General Discussion / Re: Emergency Measure - Temporary Shutdown
« on: November 30, 2015, 04:02:37 pm »
Hey Jonathan.

Glad that you decided to post about this.
We were discussing things internally too and this is the best way we could permit the community to know what's going on (although I need to point out, you just defaulted your own NDA here, but whatever)

Okay, now down to the issues at hand here.

1. You believe, we do not contribute sufficient time to the project and expect more from us (justified)
2. You believe this should have been wrapped up 2 months back

I'd like to bring to your notice a few things

1. We just sent the migration data via skype.
2.  You know this as well as anyone else that you haven't found the time to sit down with us and help us with the transition. Anyone that's worked with us on sharebits would know that we're available 24/7 on skype when we're on projects and we do give it our best but am all open to post chat logs and show you - how you have been busy with your other projects and haven't given us your time in regards to helping us with the transit. We are currently integrating with an exchange and we do take time in advance and schedule with coders from the other side so we have individuals with the technical expertise working with us, as and when we need them. Have we been able to schedule time with you and do the same ? There have been innumerous cases where you said "BRB" and went to be with your son, or had an emergency and left off to the bunker in the middle of tests and transition. How can an external enterprise help you with the transition with behaviour like that?

3. You've been sitting on the core software for a month or so now with basic transition issues going on. Some things mentioned are not even in the scope of the contract, but we have personall helped you set up your daemons and boxes and you come here..talking this of us.

4. We are not YOUR company. We are contractors. This means, while we will take time to figure your system out, you need to be present to assist us when we need you. You not being available doesn't help us in any way.

5. We did create a front end and a back end - went beyond the scope of the contract to be of service to you and ..this is what we get in return.

To end with, for the users here - you would have had your pool up a month back if Jonathan wasn't busy handling so many things at once. Unlike him, I understand business and I have to point out he is handling too many things together and due to the same its possible he couldn't commit the time required to spend with us to assist with the transition. But to come out and put the blame on us like this.. it hurts.

You have had the software for over a month with a minor setback on the transition aspect pending. To come out and have the audacity to tell people that we are at fault for your lack of commitment is admirable. Please message me when you decide to invest the time and energy to commit to this project and we'd be glad to cover this.

When you say the community wants results : we have delivered on other projects here, and are all set to launch 3 more in the weeks to come.
We understand results, but usually it doens't involve the counterparty being off so often.
Personally, I am obliged to admit, we are not perfect. Hell we're far from there. But pointless attacks like these..
Not sure, how I should react to them.

Tony, you certaintly have a way with words.  Thank you for this poll, it is missing just one option:  "CmdrTaco hasn't adopted BTS yet".

Getting to 80% is my strength, finishing the last 20% is my weakness and has long been the case even before BitShares. BitShares is the single project I have stuck with the longest in my life and which has actually reached a usable product in the hands of thousands of users.

Everyone wants us to focus on "ONE THING" and I largely agree with that. It had better be the right "ONE THING" though or we are dead.

My personality type is INTJ (http://www.16personalities.com/intj-personality) and I am constantly challening my beliefs and understanding to make things better. I have a very hard time working toward a sub-optimal solution and what is optimal is constantly changing as knowledge increases.  I am smart enough to recognize the value of focusing on one thing as well as the futility of pursuing something to completion that will be outdated by the time it gets there.

I would say that to put my skills to their best use, I should solve problems, prove the concept, and hand it off to people that are good at taking it all the way.

Anyway, BitShares is a lifelong project that will evolve in the direction this community takes it. It must become bigger than CNX and bigger than me.

That is why we are moving toward open sourcing everything.  Once we open source it, we can continue to improve / develop it together. I have long term plans for it, but obviously need to blend it with short terms needs.

At the end of the day, complaining about others is the least effective means of change. Either do something to help, shut up, or leave.  CNX will do everything we can to avoid being the bottleneck to progress and give the community room to do what is necessary.

Okay am going to step in and speak. Am usually a lurker and its largely Kuro that has been doing the talks in this community (and I thank him for that).
What am about to say is in view of someone that stepped into freebieservers when it was small, made maybe a few wrong decisions in terms of fund raising and stuck with it for around 19 months now. Before this, I was previous involved in a start-up that did raise sufficient venture capital to capture major market share (again within crypto) - but am not going to speak much about it.

Firstly, and foremost, from my experience at freebieservers : any business has one function at the end of the day, to make money.
The rules of the game are pretty simple : You enter the arena, show what you have, raise if needed, then begin making money.
Loans, equity shares, debentures, side hustles, take what it may need, you simply don't run out of money.

Between my experience at FS and the previous start-up, there was one simple difference.
FS made me cash, the other didn't. And there was a simple reason behind this.
We gave fuck about our customers.

If I were to analyze my chats with kuro112- it'd probably be a 20 percent cut into personal affairs, 30 percent on future products, and 50 percent on why we should build the things we do. As a biz dev, I come up with fucked up ideas from all over the god damn place, but unless it makes sense to the end  consumer, in most cases we don't ship it. This is evident in how we market ourselves. Except for one case where I accidentally spent a bit on FB marketing , at no point have we spent on cash as such. Since am usually on the forefront of marketing I know what this actually means : users. We went from obscure to "something" - because  we had a produc that solved a problem really well and did it right. I recall months of planning where we put our servers, how we administer them and why we should source them from the places we do to ensure the end users get the best experience. You might be wondering..why am stating this.

You see the line about BM being that smart kid that couldn't focus in school yet was the smartest kid ?
I've been that kid. I've failed a year in school being exactly that kid. When I read that line, all I could do and see what I have done right and wrong with our businesses in the past year and it all boils down to one thing : we (try to) serve our customers with a simple solution and do it absolutely well.

We have a large number of projects still pending, and we have a long list of tings we want to do, but we take them on  one step at a time and sure we fail, sure we have days we starve if I don't close enough sales deals and then there are times the servers are about to go down and kuro has to ring up our partners and beg for time.. but that's what the hutle is about. Its about enduring and evolving .

We are at the forefront of a financial revolution. As hard as it may be for us to comprehend at the moment, we are changing the world in one tiny fashion at the time. From what I have noticed, the size of the problems we are solving is way too big and the number of talented individuals that can actually take the financial and intellectual risks and change things are way too low. BM keeps being all over the place because as an individual he is bound to engage in activities that creates profits for himself and the ones that are engaged with him. I mean, look at Satoshi. One could say he was "experimenting' , but doesn't he hold 350 million dollars worth of Bitcoin as of today ? (open to debate). My point being, its natural that we tend to look out for ourselves and the licensing, VC front and setting up of CNX are all a step in that direction.

So how do we evolve ? well, look at big brother Bitcoin. How did Bitcoin evolve?
The way I see it, they grew to what they are by creating user cases. Be it silk road or gyft, Bitcoin had and continues to evolve in terms of usability. Now look at Bitshares. Do we have that here ? Dont throw Muse and Play at my face because I don't see what they are doing. Actually, I reached out to play and asked for a collaboration for weeks and saw nothing. There's FMV and I know they are upto stuff as I've been following them. My point being, unless we create usability, noone's going to give a fuck and this usability doesn't have to come from banks or financial services. They can be gamers, social media sites, your grandma, anyone. What BM is doing is the right thing with open sourcing the platform and stepping aside. He's laid the foundation for what we should evolve into and am sure there are problems that each one of us tackle. For me, its financial inclusion and remittance (on the long run) and gaming. For someone else it could be identity and smart contracts. Its upto us to grow this thing.

Communities like ours are a case study on global collaboration on solving a problem. We are bound to fail. We are bound to make mistakes, but it is things like these that lead us to the future.

If we want this to succeed we need to empower entrepreneurs and builders to do what they do, either with a great product of with funding. Support could also be in terms of product tests - like what you've been doing with us on the sharebot  and as this slowly evolves and attracts moer eyes...we'll finally see that shore of scale and prfitability.

Imagine this with bitAssets!!

http://motherboard.vice.com/read/play-for-real-bitcoin-in-this-bomberman-clone

Pure skill!! No pay to win ahah

Didn't people talk about gaming communities? @fuzzy @Freebieservers

This is it!

Get CNX to train during a few months. Bet that thousand BTC and we're set!

2 things.

1. We were directly involved in the development of a game (backed), but we've stepped down and that leaves a little headspace to work on something of this line. I'll need to see how this works on the long run vision of the organization and profitability. I'll discuss with @kuro112 and come to a conclusion

2. We are working internally on a minor marketing campaign of sorts and it has Bitshares deeply integrated into it. I'll be making announcements of it soon. It isn't live yet as I was travelling and there was the entire allegation fiasco.. so now we're slowly moving into this.

Regards

I'm sure a Delegate is already workin on this, but thought I might post my observation here..

CoinMarketCap shows all the bitassets except for BitEUR.. Can we get on there somehow?
http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/views/all

Shapeshift shows one bitasset now, but not all 6. Can that be fixed too?
https://shapeshift.io

I'll try and have them all listed at electrons.io as we move past the deployment of the tipbot

Also I sent 0.07 bitbtc to electron-io 35 mis ago with no btc address in the memo as I thought it would remember it from my last transaction but hasn't seemed to.

this is the address I want it sent to please:  1HJDBUEYQMUU7hXYf64KYiLs6GJ2SBGMj2

I believe the initial system was meant to keep a tab on the bts wallet and the associated btc address but it was dropped in order to avoid keeping any user info of sorts.
Issues like these make me want to discuss putting it back on.

Let's see if I can address some of the questions here...

Although not explicitly asked, yes it's possible to create a UIA and then pay users based on their performance (obviously you would want to limit this to only paying for non-custom games to prevent cheating the system, for modes like ARAM a user could still be rewarded, but performance would need to be judged differently then simply objectives, KDA, etc so that's up for debate). Regardless, it's possible to do using the Riot API in the same way op.gg pulls stats on people. What would need to be established is what we're rewarding people based on, and how much (and how this varies between game modes / what games modes are supported).

Gifting RP however, is very limiting https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752964-Gifting-Guide-and-FAQ
I'll highlight the important parts,
Quote
You can only send up to 10 gifts every 24 hours.
You can only receive up to 10 gifts every 24 hours.

The player receiving a gift needs to have been on your buddy list for at least one day.
The player receiving a gift cannot be banned or suspended (this includes Leaverbuster, Tribunal, etc.).

You can only send up to 5 RP gifts every 24 hours
You can only receive up to 5 RP gifts every 24 hours

There's no easy way around this without intentionally bypassing the system which Riot would crack down on. We would have to use a queue-based system which would possibly work early on, but doesn't have very good scalability.

Reminds me of steam's restrictions on trading items on new accounts.

Thinking about how this can be done...

- issue an UIA (RPoints)
- sell RPs for bitUSD/EUR (1 RP = 0.011)
- Gift IG Items in exchange for RPoints

the idea is to make a Paywall (tasks/app installations) and payout in Riotpoints.

this would benefit BTS greatly, but I'm not sure if this is sustainable. any thoughts?

We already have a marketplace in the making, but I haven't thought of doing this on a paywall basis.
I am sure this can be (technically) done, but we'll need to look at how to schedule this in line with our other releaes.
We have the tipbot coming out, then there's electrons for which scaling is yet to be done, then there's an API solution, and then there's 2 other game related ventures, all pending. As much as we'd like to go God mode there's restrains we mortals have to deal with :)

P.s - Really appreciate you posting in the subforum. Lets get this place active.

Forgive my ignorance but how is this different/better than shapeshift or metaexchange?

Haha this funny.

First let me repeat that Metaexchange is the BTS related project that I respect the most. [after the only one better, imho,  decided to pursue Bigger and far more unrealistic dreams, that is]. Meta still has competitive advantages - relative orders for now, and I do trust them to come  with some sort of bond market even before BTS itself does.

What are these guys [Electrons]  actually saying is - Screw you Shapeshif and your business model...financed with millions of USD, mind you. This is so ridiculously simple, we can provide the same [or better] service for free... and code it in our sleep!

exactly, meta has their own niche market, this service is actually not intended to compete with them, but rather work parallel  - actually this system uses our barter exchange api, which we will be announcing in the future, but suffice it to say maybe meta would want to use our api to enhance their features in the future, who knows.

We are not here to battle other services, but like kuro said, compliment them.
We have an in-house system that should empower exchanges to possess both market liquidity and optimal pricing.
Announcements will be made post completion of the tipbot

You are good in reading minds, aren't you?
I truly admire what the guys at Shapeshift are doing and in terms of age, I was still a boy when the man behind Shapeshift made his "name" in crypto, but yes, we genuinely believe its BS that you require that much in funding to do what the system does. I wish them all the best and look forward to competing with them as this slowly grows. For the moment, its a boot-strapped inhouse project made open to the public for free.

ShareBits.io's Launch Bringing 'Crypto' Technology To Mass-Market Solutions

To support the BitShares community in making the Sharebits make a difference out there in the real world, and allow an increasing amount of new interested parties, users and projects enjoy the Bitshares 2.0 platform Openledger, the Sharebits has managed to get a space in the Forbes window, I hope you all enjoy and will help spread the news. Lets give this article a warm welcome with lots of twitter love, facebook and linkedin mentioning as well as Reddit upvotes etc, and then once you are done, you can start tipping all the connections you has managed to bring this message out, by simply sending a tip via the new BitShares project Sharebit.io

Enjoy, and lets get the fun started :)

can they share some UIA's on those platforms?

Yes, UIA tipping will be possible on every platform we support.

Forgive my ignorance but how is this different/better than shapeshift or metaexchange?

Hey,

Am incredibly glad you asked.
In the case of shapeshift, you have dynamic addresses, which means you are required to send the $'s to a different wallet each time (and then the exchange is done) and sent back. This is a hassle if you use the system often and are required to paste wallet id's often.

In comparison, our system uses a single address( electrons-io) and exchanges the currency at the best possible rates from multiple sources and sends you btc.
This means, you can actually exchange without ever going to electrons.io. All you truly need to do is just go to your wallet, select amount of bts to be exchanged, send  to electrons-io with your bitcoin address as the memo and the system sends it. Basically you can entirely circumvent ever visitng an exchange or electrons.io and get your coins exchanged to Bitcoin right from interacting from your wallet.

Also, this needs to be verified and proved, but from our internal tests so far, we have been able to repeatedly provide the best rates.

P.s - I have massive respect for shapeshift and metaexchange. We are only building on what they laid foundations for and believe we can do better.

This is great, imho.

Also I think bitsharestalk's database  updated on me.. I do not who's wise or not so comment was it, but I believe someone posting here.

Hey Tonyk,

Thanks for the kind words. Really feels good to hear this coming from you.

What can I say - at least you know those are not some made up compliments, but something I really think.

And while on the topic of thinking - I really do not think the spamming the forum with a response post by the tip bot is necessary. Sending a PM to the tip sender should be good enough.... my 2      *10^18 brownie.pts

Let me put it from a marketer's perspective.
Currently, it "serves" to (our) best interests that the bot is making those posts. The idea is to get the culture of tipping integrated into the forum.
I'll try and get a stats page so we have metrics to judge in terms of how the number of tips are growing.

Having that said,
Yes, its ugly as fuck to have the bot post all over the place. As the number of tips increase and people increasingly tip (which they luckily are), I believe we should take it down.

It really is about building that culture. Once its in, we can probably have it pruned or integrated via  a buttom and (pm) only.
I understand your frustration on the spam, and I see where its comng from.
We'll soon plug it off - preferably as soon as we are off beta.

And yes, those compliments are worth a bit considering how rare they are.

Crossed 100k in exchanges. From what I've noticed 10-20,000 Bts exchanges go smooth without crashing prices much.

165
This is so cool.
Wait, never mind.
We already have this.
Plugged in to existing exchanges too.
check out electrons.io

Yes, am shamelessly advertising it.

They are talking about Atomic Chain Transactions, directly from chain to chain, not needing a 3rd party for that. You're providing a bridging service using exchanges from what I understood. It's different. Chain to chain transactions could be what ultimately bring decentralized exchanges to cryptomasses if only they could keep up with the speed and make it user friendly, which I think wont be possible for quite a while.

You're right. What we have right now is the first iteration of what could possibly evolve into a true cross chain exchange platform. For instance, currently we support only going from Bts to Btc with a preset value driven from exchanges, but ideally, a platform should allow multiple currency pairs (bts : nxt, nxt : quora: , doge : nxt) etc with its value driven relative to btc rates.  Cross chain transactions are indeed very interesting and its something we really need to look into.

By no means am I undermining what they are building  and I apologize if I came off that way :)
