General Discussion / Re: NoirShares Launch in 8 hours, don't panic.
« on: February 14, 2014, 04:32:29 pm »
Why is it called Noirbits 2.0? Is there a 1.0 version, what happened to it?

Noirbits was my first attempt at crypto, most of my ideas turned to dust around the advent of multi-pools, the scrypt algorithm made it difficult to operate. NRT and NRB 2.0 where just ideas that i was bouncing around trying to get a feel for implementations, depth and viability. While some concepts were scrapped the accepted ones were merged into NRS, while it can be classified as an alt, it also is set to be the only accepted exchange medium on services that will be deployed once they are ready. As some are aware i have been tossing the idea of seperating crypto-currencies from the Bitcoin peg, to this end there is a serious pursit towards an exchange for NRS PTS MMC 2.0 and similar cryptos that will deal directly in fiat currencies, without need for conversion to BTC.

NRS, PTS and their derivatives are stand alone entities that need not be pegged to the value of BTC, they transcend the run of the mill cryptos in the way they are meant to be for more than P'n'D.
As a show of the dangers of reliance on the established hierachy of exchanges and the cross-conversions required, please look at this chart :-http://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/btce/btcusd  one false statement from Mt gox has turned the BTC Price into a yo-yo.

Why a DAC candidate and why the separate forums?

I think of it as a DAC candidate as it meets the D and C parts, the A part however is not true for the structures being built around it. As a Investment group, the NIG will act as a trunk from which ventures will sprout grow and evolve. Many of the ideas behind this strategy are similar to existing ones, but the implementation is different. The NIG will have a tangible footprint in the world as time progresses through investment into many areas of commerce. While the first few will mostly be crypto-industry linked and related, the hope is to expand beyond the crypto world, and instead of just cycling money between involved parties, the intention is to begin taking active steps to foray into everyday life of the average person.

More details on the workings of the NIG will be available on the noirbitstalk.org forum.

General Discussion / Noir Investment Group : NoirShares
« on: February 14, 2014, 04:05:42 pm »
NoirShares is the first hybrid Momentum PoS/PoW crypto. Momentum algo has memory hard qualities which make reduce GPU mining advantages.

The combination momentum Proof of Work with a Proof of stake implementation serves to guard against 51% attacks. 51% attacks are situations where a person or group holds hash power equivalent to 51% or more of total network hash. This allows them to double spend their shares through a first spend then overwritting the valid block chain with their own longer block chain. Proof-of-stake block generation reduces the risk of 51% attacks because the cost of acquiring 51% of all stake would be much higher due to having to buy at least 51% of all shares in existence, that and the cost of acquiring 51% of all mining power makes the cost of attempting and attack prohibitive if not down right imposiible as the price per share will rise as people notice the demand. In some cases other miners and traders will halt sales just to wait out for the highest price, thusly making it even more complicated and nigh impossible to achieve 51% control. In a 51% stake attack the attacker's investment would be directly at risk of losing value. By contrast, with a 51% mining attack on a pure PoW implementation  the attacker would still own the mining hardware which could either be sold or used to mine a different cryptocurrency following the attack.

These measures serve to secure the network also in that users are inclined to keep their nodes online in order to generate stake.

As proof-of-work blocks become less rewarding, coin generation becomes increasingly based on proof-of-stake block generation which in of it's own is energy efficient and requires less resources. Thus protecting the chain from attackers becomes far less expensive.

NoirShares Features and Parameters

Doubles as both currency and equity for the NIG group.

80 shares per block initially

Per block difficulty adjustment

~ 5 million coins will be produced via PoW

5% block reward reduction every 3000 blocks

Minumum Stake age is 7 days, full age 14 days

Tx fees are 0.01 NRS are destroyed in an attempt at aggresively countering inflation due to mining and stake

As the chain progresses and transitions to relying more on PoS blocks, it becomes highly energy efficient in comparison to pure PoW coins. This weaning of reliance on high powered machines encourages the average user to be able to have a functioning node that if used properly can be profitable.

Posts will run concurrently here and on noirbitstalk.org

Details on NRS as a DAC candidate will be posted here and information relative to the Noir Investment group will be posted @  noirbits.org

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares and anonymity
« on: February 14, 2014, 03:07:37 pm »
Agree. I am a little worried that the crypto space will either be completely anonomous or will make complete survailance possible. Both is horrible with different cases for society as a whole.

A case where complete anonimity is obviously bad: Someone goes short on a company's stock -> attacks this company (bombing plants, injecting poison into food the company produces) -> takes profits anonymously.

I think most people and reasonable officals like Benjamin Lawsky see it the same way. It is a balance and extreme positions to either side will have more extreme disadavtanges than advtantages.

Goal imo must be to distribute power as much as possible. Extreme positions to either side will fail here.

Communication and working together with officials and an open PR policy will help to walk this fine line between complete anonymity and survailance.

I believe the fact that I3 has a corporate structure will help a lot here.

I have been pondering this issue for a while and have come up with a possible structure that maintains decentralization and  anonymity while allowing for a few points of reference. My own venture while having many similarities to DACs has an actual physical footprint, the risks, costs and profits involved are possibly huge so i've thought of using a "cell" strategy. It looks like a possible option to dealing with many issues that are limiting the crypto-space, for instance, by de-coupling central management and using user consensus, policies, strategies and changes can be adopted in an audit-able yet nigh untraceable way. pseudonyms are encouraged to protect all users. I am currently trying to figure out a method of one-time use deposit and withdrawal scheme for the exchange i am working on that will ensure that once a user confirms withdrawals and deposits of their fiat, their personal details are destroyed. Regulations here state that you must do KYC, but there are no post KYC regulations, as a result it is up to me whether to store or "lose" the data.

Technical Support / Importing Balances
« on: February 14, 2014, 12:16:22 pm »
 am trying to import protoshares balances into a chain. I found the following pieces of code:-

Quote
std::map<std::string,int64> getGenesisBalances(){
   std::map<std::string,int64> genesisBalances;
   // ProtoShares balances, these will only be included if i get the method right
   ifstream myfile ("genesisbalances.txt");
   char * pEnd;
   std::string line;
   if (myfile.is_open()){
      while ( myfile.good() ){
         getline (myfile,line);
         std::vector<std::string> strs;
         boost::split(strs, line, boost::is_any_of(","));
         genesisBalances[strs[0]]=strtoll(strs[1].c_str(),&pEnd,10);
      }
      myfile.close();
   }
   return genesisBalances;
}

then

Quote
if(pindexBest->nHeight+1==1){
   //Block 1 - add balances for beta testers, protoshares
       std::map<std::string,int64> genesisBalances= getGenesisBalances();
   std::map<std::string,int64>::iterator balit;
   int i=1;
   int64 total=0;
   txNew.vout.resize(genesisBalances.size()+1);
   for(balit=genesisBalances.begin(); balit!=genesisBalances.end(); ++balit){
      //printf("gb:%s,%llu",balit->first.c_str(),balit->second);
      CBitcoinAddress address(balit->first);
      txNew.vout.scriptPubKey.SetDestination( address.Get() );
      txNew.vout.nValue = balit->second;
      total=total+balit->second;
      i++;
   }
   printf("Total ...%llu\n",total);
   }

now i am trying to figure out the structure of the genesisbalances.txt required

is it meant to be like this

Here's how the first 390 are being spent. This was based on me and barwizi scanning over the last month of activity and doing our best to be fair. Let us know if we missed something big.
The remaining ~100 will be used to pay for the next two weeks and to correct any injustices in the current payout.

Will update this post with the transaction when I get to it (today)

It seems like their should be 150 PTS not 100 reserved for the next 2 weeks given it was an advance on future work and not to pay as a bonus for past work... just saying.

Good point, I will scale down appropriately so all will receive 340/390ths the amount I listed

so there is the possibility of a bonus? nice!!

MemoryCoin / Re: Electrum for Memorycoin

Hey, is it possible if someone with a little technical background, after getting this to work, could use the py2exe application (http://py2exe.org/) to simplify all this into a single, standalone executabe? Like they have on the original electrum download page.

This is a great idea. Is there a similar packager for the Mac?

Also the install for Android looks very daunting. Is it achievable in theory to package everything required into a single .adt - or even distribute through the Play store?

For Mac, Yep, I believe it says I'm the package description on the front of the package repository.

Android install depends on a library Google does not allow on the play store, so no.

what does this part do? self.headers_url = 'http://xpool.xram.co/blockchain_headers.bin'

when i use the link in a browser it attempts a download, the websit it'self is a XPM pool

altough unrelated, i now have a functional PTS PoS coin.

i now have time to pay attention to Bounties again.

Nice... details?

the basics, are it uses the BTS PTS version of momentum. It's already complete and has been tested a few times now. I just finished writing the instructions for modifying it both basic and advanced. It can be used for BTS initiatives as is since it includes a custom license that tries to mimic the draft SCSL.

So its PoS
Momentum
Highly customize-able
Easy to modify and deploy.

 :)

Now it just needs a valid use.

Very interesting... but it looks like it is using POW to decide the longest chain?

yes, it uses PoW for that, i'll think on the PoS  could you point it out please?

Technical Support / Re: malleability
« on: February 12, 2014, 03:47:21 pm »
Mtgox uses a proprietary version of the code with modifications that suit their needs, however due to shoddy workmanship and failure to update their client to be line with current standards, there is no malleability issue strictly speaking.

In realizing their problem they decided to profit off the issue by falsely announcing a bug in the code...the bug is theirs, not the standard code. Their public announcement was a stunt which has put them in disrepute by those who have an understanding of what happened. Also you'll find that they fail to mention how much $$$ they made by causing market panic and huge price shifts. This is one of the reasons many developers are actively pursuing decentralized exchange solutions, to avoid market manipulation on such a scale. If BTC-E was to have "problems" the market traders would panic and it would result in only profits for the exchanges as they profit not really from price but from volumes.

Perhaps someone else can weigh in.

i'll read the article but i doubt there is much to their unfounded announcement.
