Meetup groups, in our opinion (at BitShares Munich) are the #1 best way to introduce people to BitShares, meet on a different day/time and at different locations each time, just have a drink and talk crypto, etc. You'll be amazed at how many people start showing up (http://meetup.com/BitShares-Munich)!! 8)

Now that we have mobile wallets with QR code abilities, it's finally possible to do some local trades!
(see OPENPOS thread in Project Development for updates)
Note: If you have an unlimited data plan on mobile then great, but use WiFi if possible. Open the mobile wallet, send or receive, then close the wallet or else the blocks will continue to sync in the background and suck up your data plan.

To claim your 2500 BTS, just get your Bitshares group created (https://secure.meetup.com/create/) and make sure it shows up here:

The BitShares Wallet for android/iphones (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20762.0/all.html) will be released in 22 languages but we still have not got the Hindi for the apps properly translated yet.

Here is the Hindi that still needs to be translated. Please contact me with any questions or help me get the english text translated into Hindi if you can, we really need your help so that we can get these apps wrapped up!

The BitShares mobile wallets (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20762.0/all.html) all have a "Finder" that allow users to find local Smartcoin friends, POS merchants and BitShares Meetup groups (http://bitshares.meetup.com) using the embedded google maps api. Please contact me to have your Meetup group added to the mobile wallet app.

If you do not have a local Meetup group yet, please start a group!

@Stan and others, we could really use your marketing expertise ...maybe make the formal announcement for us??

The OPENPOS uia just went live a couple days ago and it's kind of buried in the Project Development thread:

The first Q computer was sold about four years ago.
Since then, we have Watson, D-wave, Qubit spinoffs, Google's Annealer, etc.

Call me paranoid, but all hell is breaking loose in the banking sector and I still have that uneasy feeling that we will be targeted, sooner rather than later. Hence my flames in the "number of witnesses" and "witness geo-diversity" threads.

Since IBM, Apple, ExxonMobil and others are now dabbling in the Q space, what's to stop them from flipping the switch on and wiping our witnesses out? Can we add a layer of PQCrypto (or something) for a stronger defense?

Meta / Can we please upgrade this forum to NodeBB?
« on: December 16, 2015, 11:51:31 am »
This forum has seen its day.
Poor search, archaic layout, you name it.

How about NodeBB (https://nodebb.org)?

It looks gorgeous, is mobile responsive, gets great reviews (search forum software on google), has real-time chat, supports Adsense ads for BTS businesses, has gamification, Q&A features like stackexchange, integrates with Slack and other cloud sites (like docs.bitshares.eu).. and it's free.

General Discussion / Even Dogecoin has us beat - GAAAAH!!
« on: December 09, 2015, 09:13:59 am »
Compare this: http://bitshares.meetup.com (6 groups) :-[

To this:
http://ethereum.meetup.com (152 groups)
http://maidsafe.meetup.com (8 groups)
http://bitcoin.meetup.com (664 groups)
http://litecoin.meetup.com (30 groups)
http://ripple.meetup.com (13 groups)
http://dogecoin.meetup.com (14 groups)

To become a Meetup Organizer, all you have to do is signup on meetup.com and then schedule the meetup at a coffee shop, bar, restaurant or even at your own home. Show them how to use the web wallet, register an account, create a uia (and the reasons why), buy some bitEUR in the dex, flirt a little, or just talk about cryptocurrencies in general.

You don't have to be a coder, a trader, or a marketing guru to get the word out there. If nothing else, setup your local BitShares Meetup group just for something social to do. You know you need to get out of the house once in a while :)

Random Discussion / Disappear, digitally
« on: December 06, 2015, 07:32:20 pm »
I am compiling a list of what appears to be the top contenders in decentralized and encrypted:
  • "Cloud" services for Email and Contacts - ?
  • VPN's that are not in EU, NAU or any other "Union" - Le VPN
  • Browsers that mask me - Tor
  • "Cloud" services where I can store my data and access it from anywhere - Storj
  • VoIP, Chat, Videoconferencing - Tox, Telegram, Jitsi

It's not really that easy to disappear yet it seems. Am I missing any other apps that might work on my linux mint pc and android? Should I dump Android as well and go with an alternative hardened OS on it?

Thanx guys for any leads.. :)

General Discussion / Converting gold & silver into bitGOLD & bitSILVER
« on: November 30, 2015, 08:02:51 am »
I have a friend who wants to convert some of his real gold and silver coins into bitGOLD and bitSILVER. How??
Since cryptosmith.info is now forever offline, is there anyone else stepping up to the plate?
JPM and Goldman certainly won't.

Precious metals come in more flavors than just gold and silver too, I'd like to see a PM exchange like CCEDK open up in a crypto-friendly location, preferably in Denmark, Switzerland or Isle of Man. What about iridium, palladium, platinum and maybe even high-demand metals like aluminum and iron?

That Exchange (cryptometals.dk anyone?) could offer a profit sharing, value-rising token just like OBITS and we could all share in its success.

General Discussion / Worker Proposals vs Human Tokens

Worker Proposals vs Human Tokens
 - example UIA: BILL.CARRIGAN ... remember trading baseball cards?

You want to raise money for a project.
This project will bring hundreds of thousands of transactions and liquidity to the BitShares platform.

Since this project will benefit everyone in the BitShares ecosystem, you think "hey, I'll just get a Worker voted in and have everyone pay for it". Then the other voice says "but that is use of force. it should still be voluntary for everyone to help you fund this project".

Which voice would you listen to?

Technical Support / The "memo" field
« on: November 21, 2015, 11:30:03 am »
1. How large is, or can the memo field be?
2. Does it now, or can it (in the near future) support HTML or BBCode for markup?
3a. Would it be possible to also add a BLOB (or similar) field for storing say, mp3 or mp4 6GB+ file(s) with that "memo" textarea?
3b. or would Storj/Factom technology be needed for this feature?
