General Discussion / It's a great day to buy some BTS with your BTC
« on: April 06, 2015, 11:11:40 am »
BTC is up and BTS is down.
Moonstone (based on BTS) is about to launch tomorrow so if you can buy up some more BTS, today is the day to do it!

Ok, so my kenCode.de webhosting is about to expire in a couple weeks.
They want $70 from me to renew for one year (node.js/mongodb).
I'd rather buy $70 worth of BitShares.

So, I created an "about me" style page on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:KenCode).
Right after I saved it, it got "speedy deleted":
This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference.
22:04, 4 April 2015 Peridon (talk | contribs) deleted page User:KenCode (U5: Blatant misuse of Wikipedia as a web host)

As you guys know, Robrigo and I have been working like crazy on the BitShares Wikipedia draft page.
My username is tied to my work, so I wanted people to know a little bit about me via my user page.
So much for that idea.

Anybody know of a way where I can host my page (all i need is one page, but nodejs/express would be nice too) for free?
1. Github.io?
2. Google sites?
3. Use a beaglebone black or raspi?

Decentralized would sure be nice too, but I doubt there's any decentralized webhosts out there yet.
Advice?? Please and thanx :)

I was recently introduced to Agorism and found that it parallels a lot of my anarcho* ideals and drive for peace and love.

Anarchast did a show yesterday on this and so much of what they were saying spoke the BitShares philosophy to me......
If you have a few minutes, you might enjoy this one:

Those of you who know me (ken@bitshares-munich.de), know how passionate I am about saving the Internet.

Our wallets (wallet.bitshares.org, moonstone, bitsharesblocks, metaexchange, etc) are at stake now, not just the web itself.
Let's save ourselves first, then begin work on integrations with icann/iana/ietf, etc.

More ideas:
1. Make a new chrome browser extension that uses the proven BitShares Login (see below).
2. If the extension sees an address/url of "btsd:web.kencode" it will check the routable location to that "child" (website).
2b. You could even have the website owner maintain their own json file w/routing keys/vals, ie: http://kencode.de/id/kenCode.json
3. If the extension sees "btsd:kencode/approve" it will load up the local client, or the web wallet as a backup for votes.
4. If the extension sees "btsd:web.kencode/approve" you could vote for a website's popularity, great for search algos.
5. If the extension sees "btsd:chat.kencode" it would load up the user's chosen voip Dapp (like jitsi, firechat, icq, tweets, skype).
6. If the extension sees "btsd:mail.kencode/subject?'Here's my subject line'" it would load up the user's chosen email client.

Once the extension has these new abilities, then we could connect it to volunteer bridging nodes to ip4/ip6 tables. I will happily host the first few myself by purchasing a dedicated ip from my isp. I'll host my kencode website on a beaglebone black, or one of my raspi's. This way, you guys can verify routing and mapping to the "web" child account as seen in #2 and #4 above.

The technology is already here, we just need to work together to finish it up. Please vote in the Poll above! :)

Think of how newsworthy this will be when released with 1.0.

Technical Support / BitSharesBlocks.com - bitSILVER collateral crash?
« on: April 02, 2015, 03:46:01 pm »
This at first glance scared the crap out of me, but now that I look at it, it seems as if it was just an api connection issue, right?
http://bitsharesblocks.com/asset/info?asset=SILVER

On the website chart it says that on "Thursday, Mar 26, 23:33:30.482" the Collateral suddenly dropped to "Collateral 0.00 bitSILVER".

Since I hold silv, I'd like to know exactly what happened at that moment, please.
Thanx in advance,

General Discussion / A Ripple or CMC problem?
« on: April 02, 2015, 10:24:44 am »
Not sure what's going on with CMC, but maybe their api's aren't communicating?
Maybe Ripple is having trouble publishing some data now?

This will be just a one-time meeting for now, but if there is enough interest locally, then I will pay for the formal Meetup.com group whereby we meet once per month.

First & foremost, we need to figure out what days/times/location would work best for you, if you can make it to the meeting.

I'm learning more every day about BitShares. I'm doing my best to help promote it and get it built properly, future proofing, branding, PR, wiki editor, you name it.

One thing I have learned however is that we have a need here for OT.

True? Possible? In the works already code-wise?

Thanx guys for all your hard work, just need to clarify a few things before I start bringing the big bucks (not mine).
Prost,

General Discussion / NXT is better than BitShares?
« on: March 30, 2015, 04:04:28 pm »
Here's a guy saying NXT is more "functional" than BitShares. This one may be worthy of your Reply to him:

It's not that I'm paranoid, but I just might be, a little bit- Here's my military training kicking in.
I was sippin my smoothie this afternoon thinkin, ok, worst case scenario, if there was an EMP, all electronics/data would be lost.

So, I'm gonna start burning the .bitshares folder up to cdrom, just in case I lose my thumbdrive.

If Github got wiped out (or seized by feds) the Devs would still have their local ide copies burned to cdrom as well, right?

I know I know, I might be way too extreme in my thinking here, conspiracy theorist, whatever. :-X

I'm just sayin, IF it ever happened, we'd lose everything without a current emp-proof/fed-proof backup of some sort.
I hope others follow my lead on this one, it never hurts to have a Plan B.

I know the Devs have other things to worry about right now, but I just wanna toss this idea out there now so that by keeping this feature in mind, the code will be scalable for customizability features like this in a future version:

ok so, I was reading the Nasdaq X-Stream Trading flyer this morning (http://www.nasdaqomx.com/digitalAssets/82/82651_x-streamtrading.pdf) and it gave me another idea. :o

Remember the ThinkOrSwim (TOS) software?

Have you seen how Cryptrader allows you to drag and drop Markets (and boxes for news, tweets, net worth, etc) where you want them?

Have you seen the charting/tools/chat features of TradingView?

I use the CCC site to show me my net worth:
http://www.cryptocurrencychart.com

I use CMC to quickly check caps, prices, charts:
http://coinmarketcap.com

TOS was awesome. It had everything I needed on one, customizable screen, and it was scalable for my tablet (not so much for my smartphone tho).

Anyhooz, once the mobile wallets start coming out, they will need to recreate the same screens that the BTS Wallet uses over and over which would be a waste of Devs time. App consistency will be needed for mass adoption, tech support for users, etc.

Gui customizability, standardized color coding for specific menus etc, the ability to (CDN?) load json language packs for field labels, column headers etc in realtime (ie: http://kenCode.de), the ability to add a BitShares TV widget and flip thru the playlist, see where I'm going with this? If my mom is gonna start using BitShares, I need to be able to walk her thru her wallet, over a landline phone, no matter which app she is using (moonstone, bts web wallet, a new mobile wallet, whatever).

Good news everywhere; Moonstone, centralized Exchanges are being hacked every week, DPOS-powered PeerTracks will set the social sites on fire, ByteMaster (and others) are bringing in Partners, Let's Talk Bitcoin (the Bitcoins & Gravy show) is about to do a 30min interview with the "Peer to Peer 2015" roadcrew........ man, too much good news to ignore now.

$5, $10, $500, whatever you can afford.
Get in now.
This is the 1 investment in your lifetime that you'd better not miss.
