Random Discussion / Re: Accessing forum over TOR increasingly harder

I'd rather refresh 5 times than filling those ******* captchas here as well. Unless you browse with Tor regularly, you have no idea how annoying these are.

I'm not sure if I follow. So it is the faucet that is creating the account as public?

If this is so, then I don't see how to avoid linking one of the non-titan accounts with the new titan-account (as a consequence of funding the new titan account from a previously created account with a BTS balance).

Also, could you provide a working example of an invocation of that command? It seems strange if [] denotes the parameter being optional.

I've had to re-download the entire blockchain at least 6 times now, excluding the next one (upon upgrading to 0.7.0, most of my balance simply vanished..), had the program repeatedly crash, it's hung on some random block while syncing countless times...

You're doing something wrong.  I've had Bitshares installed since release and I never had any issues. there were maybe 3 minor releases where it wouldn't sync and they were patched within a day or two.  The transition from 0.6.2 > 0.7 > 0.8 was flawless too. Maybe you're using unsupported OS?

Pretty vanilla Ubuntu, installed just for this 8)

Technical Support / Incorrect TITAN instructions in wiki
« on: April 01, 2015, 01:33:43 pm »
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/TITAN#Terminal_Mode

I ran the command, went to the faucet manually and registered the account, then enable_raw and blockchain_get_account .. and type: is public_account.

Would anyone know how to create a titan account?

Technical Support / Multiple wallets supported?
« on: April 01, 2015, 12:32:54 pm »
I'm thinking of separating accounts logically in wallets. Through the console it seems to be possible, though I am still finding out the necessary commands.

Does the GUI support operating like this as all ? Through 'Import wallet', I would suppose.

Ok, that settles that. Seems there's a lot of outdated info out there (wiki, old blog posts).. perhaps we should address that, it can be confusing to newcomers.

Thank you guys for the replies.

We are doing a Wiki Wesnesday tomorrow, wanna join us?

Sounds fun. How to get in?

Technical Support / Re: Two simple questions
« on: March 24, 2015, 06:06:05 pm »
Thanks xeroc for your answers. I've got a few more questions/observations from these,if you have the time:

I believe the GUI should a) give the user the option of titan vs non-titan, and b) have a very clear, per-account visual indicator of whether the account is TITAN-enabled or not. The documentation scattered around in the wiki is tricky on this aspect, and http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/TITAN#GUI_Mode is very unclear about the fact that the account, when created from the gui, is not TITAN-enabled.

As for deleting accounts, come on now. This strikes me a bit like treating users like children. Hide it behind an advanced mode and a confirmation dialog, sure, or ask for the password to confirm the operation, but it ought to be possible.

What would be the most straighforward way of moving accounts between wallets now? I mistakenly created 3 extra accounts when starting out, and they do little else but clutter the display. I believe this procedure essentially boils down to exporting the private key for each account and then importing on the new wallet.. but I couldn't find any howto.

Are there any special considerations to have with TITAN at all? Would I need to back-up the wallet after receiving funds with TITAN accounts?

So far, so good. Much faster than 0.6.0!

Thanks robrigo, I will wait for 0.8.0 which should be right around the corner and then give your suggestion a try :)

All software has bugs, but we cannot ignore that with all the marketing/promotion being done, getting new people onboard who then immediately become disillusioned with the instability of the software is not going to give any of us any plus points.

You know, I work in IT as well, I can appreciate the complexity of what's being made here.. I build more complex stuff for a living. But when really simple stuff goes south/does not work as advertised, and does so repeatedly... I mean, no exaggeration, I've had to re-download the entire blockchain at least 6 times now, excluding the next one (upon upgrading to 0.7.0, most of my balance simply vanished..), had the program repeatedly crash, it's hung on some random block while syncing countless times...

Essentially, the sort of stuff one'd hope the developers figured out while testing/doing QA. It seems hard to miss such issues!

Technical Support / Two simple questions
« on: March 23, 2015, 08:11:04 pm »
Here's a couple of Q's that have been on my mind the last few days:

- Is it possible to delete accounts from the wallet? If yes, how?

- Is it possible to convert non-TITAN to TITAN through the gui or cmdline ? Any major downsides to using TITAN accounts? [why is it not the default?]

Technical Support / Re: No BTS balance - version 0.7.0

first check if you are 100% synced, if yes
right click your mouse and click on "reload"...   8)

I figured it out. But I can guarantee you 99% of the average users you are targeting won't. What happened was that client has received blocks from the old version, so the new version couldn't continue with the blockchain. Wiping the chain folder worked, but that meant I had to re-download entire blockchain.

My point though is that this is super disruptive and happens all too often. Downloading the entire blockchain took a day. If I needed to make an urgent trade within the "decentralized exchange" I would be screwed. Luckily I am not relying on it.

To me it's not disappointment as much as frustration. I've played with a lot of altcoins, several of them with much added functionality, and the amount of bugs has been a) minimal and b) nondisruptive.

And in general, over the years I've messed around with alpha and beta quality software, development/HEAD, and simply have not run into half the trouble I've had with BitShares.

For the time being I'm still on the boat but serious doubts are beginning to rise. I would definitely NOT recommend BitShares to anyone right now; I have the motivation and patience to work things out, most people don't, won't, and at any rate, it'd be silly to expect that of them.

The QT wallet seems to be alpha quality at best right now. Maybe I got the wrong impression, but I thought it was somewhat ready for general consumption. It isn't.
