BitShares PTS / Re: "Protoshares is a CPU-mined coin"

Great answer,  but not not the answer to my question :)

Since Protoshares brought 'wild' suggestions in the world that it is impossible to mine it with GPU. People invested alot of money in the mining for CPU.
Yet, 3 months later it's GPU minable! That whole "Fair Mining" is gone in the wind and was based on nothing else then bullshit.

I really wonder what the dev's behind PTS are thinking, since their #1 claim appears to ba a lie.

Thats why I asked this question again, what is backing the PTS coin now?
Because it already losts its core value and the coin value was cut in half!

Not to forget the Mining Guide (link: Official PTS mining guide - It's all digitalocean, first it seems ok.
Then notice how their is a refferal code in their link to Protoshares. SOMEONE IS SOMEWHERE MAKING ALOT OF MONEY FROM US!

I'm pretty sure that PTS is actually a scam where ALOT of people fell into.

Dude common, it's not even relevant...A (big) bounty was brought up just to see if it it could withstand GPU mining, of course there are people going after the bounty and try their best to 'defeat' it  and yes they succeeded but it's certainly not like GPU mining has taken over. I suggest you read up on what this all is about and what the people are doing here with passion and I'm sure you'd change your opinion instantly. Seems like you just wanted some quick 'n easy cash while 'investing' $20 but didn't work out and now your looking for someone to blame.

so you can still mine pts? I just downloaded the qt and I do not see how you mine. There is also a link to a mining guide on the invictus.io website that does not work.

The mining option was removed from the wallet, it was not optimized but did what it could in the beginning. There are lots of optimized miners available now (both CPU/GPU) with x times greater speeds, just sign up with a mining pool, install the miner software and you're good to go. There are lots of topics about this , a good start would be here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?board=11.0

There's not really a difference besides others will see you're a founder which could increase credibility, you start with some reputation points, they never expire and you'd have a chance to bid on the name you'd really wanted before anyone else registered it. The regular id's can be mined and can expire. But in the end it depends on the person behind the name what's it worth.

I think it should either be completely independent of the local bitsharesd instance because it makes no sense to visit/login to a site if you can just fire up your local software. Another way is to have bitsharesd act like a webserver which can be reached

I think there are a few options here and I'm willing to work on any of these

  • Option 1: Incorporate bitsharesd rpc api and let the site just handle the communication and calls between you and your local instance. Trade updates can be either rpc'ed from the client or at a centralized point and pushed to the clients
  • option 2: Same concept but instead of a centralized platform let the user download a ready-to-deploy instance of the platform which he can hosts himself somewhere. Maybe it can be added to option 1, it's platform in depended since it can all be done in javascript and some static html pages

[edit] I'm sleeping over the slick option 3, be back tomorrow with a detailed implementation suggestions [/edit]

Random Discussion / Re: Blackphone - What do you think?!
« on: January 22, 2014, 11:27:27 pm »
Don't know exactly how it will work, secure phone calls will go via voip I think? It's a nice concept and the phone looks sleek as well but I have to read up about it to better understand their plans since I think all this can be done with a rooted android phone as well but a bit more cumbersome. Maybe it's more a phone to make a statement.

Random Discussion / Re: Why are you investing? What do you dream of?

I can only speak for myself but these are my main incentives:

  • Being part of something which has a great potential to change the world, or at least change the way we think of companies, banking and other everyday internet activities.
  • There's lots of innovation inside 3I and although there's innovation in other companies as well I really have the feeling that they have the team, funding and mindset to make things happen. They stand for their ideas and not just looking to make some quick bucks
  • These ideas open the gate for new ideas and there's just so much opportunity for everyone
  • Money wise not so much, sure I'd be more then happy to make some money but I'm more in it with an entrepreneur vision then investor vision.

General Discussion / Re: The Argument Against Bitshares

Yeah you're all right, what I meant was people in general who sign up, post nonsense and then never show up again leaving a bad impression for others who might just stumble on that particular post. Of course criticism is good but for a first post it's kinda odd.

The OP registered on January 20th, has exactly one post, but has been able to take up Bytemaster's extremely valuable time just prior to the major Miami initiative.

The spurious argument needed to be refuted because it appeared here. But we need to find a way to prevent further wastage of valuable resources, perhaps by keeping newly registered posters in the Newbie section for a period of time and a number of posts.

Good idea, happens more often these type of things. Or maybe disable posting abilities for a few days , or disable new registrations and continue with the people who're on it now and re-open when things are rolling. Maybe a bit harsh but sometimes it seems like people getting paid to write crap :p
