General Discussion / Re: ripple-style IOU gateway functionality!

Wouldnt the on off ramps be considered money transmitters and thus be liable to regulations? They can only be trusted if they open a registered company and put their neck on the line ofcourse making profit for the ramp as a business. I wouldnt trust a community member by his her word we seem that movie too many times with bitcoin early days

A fiat gateway will absolutely need to be licensed. We'll probably only see fiat gateways that are either crypto exchanges or perhaps eventually banks. BTC gateways can be anonymous so they cannot really be prosecuted. Check out the companies that are ripple gateways now, they will probably be the first we try to get on board as fiat gateways since the software they already use will be very similar to ours. Thinking about it, perhaps it will even be possible for us to make software that basically piggybacks off ripple in a way that allows us to use all their gateways to let the end user instantly convert rippleIOUs to BTS network tokens in what appears as a single step.

Ripple is not anonymous if you are dealing with any major gateway IOUs.  There is a reason Ripple is gaining traction with the banks, it allows the banks to comply with all laws and KYC.

Is this on the testchain? Can you post the url for the source? I'll see if I can setup a seed on my dev server.

Also if you haven't already give a read of the Play allocation threads. Showing a willingness to adjust your distribution share drops can get messy. Not saying don't do it...Just worth a read so you go into it eyes opened.

Thanks Riverhead!   https://github.com/sparkle5/Sparkle

If you can post an IP/PORT I add it to the default list to help people connect to the test network.

WOW big changes for less than 24h. Sparkling changes should I say. (3x faster blocktimes and 3X more dilution)

I will reserve any more comments for now cause in 48h you may have gone to 5 sec blocktimes and 240% dilution...
It seem you have solid plans, that one can comment on.

Initial feed back was that 1 minute would be too slow, so I did some research on fastest sustainable POW times and it seems Ethereum's blog has looked at all the issues and concluded that 12 seconds is the best the internet can support for propagation delay Dilution rate didn't change.
and to minimize orphans I went with 20 seconds.

Other than that I am keeping this as clean and simple as possible.

Several people have asked me to share drop on BTS.    If I can get some help from the BTS community I will consider doing a 30/30/30 drop.

How comes - 3x more blocks, same new Sparks per block? Should be some higher math, than the one thought in my middle school?

Err... you are right.  I will go hide now.

then instantly go to the bitshares DEX and trade the BTC IOU's for bitBTC, BTS, bitUSD, or whatever you want. BTS is then essentially

This sounds interesting, but I'm a touch confused because a bitBTC is already an IOU for 1 BTC, so what are these other IOUs that you're talking about?

BitBTC is a collateralized IOU backed by the block chain.
BterBTC is an un-collateralized IOU backed by the issuer.

I hope to use this gateway function to bootstrap price discovery on Sparkle by using the built in exchange.

I have just completed initial testing.  Miners and workers are now paid properly.

I am working to set up a seed node and will aim to have a working Mac OS X binary released later tonight.   I am looking for a trusted community member who would be willing and able to build a Windows binary for Sparkle.

Sparkle combines the features of BitShares with the consensus of Proof of Work and is targeted at those who don't trust anything other than proof of work.

All of the "Bitcoin 2.0" block chains are based upon proof of stake or are hobbled by Bitcoin's slow transaction times.   As a result there exists an opening in the market for a next generation system built on top of proof of work.   I recognize that in the BitShares community POW means Proof of Waste, but if you review comments from Bitcointalk and around the web there must be 10's of thousands of proof of work die-hards that are looking for a system they can trust.

Sparkle is attempting to mirror all of the benefits of BitShares while using Proof of Work for its security model.   This will give Sparkle the advantage of allowing many people to try BitShare's unique features for the first time.

Sparkle is fully honoring AGS/PTS in recognition of their support and belief in many 3rd party DACs.   BitShares will not be honored because of their view of everything else as competition.

I have been refining the specs a bit since my first post.

0) Spark (SPK) is the base currency
1) 100 million initial allocation among AGS/PTS
2) 20 second average block times
3) 100 Sparks per block will be created, 50% paid to miner and 50% divided among elected workers.
4) About ~160 million sparks will be created the first year representing 60% of the total supply, After 2 years 75% of the supply, After 3 years 82%

In this thread I hope to have a fresh start where I am looking for those who would like to help with the project and to provide support.  Right now I am looking for someone to host a seed node and help with graphics.

I would like permission to keep this single thread in general discussion until the DAC has some momentum of its own.

I have basic block production working via mining.

This afternoon I will update the code to pay the miners and workers.

Once that is done I will be looking for people willing to host seed nodes in exchange for a worker position.

Testnet can go live shortly thereafter and launch will occur shortly after BTS releases their next version and I have time to migrate all of their latest features and bug fixes.

May I please keep a single thread in the Main Discussion part of the forum.   Moving it here will have it mostly ignored and isn't really supporting it.

101
I have managed to pull out all of the DPOS block production and to run tests without any proof of work on the block production.

Tomorrow I hope to have a test network up and running that is powered by POW.

102
DPOS is the blood, sweat, toil, and tears that forged bitshares. "Introduce?" No, I wont let myself be introduced.. I won't shake your hand, I won't look you in the eye... if this was the inquisition, you'd be burned at the stake.

Wow... DPOS is just as much a religion as POW.

He's just getting the warm bitshares welcome

He's posting as a newbie, signed up to the forum first time today. That is deceitful, and does not allow us to evaluate his previous postings for intentions, helpfulness, philosophical leanings, etc.

And without first bouncing his ideas off of the community, he is "looking for help creating the logo and a web page for Sparkle" on the main Discussion page of the Bitsharestalk forum at a time when we are attempting to concentrate community members efforts and attention on BTS marketing.

There is a sub Board called:      Third Party DACs

Not everyone who posts on the Bitsharestalk.org forum has the best for the BitShares community as his motivation.

You assume I have posted here before without any evidence that I am anything more than a lurker.

I have a large stake in BTS and noticed there was a market segment that wasn't being met and that BTS could not meet so I thought I would launch a product to fill the void and allow AGS/PTS holders to capture what ever value the market places on a POW version of BTS.

If POW is doomed to fail then this project is no threat to BTS.  I happen to think that POW is here for a while and that a POW version of BTS properly promoted to the mining faithful will gain a relatively high market cap.

104

Have you thought this through?   POW off pure transaction fees means not many miners = security issue.

Miners gets 50 Sparks per block which equals 100% of the maximum worker pay.  Miners also get all transaction fees to encourage them to include transactions.

105
Wait, what?

50 miners elected by the sparkles + 50 workers?

Can you provide more info about this delegated mining?

Mining is't delegated unless mining pools are used.  This is a pure Proof of Work coin.   Delegates don't produce blocks, only miners produce blocks.  They get paid to do work and broadcast feeds.
