If they really have $53MM, they should take a few million and hire a real marketing / PR team.

Nice! Last node release was when we updated to 2.0, right?

The number of pairs with non-empty orderbooks is, in practice, a small fraction of N * N-1, right? What does an efficient implementation of finding all non-empty orderbooks that include a single symbol look like?

Here is the correct answer if you believe in math:

All of them

Never put all your eggs into 1 basket is more than just an ancient parable, but a math equation based on the probablity of every one of your eggs getting simultaneously (in this lifetime) stolen.

Are you implying splitting up funds into different wallets, secured in different ways?

It seems to me that, mathematically speaking, if the probabilities of funds getting stolen of the different methods is not equal, then, compared to just using the most optimal method for all, you are actually increasing the chance of some of your funds being stolen. I guess the problem is that we don't necessarily know what the probabilities of theft are for each method.

Something else to consider with brain keys- you basically always have your funds "on you", which means they can be revoked from you via violent force (i.e. torture). Therefore you not only have to keep the brain key secret, you also have to keep secret that you have a brain key at all. Maybe have two brain keys so you can give one away as a decoy.

Another thing- you should know what is the decryption method needed to obtain your private key. 20 years from now, software and wallets can change, and wallet generation methods may change as well. If you know though, that you just need to take the SHA256 of your 16-phrase mnemonic (for example), then as long as you have access to a computer you can obtain your private key.

They're probably running their own node. I wouldn't be surprised if they ran into memory issues, as currently the needed memory scales up linearly with the total number of blocks. You currently need over 12GB of RAM. There's an issue about it here: https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-core/issues/192
On a full node the memory requirement is now around 16GB, but why is that an issue? You can have servers with 516GB, and I am sure Poloniex can afford a server or 2 for BTS (if they set it up right, they should have a full node with a delayed node).

You're right, it shouldn't be an issue, but it still could be one. They have 60+ wallets they need to maintain, and probably have them all sandboxed for security reasons. BTS might be the only wallet that have these high memory requirements, and yes they can afford it but they probably didn't start with that much memory. If the wallet daemon crashed, they may needed to re-index the whole blockchain again on a new server instance, which can take a long time.

I'm just speculating, as this happened to my node recently, and I had to deal with it.

I have been thinking about switching to a brain key. Memorize 16 randomized words, never have to make any backups. Besides the obvious risk of forgetting your phrase, what would be the drawbacks of this?

Do you have a good reason for wanting to move from the desktop wallet to the web-based wallet?

Hey,

Can you add support for the RUBLE Smartcoin please?

Thanks

Edit: My favourite market pairs keep getting erased :(

What do you mean? You just change the URL directly to access them

General Discussion / Re: BlockPay in Serious Trouble
« on: May 27, 2017, 04:06:36 am »
I think the solution here is obvious... Time to remove Chris from the equation and redistribute a new blockpay token without Chris.  Ken can do this by creating a new token... Whatever value blockpay had has been destroyed by Chris for what seems no good reason.

I would trust ken, the man who I bought the OPENPOS token from and has shown me real results, over some scammer kid who's Daddy is a lawyer

Are you suggesting to screw over all BLOCKPAY holders? Or are you talking about some kind of sharedrop minus Chris? If that's the case, watch Chris' account for any movement... Can anyone else smell the karmic irony?

What does "membership_annual_fee" affect?

Does this also lower witness pay?

Well, OpenLedger must have actual MUSE to back those IOUs, right? Where did they get or claim those?
