to build their reputations, and reviewers would not want to sacrifice their own reputations by providing fake reviews, or by failing to review after opting for review space in a payment.

I'd like to hear thoughts on both the economic model and the plausibility of implementing this with DPOS.  The biggest issue I see is finding a price for permanent blockchain storage space.

DAC PLAY / BitShares Lotto

[Regarding BitShares Bingo vs BitShares Lotto]

They are separate dacs, lotto is simpler and will come first

For ease of implementation and competition, I'm guessing BitShares Lotto is basically decentralized satoshidice except the only house edge is the transaction fees?

Has anyone here used this?  It seems like it might be a safer alternative to Paypal for trades.

BitShares PTS / Guide to claiming Protoshare investment in new DACs
« on: December 24, 2013, 04:37:07 pm »
1.  Open your Protoshares wallet and open the debug window from the help menu.

2.  Switch from the information tab of the debug window to the console tab.

3.  Type:
     walletpassphrase YourPasswordHere 600

4. Type:
     dumpprivkey YourPTSAddress

5. Note the string of characters output after the last command.  This is your wallet key.  Guard it with your life.

6. Open the new DAC wallet and go to the console tab of the debug window as you did with the PTS wallet.

7. If your new DAC wallet is already locked, type:
     walletpassphrase YourPasswordHere 600

8. Copy your PTS wallet key from the PTS wallet window, and in the new DAC console, type:
     importprivkey YourPTSWalletKeyHere

9. Done.  If your new balance does not show up immediately, you can close and restart the new DAC wallet to rescan and find your balance.

Keyhotee / Keyhotee Launch Parties
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:56:20 pm »
As a communication system, probability of success scales with the size and interconnectedness of the early user base.  I've already been working on getting my friends and family interested in getting involved early, but I'm wondering if others are planning any Keyhotee launch parties for New Year's, or what other ideas people have for getting it viral from the start.
