If a customer pays in BTC and then gets a refund after their money was held in escrow as BitUSD, they could get less BTC back than they expect. How would this problem be resolved?

Wouldn't it be so much easier if our dreams came true and everyone just used BitAssets? :)

It's not the value of BTC that matters to the vendor, it's the price in equivalent USD. If someone paid 300 dollars and I received less BTC but still at 300, it's a benefit.

"Thank you Empirical. Finally a sane answer."

I don't know if implying all other responses are insane is the best way to gather support. When I see a working product, I will make a decision if it's worth investing any money. With a lightweight client already in development, I just don't see the immediate value at $130,000. I have no issue with anyone making a proposal, best of luck.

I apologize for the newbie question, I never dealt with snapshots in the wallet.  Is it possibly to export keys from BTER that would allow snapshots to be imported into the wallet?  I kept 95% of my coins off the exchange but did have slightly larger snapshots.

I can't believe how many people there are supporting rollbacks (even if it's targeted rollbacks to a small set of transactions) in this thread. It completely undermines the blockchain.

No one could trust that their transfers for goods/services would be final.

If we were to have such a policy, how would we decide which balances were the stolen ones? How would an innocent person accepting funds from those balances for legitimate trade of goods/services know that those balances were tainted before accepting them? Or do we just accept that those people (who didn't take an extra risk by trading on a centralized exchange) are going to lose for the benefit of bailing out the unfortunate victims who knowingly took the risk to trade on a centralized exchange?

Also, who is the authority that decides/confirms which balances were stolen, the stakeholders? If so, what quorum is necessary? Even if it is 75%, you risk having the other 25% dump the stake after the hard fork because of such an extreme change in policy, crashing the price. So then maybe a 95% quorum is necessary. But that is a ridiculously high percentage that is unrealistic to ever reach. Especially considering that the people most likely to vote for the hard fork are the people who lost their money (and therefore don't have the funds to vote with).

No rollbacks! The solution is to reduce our dependence on centralized exchanges.

Of course no rollbacks. The minute that happened you might as well stick a fork in the project.

I worry about snapshots.

Working on a research project on sidechains - what are people's thoughts on the future of bitshares in the event that sidechains are implemented into the bitcoin protocol? Will bitshares adapt as a sidechain? Will it exist independently? What would it look like if bitshares did decide to adapt into a sidechain?

An interesting sidechain discussion popped up tonight.

Priority 1

1)   Light Weight Client
2)   Web Wallet
3)     BTS wallet improvement

- I'd include Hedgewallet and the Mobile wallet in this list
    * It's a shame core development wasn't involved with this earlier as a reason to use BitUSD. We could have used Bitcoin's network effect to help show an immediate use for BitUSD.
- Tool tips
- A walkthrough button in the client explaining how to use each option with arrows and screenshots
- Link to video tutorials
- Recommend putting the delegate voting information in advanced until it is much easier to understand

Priority 2

12)   Marketing

Marketing is doing fine building infrastructure and building processes.  Once the clients are ready, this give marketing exactly what they need to start pushing the BitShares message.  If you look at the feedback we're receiving in BCT, even those that are in crypto have a real hard time understanding BitShares. An optimized wallet sets them on the right path.

13)   Widespread media coverage

If Nullstreet can pull off the coordination of Hedgewallet (moving between Bitcoin and BitAssets in 1 wallet), we can push it to every Bitcoin friendly publication.  We immediately tap into their large network. We provide a strong funnel to use BitUSD which will help us with merchant/user option down the road.

5)    Easy to use multi-sig for cold storage

The only way we convert the large Bitcoin holders is to make sure they feel safe with cold storage.

Priority 3

7)       User-Issued Asset (UIA) features

8)   Lots of quality documentation (ie: BM's blog)

9)   Whitepapers (Same as 3?)

- UIA features give marketing a second push
- Documentation will help us attract additional development help
- Integration documents for exchanges and other services make that conversation much easier for our business development delegates

Priority 4

17)   Getting listed on one of the top exchanges (BTCChina, OKCoin, Bitfinex or Bitstamp)

18)   Getting bitUSD accepted on one of the top crypto marketplaces

19)   Workable debit card for bitUSD

20)   merchant adoption

15)   Gateways

16)   Easy fiat onramps from USD into both BTS and bitUSD  (same as 5?)

- Obviously many of these options are already being investigated one way or another
- By time the first 3 priorities are complete, Priority 4 should be a natural progression

Priority 5

- Prediction markets, bond market, margin etc

Currently

- In the last weekly update, BM mentioned gateway infrastructure development is already active
- I know there was talk of a press kit direction on Nullstreet, need to get an update if that's still an active project
- I've been sending Gentso contacts, he's been actively going after payment processors, debit cards, gateways etc.  That won't happen overnight.
- Bridges are currently deployed, I saw a post about a gateway being worked on in the BitShares community.
- Jsidhu is working on different ecommerce plugins
- Video production is being outlined on Nullstreet

I've read reports of sluggish behavior, modern pc requirements and the blockchain taking hours to download.  I would recommend some type of warning during the installation that would cover the following points:

- The full version of the client is recommended for (the target such as exchanges, delegates etc)
- The minimum requirements for the full experience are (ram, cpu etc)
- The first time downloading the blockchain may take ...   For a more responsive experience, please install the (point to the download page for lightweight and web clients)

Setting the expectation will save us pain down the road. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I assume PeerTracks is going to use a custom moonstone wallet to handle all of the users funds. This is slightly off topic but have you made any progress on how users will go from their Credit Card to BitAssets (NoteAssets?) on the PeerTracks system? Is the music team / bitsapphire working on any on ramps or relying on those to be built?

PeerTracks using a custom version of our wallet is the plan, yes.

Unfortunately I can't disclose anything about PeerTracks (NDAs), however Cob should be able to do a forum or mumble session very soon. March is when everything will be unveiled.

1  Has PeerTracks and Play paid for any of the development?
2. Is there any plans to integrate some type of BTC wallet or projects like MetaExchange?
3. I'm in full support of projects that add to the ecosystem to go after funding, however the idea of hard coded delegates seems like a slippery slope.

Who knows, the market will figure it out. We can't be surprised that some larger holders are looking to liquidate with our huge delays. It's always a good time to buy until we hit a new low.
I'm holding. With the lightweight and hedge wallet being developed, I'm counting on big gains in the next 6 months.

The community, ie. your network effect, is being completely ignored.
What a way to loose your good will which you paid 50% of the share supply for! I am sure you did not pay 50% share supply for a mailing list. Because now thats all you will have.

The community was also responsible for the toolkit used to bootstrap bitsharesMusic. You paid 20% of your share supply for the use of the toolkit.

Don't worry Mr Jeans, I can't say much, but I will say that competition to MUSIC is not too far off and it seems it is based in a different philosophy with respect to a number of things, but community involvement is one of them.

I support Cob's efforts.  He is doing what he thinks is best.  However, I too am philosophically inclined to support more grass roots initiatives that reach out to our community.  BitShares is going to be one heck of an awesome place to be a foundational member in the next couple years...

I don't have a suggested change, just a general comment. The only area that causes me major grief is the delegate voting section. I know there's guides in the forum, for a new user, it's still too confusing.
