Random Discussion / The Top 3 crypto-arbitrage apps
« on: March 27, 2015, 02:02:54 pm »
Does anyone in this community arbitrage for a living?
With all the volatility and many Exchanges to choose from, there should be a wide variety of software applications available for doing crypto-arbitrage, right?

Quatloo Trader looks nice, but afaik @fyrstikken only released it on windoze. (i'm a linux guy now)

Can someone here name the top 3 crypto-arbitrage apps for me? Google reveals bupkis.
Please and thanx :)

Can we get .p2p going? Who..?
At least getting it working, browser extensions and agreements with ICANN/IANA/IETF etc can come later.

Or, how about a TLD-less domain name system?
ie: if you type this into a web browser:
bts:kencode
by default, the browser would try to load my website via the Bitshares blockchain and maybe a Storj MetaDisk webhosting api.

I'm a bit worried that the web wallet could be shut down, either via an ISP proxy or a black hat.
If ISP's are told to clamp down on crypto and decentralization sites, all they have to do is filter you out. Click click done:

ie:
What do UK and Iran have in common? Both want to outlaw encrypted apps
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/01/12/iranuk_in_accord_as_pm_promises_to_block_encrypted_comms_after_election

There's no time like the present to get the decentralized dns running.
Our wallets are at stake now, not just the web itself.

General Discussion / Bridges such as MetaExchange
« on: March 26, 2015, 01:27:56 pm »
On this page:
http://bitshares.org/resources/gateways

Could we change this sentence:
The most popular bridge is currently ShapeShift.

..to this:
The most popular BitShares bridge is currently MetaExchange.
(and href to the .info site of course)

I love BitShares, bitAssets, DACs and Delegates.
Now, with that being said, if I was a malicious entity I might want to destroy BitShares by any means necessary so, how would I go about doing it?

Bar shutting down the internet or electricity entirely of course..
1. How would you seize multiple accounts at once? Blockchain..
2. How could you destroy/shutdown a DAC? ie: iTunes might want to kill PeerTracks.
3. If I was an ISP, could I somehow block you from connecting to the BTS blockchain?
4. Can specific ports be closed at the ISP that would lock my bts client software out?
5. Could a centralized Exchange hire a hacker to somehow steal BitShares or BitAssets?

Before I dump larger sums of money into bts and bitassets, I need to know for a fact there's no way my money can get stolen, hacked, proxied off, regulated out, spied upon, etc. I need to know where the weak spots are so that I can fortify those areas as much as technology will allow me to do.

I'd say the ISP could block/proxy access to wallet.bitshares.org quite easily.
An ISP could also block ALL ports, and only leave open 80, 8080, 20, 21, etc. effectively blocking access to bts peers, right?

Please keep this thread on-topic, educated realistic answers only, please.
Moderators, please keep this one on point, thank you. We could use this thread as a sticky.

Hey guys, any chance you cold help me sync up. It's stuck on a block from 2 days ago. I just bought another $100 worth of BTS tooo, but it won't show in the bts client till it syncs.

It's 7 connections right now, won't go any higher. Should I use the console to add more connections or something?
I'd rather not upgrade till 0.10.0 is out next month.
lmk, please and thanx :)

A lot of people (like me, in particular) don't like to download and install stuff.

Shouldn't this page: http://bitshares.org/get-started (no https auto-redirect?)
Also provide the choice of Opening an Account with the Web Wallet as a 4th choice?

So, there would be 4 squares on the above page instead:
Win | Mac | Linux | Web Wallet

Those 4 boxes should then be above where it says "Step 1 - Download Software".
Obviously the Web Wallet would just href to https://wallet.bitshares.org

Just a thought.
I think it would show people that you don't have to install stuff to use BitShares.
Please and thanx :)

General Discussion / BitShares on Bloomberg
« on: March 24, 2015, 03:14:47 pm »
Whoever is in charge of editing this page:
http://bitshares.org/press

Bloomberg changed their link.
The Bloomberg Businessweek link "read more..." needs to be edited to this new link instead:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-02-07/bitcoin-rally-spawns-startups-offering-theft-protection-tech

Please and thanx :)

Ok, I aced Advanced math in school, but suck royally at simple math. I know I know, doesn't make sense.

Question:
At today's average market rate, how many ounces of bitSilver would I have to buy to earn 1.0 bitSilver per day in Yield?

204
I'd like to change the password, maybe even add 2FA, is this possible yet?
I didn't use a very strong password on first install and I'm getting a pretty substantial amount of money invested into bts and bitassets so I need to make sure my investments are as secure as possible, ya know?

#1 This morning I opened up the bts client and the bottom right corner says "Severe network problems | Blocks are synced" - When I mouseover the word Severe a popup says "Delegate participation rate is below 60%, please consider to postpone all transfers until the rate is back to 100%".
Does this have something to do with the shorting bug?

#2 I see v 0.7.0 is out (https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/releases) however, when in the bts client and I click on File > Check for Updates the alert popup still says "No new updates are available." This feature just hasn't been implemented yet, or?

#3 The "Estimated Yield" values of my bitassets have disappeared too..

Thanx in advance :)

The wiki.bitshares.org site is really out of date and as Bitshares progresses it's only gonna get worse.
I'm trying to learn everything I can about BTS before dumping much more money into this. Oh, and yes, I plan on dumping a lot more into this :)

I'd like to help with the wiki but it needs to be syndicated from github first.
Heck, once it's up to date you could even publish it to gitbook so we can all download it as an [always-up-to-date] eBook (pdf, mobi, epub, etc).
A Bitshares 101 second edition if you will.

The Bitshares Toolkit Wiki should move to:
github.com/BitShares/bitshares/toolkit/wiki (or something like that.)

I'd like to contribute to the DNS (.p2p, .dac) stuff too, but it will need to be up on github as well.

Can someone please make the mods on github and get the wiki syndicated so we can start helping out, learn about BTS much faster, and never see outdated docs again?
Please and thanx :)

Random Discussion / The DAC that hired and fired its own staff
« on: March 18, 2015, 03:24:27 pm »
Re: http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/DAC/Hiring_Employees,_Management_and_Development_Teams

Getting hired as a Delegate by a blockchain-driven DAC is WAY more secure than a traditional j.o.b. oh, and no more top heavy management either since they can simply be voted out and replaced with efficiencies never before seen in traditional companies. DPOS DAC's - simply awesome.

SAMIR
I have to leave now, ok? (gets up) I have to get my resume ready.
PETER
Get your resume ready for what? Another job where they can fire you for no reason?
SAMIR
That's right! If I'm lucky.
PETER
Look, I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired of being pushed around. Aren't you?
SAMIR
Yes, Peter, but I'm not going to do something illegal.
PETER
Illegal? Samir, this is America! Come on, sit down! Come on! This isn't Riyadh! They're not gonna saw your hands off, all right?
.......
PETER
The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy. It's just that I just don't care.
BOB PORTER
Don't, don't care?
PETER
It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now, if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime. So where's the motivation? And here's another thing, Bob. I have eight different bosses right now!
BOB SLYDELL
I beg your pardon?
PETER
Eight bosses.
BOB SLYDELL
Eight?
PETER
Eight, bob. So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my real motivation - is not to be hassled. That and the fear of losing my job, but y'know, Bob, it will only make someone work hard enough not to get fired.

Now that the cable companies (here in Germany too) and the FCC (and gov's around the world) are taking control of the internet, we have got to get a handle on DNS and routing RIGHT FRIGN NOW or else Bitshares and the entire ecosystem being built here will quickly become worthless.

Why can't the Bitshares client (or wallet?) also be a web-browser?
The bts: protocol if typed into the browser with a valid username like bts:kencode would bring up my webpage.
Or bts:child.kencode would bring up a different website that I own.
Or bts:kencode.ePlug would bring up my company page.

I hate to sound like a whiny little bitch but man seriously, all this news of the fcc, icann, iana and other restrictions being aggressively pushed thru the pipeline right now scares the shit out of me. They are the Borg, and they're winning on that front.
If we have hundreds of Delegates working on Bitshares, can't we have a few of them get an html5 browser built in to the client and implement bts: based websites ASAP? Think of how many people would flock to Bitshares if we started offering up the new decentralized internet, not only free of charge, but a decentralized internet that PAYS YOU for your participation in it?

Sorry if I sound paranoid guys, but as a meshnet junkie, the dns thing just worries me somethin fierce.

I'm sure a Delegate is already workin on this, but thought I might post my observation here..

CoinMarketCap shows all the bitassets except for BitEUR.. Can we get on there somehow?
http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/views/all

Shapeshift shows one bitasset now, but not all 6. Can that be fixed too?
