Muse/SoundDAC / Re: Bitshares music blockchain
« on: July 25, 2015, 04:44:41 pm »
I'm still curious what other projects people think  that could be built on top of the MUSE blockchain. Beyond PeerTracks what do you guys envision coming from this new blockchain? I'm seeing a lot of great ideas tossed around for what Peertracks could accomplish but I'm wondering what people see this turning into if this project is as successful as it could potentially be.

Leaderboards for who is the biggest fan (owns the most artistcoins of an artist) is a must.  People will buy coins to try to get themselves to the top.

This is actually a brilliant idea. Its like you could go as far to create a social network for people who hold coins and connect with people with similar interests.

I like the fact that you are reaching out to the community for ideas on this. I think the built in community is what will help set PeerTracks apart from the rest. I think the initial target market is crypto hipsters. How many of those exist is a mystery. I for one would fall in that category. Music nerds that love crypto will be super excited about this.

That said it's definitely a chicken or egg problem. If there is not a large selection of music that the casual music listener wants then what benefits does this service offer them? If there are no users then what incentive do artists have to add their music to the service?

Why would Taylor Swift want her catalog added to PeerTracks? I feel like you need to run with the Fair Trade Music idea and market towards educating artists on why this service will be better for them. Record labels will still need to exists but this creates an opportunity for artists to receive much better deals. It will take some time before this really can catch on.

Back to the topic, I saw the secret sauce post and really like where this is headed. There have already been a lot of great suggestions in this thread. I personally want access to all the analytics of streams. I think all the blockchain streaming data will be amazing and there will be lots of great uses for that. If you end up making that a part of the manager/agent/booking agency package that would be interesting. I wanna be able to use a map and see what bands and genres are popular in certain areas. I don't think you need to charge artists. There needs to be every incentive for them to sign up and use the site and offer their records up for streaming. If anything start out by charging a small fee for premium accounts to crypto hipsters that lets them have more control and access. I would pay for that even if there is not a lot of music on the site just yet.

Muse/SoundDAC / PeerTracks has competition

The artist Imogen Heap is working on a blockchain based music service. Its called Mycelia...

You may know her from this song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYIAfiVGluk

Ms. Heap acknowledges that we’re some time away from “solving” the problem, but Ms. Heap’s vision – a project she refers to as Mycelia – for how this change might come about is the most fully-formed I’ve yet to hear from anyone.

Very interesting interview.
Goes on to say
Watch this space, Imogen Heap is primed, and it’s about to get interesting.

The whole interview can be found here

It's a two part interview. Part one does not get into how this system will work. Basically says that the music industry is going to implode in about five years in the future when artists get sick of the awful deals they have been dealing with for all of time.

Then goes on to discuss how this blockchain cryptocurrency idea where artists will all be connected will be the most treasured database of all time.

Pulled this from the the rethink music report.

RETHINK MUSIC
TRANSPARENCY AND MONEY FLOWS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

A database of accurate rights ownership information,
like the one we have proposed, could form the foundation
of a similar cryptocurrency log. In addition to rights
ownership information, the royalty split for each work,
as determined by a mixture of statute and contracts,
could be added to the database. Each time a payment is
generated for a given work, the money would be automatically
split according to the set terms, and each party’s
account would instantly reflect the additional revenue.
For example, suppose a song is purchased from a
digital music store, such as iTunes. After the store takes
its cut, for ease of demonstration, we will hypothetically
assume the revenue generated by the purchase comes
to US$1.00. This money would be split between the two
different works contained in the song, with a 9.1 cent
mechanical royalty going to the musical work, and the
remaining 90.9 cents going to the sound recording. Next,
if the contract between the publisher and songwriter
specifies a 75/25 split of revenue from downloads, the
publisher would receive 6.825 cents and the songwriter
would receive 2.275 cents. With an identical split at the record label,
The label would receive 68.175 cents, and
the recording artist would get 22.725 cents. The blockchain
network could also further divide this 22.725 cents
between the members of a band, if applicable.
This entire process would take place in less than one
second, allowing all parties to access their money
immediately after it is generated. Further, this payment
system is fully trackable and would ensure that royalties
are not held by third parties, such as labels and publishers,
before being passed to the artist and songwriter.
This would eliminate concerns about accidental or
intentional underpayment of royalties.

“The reason I’m not doing it," Wallach says, "is because I don’t want to spend a decade on it.”

We are 18 months in and very close!

Man that is awesome! So excited for this project. Cob, care to comment on if you have seen any signs of competition in this space? It does seem from what has been released from you guys so far that you are light years ahead of everyone. That said I can't wait to get my first artist tokens. Keep up the great work!

Several startups are already working on early versions of the idea, says Barry Silbert, a prominent investor in Bitcoin, though none are ready for prime time.

Anyone know the names of any other projects working on a blockchain-based royalty distribution system besides peertracks?

Yeah I also think that using the name Muse needs to be reconsidered. Muse is the name of one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. It's almost like naming the blockchain Metallica. I feel like it's just asking for unnecessary trouble.

Muse/SoundDAC / Where did Cob's PeerTracks post go???
« on: June 15, 2015, 10:44:34 pm »
Been looking forward to reading that all day and... It's gone

25
This is a very good question. Peertracks will also be funding moon wallet but to what extent I am not sure. If moon wallet does not meet it's goal will peer track cover the rest?

26
I still don't get this part of the website.

FREE ALL ACCESS MUSIC STREAMING ONLINE OR OFFLINE

How will streaming be profitable if it's free and without adds?

That said I think it's cool what you are doing. I still just wish there was more of a product to present to people and something a little less confusing then what it is now.

27
Hopefully he is just to busy working on a bunch of awesome stuff

28
Yeah, I think what you are doing is great but I don't think it's time for that yet. We need to wait till there is a better product to present to the artists. Things are really heating up in the battle to be the best streaming site. We don't want to put ourselves out there till the time is right.

There is still nothing that comes close to what peertracks can offer the music industry. Tidal is a joke and Jay Z thinks there are millions being spent on a smear campaign against the service. It's just simply the fact that it doesn't bring anything new to the table. Exclusive songs are no match for token controlled access. The world still has no idea what blockchain technology can accomplish.

tl;dr
Peertracks is not ready for the masses. When the time is right than we shall contact all our favorite artists.

As far as I know there are no confirmed artists that will use it.

Muse/SoundDAC / What artist token are you most excited for?

I would really love to see Deftones release an artist token on peertracks. I would buy up a ton. Would be totally awesome to get into shows for free and get discounts on merch. Maybe they would call it Defcoin.
