General Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitshares E-sports Tournament [ANN]
« on: December 21, 2015, 02:16:33 am »
I imagine this getting more popular by getting it done at universities too. If you do it from X to X months, rotating universities. Then doing this every year to gather even a bigger crowd... It could get popular.

Specially if you find some team or famous players/streamers to sponsor this.

We are already in touch with a number of major teams.
Doing this in the model suggested by you would require a lot more resources.
Maybe, some time when we have our E-sports venture running at scale :)

General Discussion / [ANN] Bitshares E-sports Tournament [ANN]
« on: December 20, 2015, 08:09:24 pm »
I am happy to announce that we are launching a new initiative at Freebie LLC. We are fronting the first ever Bitshares E-Sports tournament in the first month of January. In order to help attain the goal of garnering more users into the Bitshares Ecosystem we are working towards :

    * Opening a tournament with Bitshares as prizes
    * Setting up of an intuitive wallet within the tournament sign up system
    * Establishment of our E-sports venture's early marketing campaign done via UIA's issued on Bitshares.

We are also fronting a new wallet - with absolute basic systems (send, receive and history) to avoid confusing the end users with pointless functionality that does not appeal to them. In the current variation its a trustless system and we store the information encrypted with AES and the information cannot be decrypted without knowledge of the users password which we do not store. We are looking to have our tournament attracting around 16-32 teams with around 5 members in each team. We will be working via marketing channels such as twitch and forums to garner the crowds. A key reason why we had delayed this promotion for so long was the fact that we were waiting for key pieces such as the sharebot and our e-sports venture falling in place. Now that we are looking to go all in, with promotions.  The  tournament we are hosting for Bitshares is the first of many projects we are looking to launch in the months to come. We intend to launch 2 key projects that have been in the works for months in the months to come.

This is quintessential to the Bitshares eco-system as this is the first time an organization is running an operation of scale into a demographic as diverse as that of gaming. We will be using a plugin to automatically transfer winnings to the users and utilizing UIA's for active marketing of the project. In addition, users will be directly interacting with the Bitshares blockchain, without having to go through the pain of setting up a wallet - or utilizing the overly confusing UI of the existing wallet. This is just the beginning and we are looking forward to doing lots more for the community. I'll be following up in the thread with rules, updates and on-going promotions.

Endorsements & Funding

Although we intend to bear a large part of the tournament's expenses through the financial backing provided by the aforementioned community member, we are open to taking donations from individuals and organizations in regards to the marketing campaign. Brands , start-ups and teams looking for endorsements of their products and product integrations into our eco-system may contact me via pm to discuss further possibilities. Currently, we are looking  for individuals looking to give away prizes, sponsor ranked teams and twitch streamers and back us financially for the marketing campaign.

We are also looking to upgrade our Bitshares account (gamebet-gg) - upgraded to Lifetime.
All Donations made to the account will be utilized for marketing the ecosystem here and further enhancing the Bitshares brand amongst gamer demographic.

If you can contribute beyond solely funding - and wish to help in terms of marketing, man-power, server administration or any other role, feel free to message me and I'd be glad to sit down and work along with you.

Hey,

Would you like to work with gamers ?
We work with a large number of renown gamers (and will be working with them for Bitshares soon) - and I'd be glad to connect them if you want to sponsor them.

Yea, instant conf, makes it far more interesting.
That said, there are other expenses

1. Licensing guy will need x amount upfront. Lets say I can get it for 2k
2. Development will be another pain in the  bum - we'll need to spend cash there
3. There's the house rake - so that will require funds.
4. Marketing ?

So yea, as much as I'd want to launch this as a weekend project and hand it back to the community, looking at the expenses, I wouldn't jump on it.
Possible ? Yes.
Costly ? Maybe.
Profitable ? Yes.

Status Update

Those of you mining may have noticed that payouts have gone past the threshold that we set for the pool. This is due to cryptsy delaying the transfer of BTC out of their exchange. There have been a whirlwind of other accusations related to cryptsy payouts including class actions.

Some of our more profitable coins were only on cryptsy, but there isn't more profit when you simply are not getting paid out.

I decided that we would cut our losses, and use what coins we can, and a few new ones that we can exchange at Poloniex, and Bittrex.

Between these two exchanges, we currently have about 17 coins between all three algos that the pool currently supports. In addition to this, we also have enabled merge mining with DOGE. We are working out a way to make this part of the bonus payout.

The migration has not been completed yet. As you can see, after we had updated all the wallets and the config for the pool it appears all our charts suddenly stopped working. This has been reported to @Freebieservers along with the updated deposit addresses to start being directed at the other exchanges. If you ignore the charts you can see from the workers below on the Dashboard the current coins that are being mined.

Hopefully we will see the payout make its way out of crytpsy, but we aren't holding out a lot of hope given all the accusations and the shrinking volume happening there.

Please continue to test the pool and report any other issues you are finding, or things missing that you think should be there in regards to features and/or reporting. If you have been mining elsewhere while we are still in development and have seen some good success with other coins, also feel free to share and we can consider adding those to the pool if they are available for exchange on Polo/Bittrex.

I can confirm he's shared the required information in the group chat.
That said, its sad to see these delays - thanks to external factors.
Hybridd might be off until later today (exams) but am sure he'll update as soon as he's on.

As BCL mentioned - do share inputs as it would help come out with a far better product.

Regards

How many of you guys would actually be interested in backing the house if we launch a dice based project (open source maybe)  ?
Keep in mind, it will be basic and not decentralized, but functional and good enough to get things rolling.
Should, ofcourse ask kuro and hybridd if its even possible, but yea.

Many people would probably take that risk, but not me, because without a gambling licence you can expect a knock at the door from your local authorities who would confiscate the bank :)

I have a connect whose license could be "possibly" used.
Will need to link up and confirm.

General Discussion / Key Bitshares Projects?
« on: December 14, 2015, 12:22:30 pm »
Hey guys,

Just wanted to crowd source some information for a document on the ecosystem here.
Would you guys mind naming the key projects here ?

So far there's

1. Muse
2. Play
3. Identabit
4. Sharebits
5. Bunkerchainlabs ?

What more ?
I am looking for key players,  their orles and funds raised if any.
Alternatively, just name them and I could do the rest of the research.

P.s - is there a central repository with this info ? If not ,why not make one ?

Meta / Re: [POLL] Tipbot Yes/No

This is a great project @fuzzy!  I was just planning to test this out on the forums with some UIA's.  I think we should continue to experiment openly with tipping & sharing with social currency, Smartcoins and asset-backed UIA's.   I think what @Freebieservers said about the business side is very good and tweaking how it works is just part of product development.   Having it delivered via PM is good, but you also want to allow people to discover it so you can maintain the viral component of the system.  Maybe just have some indicator on the upper right of the post that show the UIA tips... just like karma points on reddit.  Just a thought.

The problem with this is the forums aren't even owned by the community/admins? Idk, but I recall being told it was hosted by Bitsapphire. So... really, plugin development is out of the question unless we migrate to a forum engine that the admins actually have full control over. If we were to do that, we might as well just build a smarter forum engine tailored to BTS all together...

Plugin development is a tedious process for smf.

Meanwhile, we're still sitting on our asses with a white paper that suggested radical changes to governance and socialising amidst forum members from six months back -_-.
If we expect to go against the mainstream, atleast begin in-house solutions fo coordinate the fight against the mainstream :)

We might not. Unless there's clear public interest in backing it. If we have sufficient people pledging toward the project we will. If not, we won't. Reason being we have literally slaved for the past six months to save enough towards the launch of it.

Bootstrap is sexy.
However in the presence of public interest, we might reconsider.

Happy to let you know that we are inching closer to project completion and should be live by Q1 2016.
This will be our return to our core business and market (gaming).
Electrons.io - will be our last (purely)crypto oriented project for a while.
Post launch and marketing, we'll be looking at teams to either run / own the project as we make the transition back to our core competencies.

General Discussion / Re: [ANN] For those who care to know
« on: December 13, 2015, 04:41:28 pm »
@fuzzy
The most important piece of information is a clear explanation how this tipbot operates.
Its official website offers me no clue how to use it and how the tips find their way from the sender to the recipient.

Having done a lot of guessing, I now suspect the tipbot distributes the tips off-chain  - is this correct?
(So the sender first needs to deposit a UIA with the bot's BitShares account, then call the bot to send the UIA to someone, and then the recipient has to withdraw the tip to their BitShares account  - is this correct?)

I admit I haven't read all the existing forum threads about the tipping, so all I currently know is this:
(1) People on this forum have started sending tips to each other in the form of some strange UIAs
(2) The forum has become harder to use because of the automated posts generated by the bot.

And to be able to judge the value added by the bot I'd like to know this:
(1) What is the actual workflow needed to send a tip from person A to B?
(2) How does this bot earn its revenue? Is it a viable business model that can be replicated elsewhere?

I have to admit fuzzy I was confused for the reasons jakub mentions here. I very much appreciate your efforts, and your intentions and reasons for creating the tip bot, that was never in question in my mind.

I was further confused by the process you used to fund the development of the bot, it seemed like some sort of investment that anticipated an ROI, but the ROI was not clear to me ASIDE FROM it being a worthy but open ended investment in YOU. Had you posted even a small portion of your OP here to explain your motivation for the bot I may have been less confused.

Never-the-less, jakub's questions still remain unanswered. I would hate to see the effort scraped. With a few minor tweaks the impact on the forum can be eliminated so I say just do it (minimize font size or better yet move acknowledgements to PMs). If a HOWTO post is published as a sticky somewhere in the forums it will surely help eliminate some of the confusion.

Lastly I'm sorry your efforts and the motives for them were so misunderstood. It feels doubly awful when what you believe is a good and virtuous thing is perceived as the opposite. I truly hope your OP will help the community understand better and they will come around as a result. Go, get away from here and have some fun playing with Jerico & get the positive affirmation you need and deserve from your family.

IMO he just needed some time off.
He'll bounce back with 2x the strength and fortitude.
