General Discussion / Re: BitShares TL;DR. Explain in one line
« on: November 11, 2015, 11:49:44 pm »
But my feeling is Graphene exchanges demand a new word.  They're completely unprecedented as a noun.
The name "DPOS 2" is not helping either in describing our consensus structure; we might need a new noun for that too.

Throwing ideas:

- BitShares is like Bitcoin with fiat-pegged token and on-chain trading.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin with better anonymity and less volatility.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin with built-in referral program.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin with human-readable account name and less pollution.

- BitShares is like Bitcoin with voting on who produce blocks, every elected block producer is profitable.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin with every Blockchain-Clone sharedroping on BTS holders.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin with better decentralization.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin with faster transactions.

- BitShares is like Bitcoin but instead of burning 1M$/day of electricity, the money is spent on paying elected dev and high performance elected node.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin but for financial contracts.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin but for traders.
- BitShares is like Bitcoin but instead of giving the power to the miners, it's given to the token holders.

It depends on who you are talking to.

I would like to have a deeper understanding of the benefits you have as a Lifetime Member account.

Do you get back 80% of the fee paid for creating an Asset ?  ???

Since we don't have the resources to build something like that, we need to make it easy for third parties to interface with the api and hook up their systems.

At the very least the api should be made as friendly as possible for people wanting to write bots..

I'm glad I don't have any LTC...

Something bad happened. Confirmed reports someone bought at 1.5CNY, sold at 19CNY, bought BTC and withdrew then had their account locked.
OkCoin lost the entire orderbook for LTC, some 200Mil of LTC traded in <30minute bar. Liquidation occurred to 0.01CNY and now OkCoin is trying to reverse trades. They are in the process of altering their history right now with the charts miraculously reversed to 19CNY.
Something bad happen, that's for sure, I wonder if BTC is next.

Can't prediction markets be implemented using private bitasset markets?

Yes, they are already supported just need the GUI to manage it.

In that case lets go prediction markets if it is easier.

Prediction Market will bring more value to BitShares ecosystem atm imo

First 2.0 referral program is up and running.
In order to participate you need to refer users to bitshares.org, openledger.info or bithsares.openledger.info domains and pass your account name (account needs to be a lifetime or annual member) via r= parameter.
You will collect either 60% (for lifetime referrer account) or 30% (annual member) of all fees paid by each user that registers by your link.
Example of a valid link:
Code: [Select]
https://bitshares.org?r=youraccountname
Thank you!   :D

Technical Support / Re: Withdraw BTC
« on: November 02, 2015, 09:55:36 pm »
The "BTC" asset on BitShares markets is the same kind of smart contract (SmartCoin) as for "GOLD", it's a smart CFD. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contract_for_difference
The "TRADE.BTC" and "OPENBTC" assets are UIA from gateway, they are redeemable for real BTC.

So if you want to withdraw BTC from your wallet you need to exchange your 0.203 BTC (SmartCoin) for BTC UIA from a gateway (OPENBTC or TRADE.BTC).
Then you can go to (Deposit / Withdraw) in your account to withdraw your BTC.

TLDR; Go to https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/exchange/trade/TRADE.BTC_BTC - SELL your BTC for TRADE.BTC - Withdraw

General Discussion / Re: QA needed in the GUI deployment process
« on: November 01, 2015, 04:18:20 pm »
What I propose is introduce QA (Quality Assurance) in the GUI deployment process by making community testing an integral part of it.
We could implement it in these simple steps:
(1) A new GUI release is announced on the forum and then made available on a dedicated (non-public) URL.
(2) We test the upgraded GUI and give feedback about any new bugs found.
(3) Devs fix those new bugs.
(4) After all bugs are fixed and no new ones are found within the next 24 hours, the new release is deployed on Open Ledger.
+5% and available for testing on win8
