This was very positive surprise. I've heard that many merchants were not interested in bitcoin because it didn't work with subscription based business models.

General Discussion / Re: OneCoin ...

OneCoin has the best blockchain ever! I was curious and tried to find out how it exactly works and this is that I managed to know:

Block time is ten minutes and block reward is 10 000 onecoins (this is not going to change). Amount of onecoins is limited to 2 100 000 000. So that means all onecoins will be mined in four years.

Apparently they don't have transaction fees. So after four years there are no incentives for miners to maintain the blockchain.

General Discussion / Re: How Well Does DPoS Really Work?
« on: June 07, 2015, 05:41:22 am »
This leads me to believe the majority of our community is focused on trading and profit rather than the underlying facilities that allow that to occur. It makes me wonder if the voter apathy and overall lack of concern about the fundamentals of DPoS indicate an inherent weakness in its viability as a mechanism to sustain an effective and efficient crypto ecosystem.

Should we focus on the quality of the shareholders?

Cryptoworld is full of people who just want to get rich fast and do not care how the projects will work in the long run. I think we do not need these kind of people as shareholders, because they will not vote, or if they do, they will mostly vote for short term profits.

We need more shareholders who are actively interested in developing BitShares to be the best blockchain in the long run.

Technical Support / Incentives for shorting?
« on: March 11, 2015, 04:39:43 pm »
MPA's will be created when somebody thinks that the price of BTS is going up. But what about in the bear market? What kind of problems might follow if lots of people who usually short lose their interest to do that?

Are there any other incentives to create MPA's?

General Discussion / With Decentralization, Where is the Money?
« on: March 08, 2015, 07:14:27 am »
Nice article at CoinDesk: With Decentralization, Where is the Money? (although no mention about BitShares)

Quote
If we are to strictly follow bitcoin’s first principles of decentralization, then very little to no money should be made by the centers.

Bitcoin, the system, is itself the quintessential decentralized and autonomous ecosystem today. And its center is poor, because it is non-existent as an entity. All of the revenues/profits are being made at the edges of the bitcoin network.

So, if we are to mirror bitcoin, we need to stay true to its decentralized characteristics and properties; not just as a matter of principle, but as a matter of operational integrity.

As it evolves, decentralization is not something that is categorically there or not there. It’s not a black or white situation yet. There are different flavors, shades and degrees of decentralization. It is becoming something we aim for and reach over time, not overnight.

I just found BitShares a little while ago and have been skimming through the forum to learn more. It seems that BitShares is really something totally new that nobody else has done before, so only way to go forward is through trial and error. It is always easy to say afterwards that "we should have done things differently" but at the time of making those decisions, it's impossible to know what is the optimal way.

I'm actually quite impressed how well the developers have handled difficult decisions. Of course it will always give some distress to investors when plans are changed on the fly, but in the long run it is propably the only way to make sure that the end product will be great.

you guys are playing with the master of devil's advocacy  ;D
Sorry, I'm just a noobie myself too, so I'm using your thread to try to understand for what BitShares is good and for what it's not.  :P

The problem of indexcoin with BitShares is that there will be also other portfolios. It is hard for me to see a reason to buy indexcoin if I can buy S&P500-MPA or a portfolio of ten most valuable metals.

But I guess it might be possible to find a niche market for people who think that there will be a handful of cryptocurrencies that are going to be succesful. Maybe those guys would be interested in indexcoin. But I'm guessing that's not a very big market.

If you want to change the world, go and spread the word about BitShares. It is a tool that can be used in a different ways to empower people and help them to break the chains. It can do so much more than just a portfoliocoin.

I wonder if bitshares is really for you.

If you create indexcoin to bitshares exchange, you should have some incentives for people to start using it. In bitshares there are many other assets that would be competing with indexcoin – so what is the advantage of indexcoin compared to others?

If your most important goal is to create jobs and businesses, why not focus on a project like OpenBazaar? One really interesting area of development would be usage of market pegged assets in OB.

General Discussion / Can I use UIA to start a club?
« on: February 28, 2015, 11:04:07 am »
Newbie here, trying to figure out some real world applications.

UIAs would be like shares of a club. More shares somebody has, more voting power he has to decide how the club should be run.

Initial sale (for founding members) of UIAs would give the club some resources to rent a club house and to buy some furniture etc (or whatever they want to do).

If the club will be great and members really like it, it will attract more members. One could become a member by buying shares from somebody else, or the club could issue new shares.

The club could store it's assets as bitUSD to get rid of volatility of other cryptocurrencies.

What would be the best way to fund the club's ongoing costs like club house rent? Is there an easy way to collect membership fee automatically? Some money could be made by issuing new shares for new members, but that's probably not a good thing to do all the time.

What other benefits a club would get if it's run with UIA?

Somehow I happened to find Bytemaster's blog and it got my attention because there was lots of interesting and intelligent stuff. Especially his understanding of economics and incentives seemed to be way better than of many other altcoin devs.
