General Discussion / Re: Why I learned to Stop Worrying and Love Sparkle

Anything that honors AGS/PTS/BTS will always have my support and I will never dump.
Anyhting that honors DOGE,BTC etc no matter how promising it is ...no support sorry..
 +5% to sparkles

That's cult mentality. If someone respects the social consensus, no need of critical thinking anymore ? Even if it's someone that never delivers anything, full support accorded ?

I hold BitShares because it's the best product out there, and because I believe that mining is absurd. And BitShares is slowly abandoning the argument "mining is absurd" because now it offends sparklers. That's a big shot in our foot.

No, I am not abandoning the idea that mining is absurd.   It is clearly absurd!

I'm offended.  If that is your attitude then I am out of here.

Just Kidding.

POW is an untapped market that someone needs to serve.   For those who view POS as a dead end, guaranteed to fail they will like Sparkle.   The two camps don't have to change their opinion, just agree to disagree and focus on the end result.

Sorry if it's already been discussed, I skimmed through the thread and couldn't find an answer to two questions:

1. What's the algorithm used in Sparkle's POW? I get that block header hashes are sha512, but what's the algo? is it Momentum like PTS?

2. What about difficulty re-target time? How often does that happen?

Thanks.

SHA512 is the hash algorithm.   Yes, it could be optimized for ASIC but CPU can be optimized for bot nets.   Therefore SHA512 is a good GPU compromise.

Difficulty is retargeted continuously.

Great show of support.  It is very much appreciated.

Hi Sparkles,

Can Sha 512 be merged mined with Bitcoin?  Have you put much thought into preventing a 51% attack early on in the experiment?

No it cannot.

Since there is interest I will keep it open.

Sorry to scare every one.

I just posted an announcement thread on BitcoinTalk.   Show it some love and help support your Sister chain.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=874406.0

Has a snapshot date been announced yet?

If so, it should probably be added to the OP here and on the BitcoinTalk thread.

*Edit - If you haven't chosen a date yet - may I suggest New Years (seems a good time for "sparkles")  ;)

I am also curious when the planned share drop date is. New Years seems like a great idea!

Does anyone know how many Sparks you get per BTS? I would assume that it is low since there will only be 100 million sparks, I think?

I want this out far faster than that.

Due to lack of interest I am closing this bounty.   Revised logos can be made by the workers within Sparkle after it launches.

Count me in, I would like a BitShares jacket!

General Discussion / First Test Net Release

No seed nodes right now, so you will have to manually add nodes once someone has a public IP/port.

General Discussion / [ANN][SPK] Sparkle - BitcoinTalk Announcement Thread

Give it some love and show your support as BTS holders benefit from any publicity produced by Sparkle and have a stake in the system.

Invictus didn't dilute to raise funds, they diluted to merge competition and focus on a single product.

Delegates are now elected with potential for dilution of up to ~6% of the market cap per year.  Unless the market cap of BTS were to fall BTS should have a development budget of $2.5 million per year if all 100 delegates were paid delegates.

There are never any rollbacks with BTS, but there are certainly still many hard forks as BTS is under active development.

I certainly hope they make it nicer, but if they don't then I will with Sparkle.

General Discussion / Re: ripple rally
« on: November 26, 2014, 05:47:22 pm »
Ripple is a great project but I'd like to understand better why Ripple currency (XRP) is needed there. As I see, the gateways use other existing currencies, either fiat (USD, EUR, etc) or crypto (BTC), and XRP is needed only if you want trade an exotic pair for which a market doesn't exist. Other than that, holding XRP gives no interest or dividends and it's not likely that XRP will be accepted by merchants even if the Ripple project succeeds. Am I missing something?

XRP is likely to become a currency like Bitcoin and has value for that purpose.   It is the only asset in the ripple system that isn't an IOU and thus has value.

I would like to show a preview of the Sparkle website:

http://thetruesparkles.wix.com/sparkle

Binaries for the test network will be released later today, but I need someone who is willing to run a seed node for me.

+5% I would prefer the name to be Spark personally, it is much better.

Sparks are the unit, Sparkle is the system.  It keeps things separate vs all of the confusion of Bitcoin vs BTC.   BitShare vs BitShares vs bitshare vs bitshares vs BTS.

I don't want to overload the name.
