Openledger / Re: Openledger down?
« on: March 18, 2016, 01:23:44 am »
OL still not working for me. sucks, i'd like to get a batch of trades in before calling it a night. we shouldn't be talking about subsidizing liquidity if we can't even get people to the trading platforms. OL bugs really need to be fixed before we spend time on other projects.

I saw this the other day in BTS:BTC. Thought about sweeping everything below feed, but it got me thinking.. why is there for the taking and nobody did it?

Maybe it is because they wouldn't be able to sell it back.

So I didn't touch it. A lost opportunity, perhaps >:(

looks like you have more opportunities :)

If I settle, do I Settle at feed price or at prices at the dex´s order book?

I have been buying well below the feed price for a while lol

my understanding is that you settle at the feed price (aka the settlement price), which means that if you purchase anywhere below that you can lock in a guaranteed profit by settling. Settlement takes 24 hours, though; I'm not exactly sure if the settlement price you lock in is exactly what it is when your transaction hits the blockchain, or the settlement price 24 hours when it closes? @JonnyBitcoin do you know?

Where are the other market makers? I was surprised waking up today to see our USD, BTC, and SILVER markets with highest bids well below settlement. For the first time that I've been trading these markets I actually requested settlement just to try it out. I've closed the gap for these markets, but it looks like we're seeing an evolving (or maybe temporary) chance to make money simply buying below feed and settling like @JonnyBitcoin mentioned earlier.

Technical Support / OpenLedger Wallet Still Extremely Buggy

Is anyone else having issues with OL? I'm still getting the APIs randomly disconnecting, orders expiring without being posted to the markets, etc.

General Discussion / Pricing in order confirmation window
« on: March 17, 2016, 02:29:54 pm »
Another UI fix would be to adjust the price in the order confirmation windows to be quoted in the same asset base as the market. For instance, we can view any of the markets in either ASSET-BTS or BTS-ASSET --i prefer using ASSET-BTS to normalize them all to a BTS base; however, even when i'm viewing the market as ASSET-BTS, for some markets (e.g. BTC-BTC) automatically show the BTS-ASSET price in the trade confirmation window. This is confusing and sometimes leads me to post trades at the wrong price bc sometimes the automatic fill in the Buy/Sell windows reverts to the the last trade.

A good fix would be to ensure the confirmation window posts the quote in the same base unit as the market we're trading.

General Discussion / Re: Why are we deprecating Annual Membership?
« on: March 16, 2016, 06:37:02 pm »
i was considering buying a lifetime membership, but then fees were slashed suddenly the present value of the membership collapsed. that's a great thing. our network/system gains huge value from minimal fees, more transactions, more use of our products than it does creating for-purchase methods to recoup fees ex post.

Blocktrades.us is confirmed back online. Just bought some more BTS.

General Discussion / Re: Subsidizing Market Liquidity
« on: March 15, 2016, 07:11:02 pm »
Absolutely .. the problem is that there are so many things moving and it is next to impossible to get the big picture of what those that discussed in the threads have agreed upon ..
If you put that into a few paragraphs ... we can get this into a nicely formated BSIP quickly!

i agree, plus these threads become quite long and tough to follow, especially for important topics.

General Discussion / Blocktrades.us offline (updated: online)
« on: March 15, 2016, 06:56:52 pm »
Does anyone know why?

Also, shapeshift.io still lists BTS as offline.

Any trading is good trading IMO, whether it's on our DEX or in another exchange. Each has pros and cons. one big benefit of external markets is that we benefit from their internal network of traders and their liquidity. it doesn't make sense to favor one or the other IMO bc they're not mutually exclusive. i'd welcome the NASDAQ open up for BTS trade :)

General Discussion / Re: Imagine that...
« on: March 12, 2016, 02:22:43 pm »
I agree, we need something solid first so then we can start building stuff around it. If the core isn't working as it should, it doesn't matter how many features we have.

yup, i'd just add that with i think we already have something solid, we just need to develop and maintain a culture of continuous improvement.

General Discussion / Re: Thought Experiment
« on: March 12, 2016, 02:20:58 pm »
Two rules i think solve this problem nicely:

#1 the company should consider this a marketing experiment and A/B test it repeatedly with different mixes, evolve the solution to what seems to be working, keep evolving, never settle on a fixed bundle unless it's just wildly successful and can't be improved (as determined by limited continuous testing).

#2 Use a liquidity-weighted choice mechanism. the seed test case can start with the top 5 most liquid smartcoins/assets, but consider the number and types of assets in that bundle to be up for experimentation. Maybe the firm considers its UIA as a fixed element of that bundle, but that doesn't even have to be the case, and i'd recommend they experiment with and without it.

No one knows a priorit what the best mix would be, and i imagine it's different for each customer. this type of learning algorithm can evolve to segment customers by types and generate bundles best for each type. Also of importance is that the firm and its analysts will learn from experience the effects of each of these giveaways on the markets.

This experienced has surely happened to many other users, specially during this surge in price. During the exact time we can't afford to make mistakes like this.

This, so very true

well, i've been complaining for a while now about the trading experience being buggy. sometimes it gets so slow that i give up on placing new orders; the danger, however, for me, is that sometimes the market moves so fast that i'm stuck with outdated / horribly priced open orders, but the interface is so buggy that i can't even cancel them without sitting there re-clicking the same button for a half hour. i have a strong vested interest in seeing Bitshares successful, but for new users experimenting, i can see this being a deal breaker.

Yesterday I tried to show OpenLedger to a friend of mine and unfortunately he wasn't able to register. Also when I checked the market pairs the tables for bids and asks weren't showing, only something related to settlement. I wanted the tables to appear so he would see the entire layout.

I was really disappointed honestly, he was the person who introduced me to crypto and he only got interested in BitShares later because I've always explained him what was going on and giving updates.

Yesterday when I finally had the chance to show him OpenLedger, the situation above happened and got me really disappointed. I was saying hoe he should see 2.0, how better and smooth it is than the previous version and then that happened.

This experienced has surely happened to many other users, specially during this surge in price. During the exact time we can't afford to make mistakes like this.

Like our fellow chinese members say: it's a shame. I got frustrated.

that's entirely unacceptable. i've also been touting Bitshares as the best blockchain out there with lightening speeds and an awesome p2p exchange, but lightening speeds for the backbone mean little to a new user who can't get through the UI.

there are some OL bugs being fixed this weekend, but improving the UI and overall network speed/efficiency should be a never ending, very well funded project.
