General Discussion / Re: why price BTS drop so much ,what is wrong
« on: January 26, 2015, 10:47:26 pm »
Because bitshares is new the bid/ask pools at any moment are rather fixed/illiquid. So when then the price of interface currencies like BTC or USD move suddenly like BTC from 230 to 315 suddenly less BTC is required to buy the same amount of BTS and so the bid side weakens.

If significant new interface currency is allocated into the bitshares bid/ask pools because of bright future and good news then that should readjust the BTS price as the bid side gets more liquidity again. So current prices could represent a good discount. Otherwise if the market doesn't see a good future for bitshares then the BTS price will eventually fade toward zero.

Yeah. That is what I am doing. But a direct exchange has many of the advantages of having one orderbook that we talk about for bit assets and also there is extra administration required to break larger orders up into many smaller ones. Plus the counter party risk which can last for a few days or weeks depending on how your orders get executed. All of these together add up to a lot of extra consideration and therefore reduced liquidity for bitshares.

Further on the marketing side telling the bitcoin world that the bitshares wallet is also a bitcoin wallet which allows them to lock their bitcoin into bitUSD or bitGOLD via a blockchain technology, without ever being exposed to counterparty risk. Wow! I don't believe there is a more important feature for bitshares atm.

Technical Support / Re: How to update in Linux?
« on: January 26, 2015, 12:24:42 pm »
I have been compiling with the exact commands in the order as you've listed them.
But I wasn't executing those sudo commands after compiling.
Now I just did that and v0.5.3 qt GUI client started!

Thanks everyone!!  :D

General Discussion / BTS price falling ... I would buy more if .....
« on: January 26, 2015, 09:17:38 am »
I would buy a lot more BTS if I could exchange directly from my bitcoin cold wallet into my bitshares cold wallet without being exposed to counter party risk. i.e. no central exchanges or gateways. Thanks to DPOS bitshares is capable of doing this. One way is that delegates can auto-escrow the market since blockchains are public its just like a "price feed":

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=13274.0

Perhaps there are better ways of achieving the same objective but whatever way it happens this capability would have a huge impact on liquidity and price of bitshares.

I really appreciate your help. I still don't understand what I need to do to make the update work. When I type
git checkout bts/0.5.3

the output is:
M   libraries/fc
M   programs/qt_wallet
M   programs/web_wallet
Previous HEAD position was 1100744... Update checkpoints
HEAD is now at 8c908f8... Handle fix

Then I run BitShares command line yet the qt client splash screen still says v0.4.27.2-1.

Code: [Select]
cd <path-to-bitshares>
git checkout bts/0.5.3
git pull

I figured after running the checkout I should try git pull but this error:

You are not currently on a branch. Please specify which
branch you want to merge with. See git-pull(1) for details.

    git pull <remote> <branch>

Code: [Select]
cd <path-to-bitshares>
git pull
git checkout v0.5.0     #error: pathspec 'v0.5.0' did not match any file(s) known to git.
git submodule update
make
make forcebuildweb
make BitShares

I've tried all the above commands they all worked except the checkout.
Now when I run the qt client with BitShares command there is not change to the version number appearing on the splash screen its still is v0.4.27.2-1. And the client sync is now behind by over 3 days.

Any ideas??

General Discussion / Re: Up to 27 100% delegates. Really?
« on: January 24, 2015, 11:58:05 pm »
BTW, I'd recommend every delegate to fill in some data into the public json data. Some weeks ago we came up with a consensus about the protocol:

http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Delegate/PublicData

Example script to do so:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xeroc/pytshares/master/setPublicData.py   ### use with caution as the payrate is part of it!

Shouldn't this be a required part of the process rather than being optional?

General Discussion / Re: What's actually going on?
« on: January 22, 2015, 11:04:05 am »
Since bitshares constantly needs to adapt to expand and improve perhaps software features specifically targeting delegate reviews and analysis would answer the question permanently for everyone. Imagine the client allows users to view the delegates page and re-sort and filter the list by project name so you see which delegates are working on the same kind of projects. Under each project is a list of links to milestones and funding goals. These are connected to crypto-assurance contracts and you can click any project and see how much funds have been raised and what is needed. Perhaps delegates have links to their special offers. A chart of each delegates voting history over time is a useful metric to make available. We can connect these forums via direct links in the client where all the specifics on each row could be discussed. The other side of the coin is a listing of bounties managed via assurance contracts and escrow access. All of the criticals for newbies are plugged into the client which is the transparent center in our decentralized network, maaaaaaan. Many of these features are already being worked into the mix. Once these tools become available even newbies will be up to date and plugged into participating with whats happening.

General Discussion / Re: Another fun challenge to political views
« on: January 22, 2015, 04:47:01 am »
Wow so much unoriginal hogwash.
+5%

What the author defines as 'externalities' being intimately linked to the sale of property are actually completely unrelated separate incidents of property damage. Under his definition anything you sell makes you liable for the future actions of the new owner and anything you buy makes you liable for the past actions of the supplier. The whole reason libertarians separate the two is that individuals can only be responsible for their own actions and NOT the actions of other people who are, if defined as being free, outside of their control.

The sheer stupidity is tiring and the violence hurts but kudos to all libertarians out there who stand squarely to speak their peaceful reasoning toward the apparently never ending tsunami of ridiculous contradictions in support of aggression.

I'm sure the author is well intentioned so the lesson perhaps that needs to be taught is that the justice system isn't really functioning as it should. Taking action in court against people who damage property is too expensive and complex. The justice system needs simplification and more open access. That's the crux of these kind of confusions.

Technical Support / V 0.5.0 cold wallet instructions
« on: January 21, 2015, 10:04:22 pm »
Version 0.5.0 is meant to include cold wallet features. Can someone provide instructions on how to use those features?

1. Create watching only wallet
2. Create unsigned tx in watching only wallet
3. Load unsigned tx in cold wallet
4. Sign unsigned tx in cold wallet
5. Broadcast signed tx in watching only wallet

?
