General Discussion / Re: Best strategy for PTS/BTC
« on: February 22, 2014, 12:45:34 pm »
If you donate, you get AGS - angelshares - and these will translate into BTS-X but not the other future Invictus DACs  In some ways, holding PTS is more conservative option, as you still keep it after, but... there is not so much information about the future DAC releases as yet, and PTS will likely dip after 28th Feb. Also, now, people realise the better ratio with AGS. My guess is that future successful independent DACs will honor the social consensus, as this will be a snappy way to gain support of this rapidly growing community, and community support is critical, right? Time will tell how easy it will be to build a DAC, but you can guess that people will be working on ones that self replicate in time. This gives a hint as to how many DACs might appear. Anyway, I decided a while ago that the best option was to hold PTS but also donate in BTC, ie just do both. Now you have to weigh up what others have donated more carefully than ever: - see the charts http://www1.agsexplorer.com/

Yes, you keep the Bitshares-PTS (ie protoshares), these have potential future value with other DACs.

AGS has, I think, helped the value of PTS very positively, as AGS are being issued in addition, plus you can get AGS with PTS so this has increased the scarcity of PTS. PTS holders havent lost anything percentage wise as I understand it, its just Invictus have launched the AGS fundraising system as an alternative way to acquire bitshares. Just take a look at what has been raised, and you will see the additional confidence in the market now, especially over the last few days.

BitShares PTS / Re: BitShares-PTS 1.0 Release (2.18.2014)

Do current users of the older Protoshares QT wallet need to update to this newer wallet before the end of the month to gain access to Bitshares? I tried to update but the new client is unstable for me.

No, you can keep using ProtoShares QT, BitShares-PTS it's an only new version of ProtoShares client.
Which problems do you have with BitShares-PTS? Crashes, not sync?
I get this issue, it then closes the wallet. Any suggestions?

I will check it and reply you here.

I test BitShares-PTS in Windows 8 x64, its works without any problems.
Looks like you familiar with wallet files and to save time, move/copy ProtoShares files to BitShares-PTS folder. Please try to delete these files and sync wallet from scratch. After this everything should work fine.
Please don't forget to backup wallet.dat file before any changes!!!

Let's us know about results.
OK, I deleted the folders in the >Roaming>Bitshares-PTS folders (i.e. those named database, chainstate, blocks), and then it loads just fine. Thanks, seems just fine now, fully synced.

HELP!

I replaced the bitshares-pts app on my mac, and I lost EVERYTHING.

please help. my address changed I lost 15.8 PTS. Help me with this. the address was PrD8Prp82YU3KDysoxfZ1pvbnbmERR6y1w
and it changed to
Pw9RDLAjSHEDvYCuZUg92KaWS5fLUMvcde

what can I do????? I'm panicking right now

EDIT: Okay, so for whatever reason, the protoshare wallet app reappeared after I had replaced it with my bitshare wallet app. Even though I could no longer find the app data folder for protoshare in the hidden folder for my library, from the protoshare app, I was able to make a backup of my wallet and load it into the Bitshare wallet.

Don't scare me like that next time.  :D If you want serious investors in the long-term future, you will have to keep the technology idiot friendly.

I have 500PTS and 300AGS and I'm just petrified to do anything right now.  I'm not technically savvy and I'm not changing wallets until someone comes up with step by step instructions for dummies.   Will I be ok for the 28th if I just keep using the old PTS wallet?

I tried on 2 PCs, Win 8. I would like to get it to work; on one PC it crashed on opening, on restart it refuses to sync. I will get the exact messages it throws up a bit later, just away from that PC till a bit later on.

General Discussion / Apple and blockchain.info

Apple have banned the Blockchain app on iPhone, without giving a clear reason so far.
http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-blockchain-appstore-2014-2
I wonder if they have heard about all the allied services relating to bitcoin that are about to appear...
Might affect their appstore model perhaps. Was anyone planning a Bitshares app?!

These guides should add at the end what happens next after 'ordering' bitshares, i.e. the planned process of later the Bitshares wallet importing stuff. People may expect to get some sort of confirmation.

General Discussion / Re: Estimated Price of 1 Bitshare
« on: February 04, 2014, 11:08:03 am »
My hope and expectation is for each Bitshare to be worth about $200 on launch
It's hard to judge the opening value. I've looked at the current price of Mastercoin and the total coin amount, from that you might easily estimate an approx price if the two were equivalent - but clearly they are not. My understanding is that Bitshares will be released with the immediate added DAC functions; how much people are aware of and appreciate the added benefits will add to the price. The timing of announcements about future DACs from III will be worth paying attention to, as if they announce more of these prior to Bitshares X release this might likely affect Bitshares PTS, with a flurry of accumulation likely to occur in the coming weeks. Its quite a smart system, as this could very positively influence the opening Bitshares X value.

*[…]  Is anyone going mostly all in with angel shares?

Ask that guy who donates 10 BTC nearly every day  :)

How do you know this?  Is this information visible someplace publicly?
I'd like to put a lot more into Bitshares, but not sure the best way to do it.
Here's a link to the daily donation listings: http://www1.agsexplorer.com/

Why 5%? In differing financial climates, would there be a need to alter this rate? For example, if the prevailing growth rate is 10% year on year as in some countries, then 5% might seem low.
