General Discussion / Re: Fake Internet Plan
« on: June 01, 2015, 06:23:34 pm »
My opinions only, I have no facts to back this up. My first impressions only are stated below.

Sounds like it's going to be a commercialized internet that is free to browse, with free bandwidth, even possibly free devices to access it too, paid for by the stakeholders who advertise on it, and own parts of it.

They're creating a new bar and setting it high, and then want only the insiders to profit from it in the end.

So when the smoke clears they probably think:

1) We'll own all of the firmware and software on internet.org devices

2) People (2/3 of the non-connected world) will walk around with our devices, basically creating our own meshnet for connectivity

3) Since we own all the intellectual rights of this new meshnet, we can advertise on it for free. We can rent out our customer base (and their eyeballs) for free for advertising and marketing purposes

4) Once we get massive adoption rates since there is ZERO cost to entry for any person in a 3rd world country to get connected, we'll soon be in control of the largest internet.org internet anywhere.

5) In the end, govt gets what they want because now they have a centralized body who controls the switches. They can ask internet.org turn on and turn off who they want, when they want.

6) We (zuckerberg team) get we want. We'll all be rich beyond belief if this works.  Bill Gates will lick our boots.

7) and the world's population will think they're getting what they want. Free internet, and free devices? What more could we want?  I don't need privacy when I'm a sheep herder a 3rd world country.

8) In 5 to 10 years time, don't forget an evil laugh, and references to "Mini Me" and "Dr. Evil"

General Discussion / Re: Merchant Adoption Issues

Where do we stand on merchant adoption

Interesting you said "where do we stand".  That's exactly the right attitude. I hope you're planning to get involved and volunteer some of your time to help grow your investment.

Right now to many people are taking a laid back approach by buying BTS and then sitting and waiting for everybody else to run around doing the work.

It seems like drumming up end user demand for bitassets would be one of the best support paths for BTS

I agree. What do you suggest should be done next?  What are you willing to do next?

I'd like to see an even lower cost solution to start off with, where..

John Doe sits at a flea market with some bitShares signage and uses his Android phone to buy and sell Bitshares.

But the interface is so easy to use for both the customer as well as the seller, it makes it easy to do the transaction.

This way when John's done, and closes shop. All he has to do is travel to the nearest Bitcoin ATM or Bitshares ATM to feed that money back in, so he has more crypto on hand to replenish his Bitshares for the following sales day.

This way you don't need to invest in a machine to be "self serve" for people to obtain Bitshares.  This would be more of a full serve situation.

Also imagine tipping a Pizza delivery driver.  University student in his early 20's shows up.  You offer him $5 tip in cash, or $10 in Bitshares. He knows what Bitshares is, and happily chooses that instead.

I know, everybody is going to say BitUSD not Bitshares.  Ok, I still haven't bought any BitUSD until v1.0 comes out, so I still think in terms of BTS :P

When the populace is overrun by sheep that have been beat down their entire lives, they get excited when they see others persecution and support it wholeheartedly. Sad.

This is why people laugh hysterically when a cop pulls over a speeder in  front of them. Baha haha he deserved it! I hope the cop gets him good! They cheer.

Little did they know they speeder had his dying 9 year old daughter in the backseat with her mother holding her, while they were on the way to the hospital. Yes, the daughter just got hit while he was changing a tire at the side of the road and there was no time to wait for an ambulance.

Yeah, you never know what you're maniacally laughing at when you see the persecution of somebody else.

What I think it amounts to is relief in the form of laughter, like, "finally! some else has their day ruined instead of just me"

We all have sick habits that need to be corrected.

Decentralized DNS must allow a registered host to "Network Hop" and update the blockchain continually.

Currently authoritative DNS for a domain typically exists for 259200 seconds (3 days)

I don't know what design will happen for decentralized DNS, but I should be able to be www.somesite.php = 192.168.1.1 in the morning, and then I can be www.somesite.php=192.168.2.2 a few hours later.

If you're going to use authoritative dns servers (like ns.somesite.php and ns2.somesite.php, those must be able to be changed hourly (or by the minute) too)

Finally, the "history" of what IP's a p2p site or its authoritative dns was a few weeks ago, should be irrelevant, so a new user downloading the chain doesn't need to know where the site was in the past. It only needs to know the latest information about where the site is "right now"

You will find that IP changes and network hopping will be common once p2p goes live.

By the way ever see the Leonardo DiCaprio movie "Catch me if you can?"   - We all know who will be filling the same role of Tom Hanks in that film, in a p2p DNS environment.

Why end of September?

In crypto, things change by the day and week. To give a fair shake to bitshares, BM was in the local paper for raising $30 Million dollars worth towards I3 ( I don't have a copy of the article, but it happened)

Major announcements "all throughout the summer" is something that Stan has said

So it sounds completely reasonable for BTS rush in price to taper off and still be stable to happen at the end of September 2015

Until then, it's buy and hold time (in my opinion). I am happily buying knowing that the end of September 2015 I'll be smiling vs what I buy it now...

Until we stop measuring bts as a ratio of btc we are not winning.

Sent from my Timex Sinclair

That's a cryptic comment.  BTS could be measured as a ratio of USD, of Apples, Bananas, or anything else worth something.

85
I'm getting tired of the spam subject "Why I am afraid that the price of BTS is rising" which looks horrible in the "most recent posts" summary of the forum.  None of us should be afraid of a rising BTS price. That's what most of us want to see isn't it?

It is to be expected (in my opinion) that Bitshares will rise.  Surely there are whales that will want to make money on the way up.  But over all, it should continue to increase over the next few months.  But the super spikes are just bait traps, watch for those.

I'd be interested to know if anyone can predict what they think BTS might be by the end of September 2015

As I write this, BTS currently has buy orders at 0.00002300  but hit an all time high of around 0.00002700 BTC in the last 24 hours.

If you're not an experienced trader, I don't think this is the time to try and buy/sell just to try and time the market.  If you believe in Bitshares, I think it might be a good idea to buy as much as you want to keep until September and avoid the traps that whale traders are going to set for you over the coming months.

These are just my opinons, I'm not an expert, but I've seen this type of trading action before.

Comments?

General Discussion / Re: Staff Meeting Notes - Until Further Notice
« on: May 21, 2015, 01:01:36 am »
I've spent the past two days getting spun back up on everything.  Whew!

Make sure you're aware that in your absence that Poloniex now demands identification on different levels for their centralized exchange. If you don't provide the name of your person and country of origin, you can't withdraw any coins from them.

The short story is that over a dozen well-known BitShares Personalities are totally consumed right now getting ready for what we have planned for you this summer.  Unfortunately, that topic is restricted on a need-to-know basis at this time and I can't write about it.

Slight hints without any details or promises shows us a heartbeat at least. That part is always important.

I could report that I'm very excited about what I learned, but that would be dismissed as "Kool Aid."
I could post a statement that I have nothing to report, but that would be considered "infuriating".
I could not post anything at all but that would be dissed as "not too consistent on follow-through".

That's just people articulating their frustrations because it makes them feel better to vent.  Anyway....

You should probably not expect any more staff reports from me until after June 8th.

That's good. At least it gives us an approximate date to check out the forums over that period.

We're kind of cojones-to-the-wall right now.

Great!

I hate to say this, but if this NDAA, chicago blcak torture sites, NSA spying, TPP...and now paypal stuff doesn't open people's eyes, nothing will.

TPP is the Trans-Pacific Partership I'm assuming.

People are only motivated when they get effected directly.  Very few people look at the future and make preparations now.  Most people are engineered to only worry about today and let tomorrow handle itself.

Here's an example, why do we call them "Credit Cards" ?   They should be called "Debt Cards"  (not debit, but debt)

Everytime you use one, you're basically creating debt for yourself, even if you do pay it off later.

88
It gives the wrong impression to those listening who are new to cryptocurrency. Some of the more skeptical people think cryptocurrency is nothing but a scam and we're all scammers in some giant online ponzi scheme. Just sayin'.

Yes, I can see how your kool-aid image helps show the integrity that cryptocurrency deserves too.  Just sayin'

Paypal is making changes to its user agreement effect July 1st, 2015.  They explicitly state:

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/upcoming-policies-full

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE AMENDED USER AGREEMENT, PRIVACY POLICY OR ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY, YOU MAY CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT BEFORE JULY 1, 2015 AND YOU WILL NOT BE BOUND BY THE AMENDED TERMS.

Hmmm... A little foreshadowing there on what lots of user's response might be??

Some highlights:

Oh.. there is lots of neat hidden gems in their upcoming policy change document.  It appears the world is Paypal's oyster.

If you confront Paypal about it, they'll probably brush it off, saying "oh, well the third parties we're talking about is eBay".

Really? THEN SAY eBAY IN YOUR DOCUMENT.  Why put in "3rd parties" which means any other person or organization on earth too?

I wish I had the image of Daniel Larimer in his local paper, but it said something to the effect that local resident raises $30 million worth of venture capital for Inviticus (I3) Corporation for new venture BitsharesX in 45 days.

I can't find the newspaper image or link, but what I can find is this:

https://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/the-evolution-of-protoshares

Whether it is $30 millon, or $25 million, or even $15 million, it's a significant amount of cash. Any pump and dump coin would have been long gone by now.

...and I'm going to make a statement that perhaps might annoy Stan, and yet make him proud at the same time.

Daniel Larimer is young enough to not to have his morals tainted by money. He truly wants to build something and produce and leave  behind what he's promised and commissioned to do in his legacy.

So $30 million market cap or not, Daniel has the intelligence, cooperation, and support to really build BitShares into a real product.

This is more than karma and money. It's about showing the world what you can do, and I have total faith that Daniel Larimer (aka Bytemaster) can pull the team together.

He's already said they're looking towards 1st week of June for an announce. Anytime in June would make me happy. :)
