These funds were donated for development and marketing. Is it too much to ask for transparency and accountability? If this is a one-time grant for past work then it would make sense that it was given without any precondition. If it is intended to be part of their ongoing compensation then it makes no sense to hand it out all at once. I was led to believe that all of the dev funds that are allotted for future dev and marketing work would be divided up and simply granted to the devs. We may never know what the plan is. We'll just have to watch the blockchain and take our best guess ...

Angel funds are donation and I3 clearly stated many many times that they could use it as they see fit, for some reason you always completely ignore that part in every accusation you make ... talking about biassed
However
Out of all your post in this tread this is something that I agree with and should be pointed out, even though no strings attached to angel funds, clearly communicating  how they will be spend I think it is important.Given that they were and are very open to every decision they made ( perhaps too open),  I firmly  believe they probably were planning to announce it eventually.

Isn't this entirely clear?  To recognize outstanding performance and reinforce the status of four of the industry's most accomplished developers as independent agents, furthering our goals of complete decentralization at the developer level, and strengthening their ability and motivation to live off a single delegate's salary until such time as the market cap quadruples raising those salaries back to their current modest levels?

In the end, we promised to use our best judgement.  This is our best judgement.

This is very clear and I very much agree.
The only problem is we learn it only after Alphabar started up this tread, witch, as we can see could lead to confusion and false accusations.

I'm not arguing against transparency or accountability.  I'm just pointing out that you constantly phrase things in a misleading manner.

Completely agree

BTW, being the new leader of PTS, when do you plan on giving us your real-life identity ?

Hmm I'm really curios too...

I'm not sure if this is correct . My understanding is that the toolkit has the core technology in it, so you got DPOS, you got the market, the peg mechanism,Titan, etc. Now of course  you need to modify it if you want to make a different DAC. I.E Bithshare Music although it has a completely different business model is basically BithsareX with very few changes AlphaBar PTS same think. HackerFisher could confirm if PLAY it is using the toolkit to make the DAC.  So given the fact that  it is open source and already a few DACS are using it I think we can call it the DAC framework.

I'm not sure either.  Forking a program and modifying it isn't really what I'd call a toolkit, but understandably Dan couldn't have terribly accurate foresight when trying to come up with a plan in the early days.

Thats the problem though, the core technology is there and I don't think much will be added to aid the toolkit itself.  I'm not sure how much documentation was ever created to enable the use of the toolkit either. So what will the BTS DAC have done to help the toolkit ?  From any of my observations, it will have done nothing if not made it worse.

Anyway, these are just thoughts of mine.  I was fairly angry when a lot of this was announced but now is not the time to be divisive.  If I was pissed off enough I would have taken my stuff and went on down the road to life's next interest.

edit - AlphaBar-PTS  seems to be about as far along as RandPaulCoin which appears to be nothing so far.  Everything else you mentioned has had explicit i3 support on some level.

Maybe "toolkit"  it is not the right word and the original idea was to0 ambitious , I see it more like linux kernel, you have the core of the technology then you are free to adapt it as you want.

I agree about the documentation, big problem there, but given the fact this is still very early development, this might change if the technology is proving itself witch I think it does. The problem is adoption as long as nobody knows about it could be the best idea and stay idle forever.  It is a Catch 22 situation right now  I3 don't have the resource to do documentation, tutorial, examples etc  so therefore they need more 3 party DAC developers but for now not many could use it because not enough documentation...

True AlphaBar-PTS and  RandPaulCoin are nothing yet but the good news the intention is there. I see talking of DPOS more and more outside this forum like Zennet supercomputer they are thinking about DPOS too, so I’m hopping those are signs that the word take notice and this will help the toolkit tremendously.

Will there continue be such a toolkit?

Was there ever a toolkit ?

I'm not being a smartass. I'm confused at your response.

There was a toolkit, right? I'm asking will it continue exists.

Correct me if I am wrong but the toolkit was always the first DAC, bitshares X.  So then DNS came around which seemed like something reasonable to fork instead, but it was never named "bitshares_toolkit".  The problem is beyond a few utilities here and there, it isn't much of a framework for creating DACs.

I'm not complaining as I've accepted these changes etc, but if BTS expects sharedrops instead of PTS/AGS, then it seems to me they should do something to help enable third party DACs going forward.

I'm just curious what the community thinks of this line of thought.

General Discussion / Re: Advice wanted: Pay rate for developer delegate
« on: November 05, 2014, 07:18:23 pm »
As a counter point consider this:

1) svk has clearly demonstrated he can produce a great product and is cautious but not unfriendly to the open source concept.
2) svk has demonstrated a long standing and unflagging commitment to BitShares.

What does he get for this? A pay rate that starts at 80% - 100% rather than, "Start at 10% and if your work looks good campaign a new delegate at a higher rate".

IMHO his compensation for past work is paid out over the time it would take an unknown developer to get from 0% - 10% up to 80% - 100%.

I guess my feeling is that even if svk said "hey guys I'm moving on with other things in life and won't be working on bitsharesblocks anymore" and said he would open source it and hand it off to someone who wanted to takeover.  Even now we know he won't be working on it anymore and we have the source I think we should STILL do what we can to provide fair compensation for past work.  Because of fairness and because of the effect on anyone else that might be considering putting in time to help this community.  I think it's a good precedent and we have a unique ability to centralize funds on behalf of shareholders instead of just tipping.

If they only knew Bitshares exist :

Quote
When Alaska voters go to the polls tomorrow to help decide whether the U.S. Senate will remain in Democratic control, thousands will do so electronically, using Alaska’s first-in-the-nation internet voting system. And according to the internet security experts, including the former top cybersecurity official for the Department of Homeland Security, that system is a security nightmare that threatens to put control of the U.S. Congress in the hands of foreign or domestic hackers..

All your work it is outstanding. So I'll say for all you did already and for future development I think 100% pay rate it is fair.

Empty out all fiat reserves and go into BTSX NOW.

Aright  let's do it  !!!

149
Well the idea has merits, but it may not be the right time to do it.
Call it KeyID or call it DNS as a third party DAC but please don't associated with the original Bitshares DNS. Right now Is is already confusing as is it and will hurt your DAC and it will hurt Bitshare too.

Actually third parties DAC forked from Bithsare toolkit is what we want   because this was the original vision of I3,  so KeyID and PTS DPOS are welcomed, but probably this is the worst moment because it will only add more to the panic and confusion.
Please keep working on this and when the time comes we all be all ready to welcome you  KeyID.  So keep on doing the good job bitcoinerS, you got toast support this is great.
