Technical Support / Re: Missing BitAssets in v0.8 (OSX) - solved
« on: April 22, 2015, 04:53:54 am »
Sorry, i should've made a separate resolved post, my bad.

It was an unsettling issue, as the client reported it was fully sync'd - yet i was still missing some BitAssets.
So, I was able to get all the BitAssets accounted for, by following the advice on other threads here.  iirc, i first issued a:
wallet_regenerate_keys [ACCOUNT-NAME] 10500
then:
wallet_rescan_blockchain <block_number before my missing BitAssets transactions, i used something from late February, eg 1850000>

Then just let it churn, and lo and behold the missing assets showed up.

What are we to do with the "include" folder in the .dmg?

General Discussion / Re: Moonstone Fundraiser Help Thread
« on: April 12, 2015, 04:24:22 am »

The price of BTS moved within that time period faster than our API call to our price feed. Metaexchange is showing the correct amount. The correct amount should be displayed within a few minutes on Moonstone.io. Both are just estimates as the final amount is calculated once the first Bitcoin confirmation happens after 10-15 minutes.

If you want to see your final balance faster, and if you already have a TITAN ID with the current wallet, you can use Metaexchange. After 10-15 minutes you'll get your MOONFUND tokens.

Please let us know whether there are any other issues you encounter!

When i submit the form on the crowdfunding page https://moonstone.io/, (after moving the mouse around, and entering the password) - the page now is outputting the following incorrect text:
Quote
You will receive approximately
0.00 Moonstone Tokens per Bitcoin

I realize what you say above probably explains the issue, I just wanted to raise it to you so you're aware of it, as this will likely deter investors.

General Discussion / Re: 0.6.1 on Mac not syncing
« on: March 28, 2015, 09:44:24 pm »
I've had issues syncing with 0.6.1, but most have been solved with Force Quit, and restarting.  Worst case is just remove/rename the /Library/Application Support/BitShares/peers.leveldb folder, and restart client.

Can you or others confirm if removing peers.leveldb always or often fixes this problem for you?

Well, it did seem to work, tho i've only tried it the 1 time, so the sample size is rather tiny.  I've since figured out to save the entire BitShares folder for a backup, as redownloading the entire blockchain was a timely hassle.
What are the steps in doing this?
I'm finding that every time I install a new version I am re-downloading the entire block-chain, and its just so time-consuming recently I can't really do it effectively anymore (especially as I am having syncing issues on the last couple of versions), I'm almost giving up on using the client for trading. Much appreciated if somebody has the preferred step-by-step method.

i simply just made a compressed tar archive of the entire BitShares folder (from the folder containing the BitShares folder, in OSX that's /Library/Application Support/) eg:

tar -pczf BitShares-backup.tar.gz ./BitShares/

then I simply uncompressed that ^^ archive when things went haywire (tho i'm not having the same luck w/client v0.8)

When i'm unable to login via the main GUI screen, which seems to be happening rather frequently in v0.8 (after entering the password, i get the grey "3 dots" cycling ad infinitum alpha-blended overlay, and nothing ever happens);  i then go to the Accounts -> Go to My Accounts option from the menu (in OSX, shift-command-A), and enter the password in that plain popup text dialog box, which then grants me access to the client.   ymmv.

Also try "wallet_account_balance account_name" in the console (account name in the top right, advanced, console tab) to see whether your balance is reported correctly there.  That will help narrow down whether it's a sync or wallet issue or a gui issue.

i did this on my initial attempt with v0.8, and it was reporting the same amounts as the GUI showed (missing BitCNY and BitEUR balances), I will try again once i am synced up again.

Update:  after a second attempt at issuing a "wallet_regenerate_keys <account_name> 10500" and then a "rescan 1891249" - the client has sync'd up properly once more.

Hey jz. Check out this page for recovering funds: http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/RecoveringFunds

Especially the wallet_regenerate_keys command. That seems to do the trick a lot of the time.

Many thanks for this, i'll give it a try if the new chain download doesn't jive.

... After letting it download all night, i returned to a sync'd blockchain, but it wouldn't accept my password at the main login screen.  I went to the menu (Accounts -> Go To My Accounts) and entered my password there, which granted me access to the client, but i am still missing some BitAssets (BitCNY and BitEUR).

I then went to the console and entered in the " wallet_set_transaction_scanning true" command, which returned "true" - then no more commands worked, any command i enter at the console seems to be ignored.   I let it run for a while, with no discernable change in anything, and quitting put it into a "not responding" state, which required me to end task on it.

Now i created a brand new BitShares folder, and copied my wallets folder into it, and restarted - but the client nearly immediately went to a "not connected" state when it launched.  Restarting it, and letting it download the chain once more.

When i ran my old copy of v0.7 and I was able to see the missing BitAssets - I couldn't figure out how to get more info on the transaction, as it was labelled "virtual"  which isn't clickable to get more info on, at least i couldn't get the transaction details by clicking on the yellow "Virtual" tag, like i can when i click on the blue "Details" tag in the log...?

Technical Support / Missing BitAssets in v0.8 (OSX) - solved
« on: March 28, 2015, 04:50:34 am »
So i finally got my copy of 0.8.0 to sync up (after removing the chain and peers.leveldb folders and re-downloading the blockchain) - but now i'm missing some BitAssets  :o   I know i had some BitCNY, as i was pumped last week when I noticed (in v0.7) that my account had acquired its first whole BitCNY in yield, sweet!
But now, when i am running v0.8 - i don't show any BitCNY balance at all, and when i go to the BitCNY market, i have nothing in order history - why could that be?  I am 100% certain I bought 2999.9 of them within the past 2 weeks or so (after loading v0.7, it showed the BitCNY was purchased on 3/10).   I also had a few BitEUR, but my account does not show that balance either.  Any suggestions as to what I should try?  I did a "wallet_rescan_blockchain" from the console, but nothing missing showed up...??

Could it be possible that my transactions made on the exchange with the v0.7 client were "ignored" in v0.8 somehow?

In fact, i just loaded up the v0.7 client, and i'm showing the balance i was expecting once more (using a BitShares folder I had saved, not the one i've used with the upgraded v0.8 client) - with the 2,999.998 BitCNY balance.  In v0.7 (with the correct, expected BitAssets balances) my account had 17 pages of transactions - in the v0.8 newly downloaded chain, i only had 12 pages of transactions...?

I am now removing the chain, log, and peers.leveldb folders once more and trying v0.8 fresh chain download.

General Discussion / Re: bitUSD Mining is now live!

Today my Titan's BFGminer is showing that the pool is "misbehaving"
Quote
0: Misbehav Strtm Quota 1 Pool 0: stratum+tcp://bts.minebitshares.com:4446

I've also tried on port 4444, same thing:

3: Misbehav Strtm Quota 1 Pool 3: stratum+tcp://usd.minebitshares.com:4444

Any idea wassup?  Seems to have been since the litedodge coin was added (or maybe that's just co-incidental).  fwiw, i tried adding the /#skipcbcheck parameter to the pool, as has been suggested elsewhere to fix the coinbasecheck error, which didn't work either:
Quote
0: Enabled  Dead  Quota 1 Pool 4: stratum+tcp://bts.minebitshares.com:4446/#skipcbcheck

update: looks like adding the #xnsub parameter to the pool's URL has fixed it:

0: Enabled  Strtm Quota 1 Pool 5: stratum+tcp://bts.minebitshares.com:4446/#skipcbcheck#xnsub

I don't think bter has contacted any devs about unstable wallet. IIRC nothing has changed since before the hack.
this seems like a major red flag.  :o

Both of my attempts to have my BTS withdrawn have failed, and now the withdraw/BTS page gives the message "BTS withdrawal is disabled" - now my balance is at zero, so i'm stuck in limbo. Hoping that this isn't the ol' "passing of the buck".

Is there an option, or any plans to have a pool option to payout in BitShares, instead of BitUSD?  I realize the BitUSD can be sold for BitShares, but if you're converting BitShares into BitUSD for paying the miners, it's likely some would prefer to not have it converted and remain as BTS.

It is something I'm exploring in potential partnership with the likes of metaexchange. Miners could use the password field in the stratum protocol to specify how they would like to be paid... i.e. BTS, BitUSD, BitSilver etc...
+5% love Love LOVE this idea!

Just means I'll use the internal BitShares Asset Exchange... to buy BitUSD

So it's not just the chain folder I'll need to keep a snapshot of?  Your example is the entire BitShares folder (minus the wallet folder, i guess?)  I have over 6G in the logs folder - methinks someone's a chatty Kathy on the log.

How long did it take to build up that many log messages? They should not be that huge. Have you modified your log level at all in "config.json"?

That 6G+ logs/p2p folder was built in just 1 day/few hours, after i emptied the contents of it earlier.  I have not modified the config.json at all.  The only thing i've done, besides truncating the logs/p2p folder, was to remove the peers.leveldb folder when I was having trouble connecting to peers, as I read somewhere as a suggestion to fix that issue.

However, unfort. I have already deleted those logfiles (wanted to make a smaller tar backup), and my logs/p2p folder is now just 16M, oops.

as I recall, the p2p.log file was being filled with messages similar to this:
Quote
2015-02-23T20:20:23 p2p:message read_loop ~call_statistics_col ] Call to method node_delegate::get_blockchain_synopsis took 633198us, longer than our target maximum of 500ms                   node.cpp:329

If it happens again, i'll be sure to do a better job reporting it.   8)
