MAXIMUM SUPPLY 100,000,000,000

I know that it's set to the same value for other smartcoins but is there any technical or practical reason to limit it to 100 billion? Can it be changed later?

Bitspark is planning to create some bots (https://blog.bitspark.io/bitspark-and-the-future-of-zephyr-roadmap/). How would you cooperate?

Quote
Trading Bots: In addition to the above, the Bitshares DEX can benefit from additional trading bots. These bots should undertake trading strategies which benefits Bitspark’s overall goal of executing remittances on-chain via the DEX without leaving Bitspark vulnerable to exchange rate risk. The easiest of such bots are market makers for similar UIAs like the above aforementioned Bitcoin UIAs. These bots will take both sides of the trade and list orders at a cascading order book depth to maximise opportunities. Additional triangular arbitrage bots would be another useful addition given the increase in available pairs with the gateway.

However, making these bots accessible to the general public and also ensuring the public is aware of lucrative opportunities on the DEX is important, therefore Bitspark will Open Source all trading bots and provide additional infrastructure for monitoring, arbitrage and trading opportunities on the DEX. The additional monitoring and promotion can be in the form of notifications on the Bitspark website, gateway, mobile app and social media channels with constant monitoring of markets providing customers simple information like “3% Buy opportunity on bitUSD/bridge.BTC available now”. The more people aware of these opportunities, the better orderbook depth for Bitspark remittances.

General Discussion / Re: How would one trade bitUSD/USD?
« on: November 23, 2017, 11:30:09 am »
Sure, there is direct USD/OPEN.USD market: https://wallet.bitshares.org/#/market/USD_OPEN.USD

One thing that you could do is this
  • you deposit (a lot of) USD to Openledger and they issue OPEN.USD to your account
  • you somehow buy (a lot of) BTS (probably USD -> BTC -> USD)
  • you create bitUSD using your BTS
  • you start a trading bot that will be continuously buying and selling bitUSD/OPEN.USD with reasonably small spread (to cover BitShares fees, OPEN.USD asset fee 0.2% and Openledger deposit/withdrawal fees)

One issue is that bitUSD is perceived as a better asset compared to OPEN.USD so people might completely ignore this market.

Have you tried to do it using Uptick? http://uptick.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

General Discussion / Re: btsbots wallet release v0.0.1
« on: November 16, 2017, 12:12:53 pm »
That's awesome. However, I was not able to install it on Fedora because of https://github.com/ludbb/secp256k1-py/issues/22. Can you help with this?

52
Exactly! And to fix this, we need to fix margin trading mechanics, which is awkward in BTS. Then, all those margin traders will hopefully come from other exchanges and issue a hell of bitAssets on us.

Any specific suggestion?

IMHO the only real problem is the lack of liquidity... and we are back to chicken-egg problem. At the moment I could buy 2126 bitUSD at feed price +3% and sell 835 bitUSD at feed price -3%. Can we increase these numbers to 1 million on both sides?

Its not as user friendly as other exchanges.

We have awesome developers who can fix it but you need to be more specific :)

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares as an "off ramp"/bitUSD
« on: November 02, 2017, 08:06:32 am »
1a) Regarding exchange itself, it serves as your wallet and you own private key so it's much better than other exchanges. Make sure that you follow best practices so that you stay safe (use only on safe pc, strong password, backup wallet safely).

1b) Regarding assets, Open.BTC is an IOU issue by OpenLedger company. There hasn't been any major issue with this company in the past but make your own research, risk is similar to holding BTC on other exchanges. bitUSD is completely decentralized and trustless. In theory it's very very safe but still there might be a bug in software or a systemic failure (like total collapse of EU/USA economy) might cause that it starts behaving unpredictably.

2) I would guess that it will be dramatically lower when selling BTC for bitUSD, might be similar when buying Open.BTC back (it's 0.2% for OPEN.BTC, not sure about Coinbase).

3) If you don't want to completely cash out of crypto world, BitShares is an awesome platform.

 +5% +5% +5%

I would add another one:
* testnet.bitshares.eu runs version 160106 of UI, upgrade to something newer

Recruite a team of developers able to implement your ideas and create a worker proposal...then the real discussion will start ;)

You didn't fix it, you suggested an alternative. lower collateral requirements might incentivise shorters but it would make BitUSD less safe.

Less safe, but probably still safe enough to not worry. It all depends on details of implementation. Who said that safety threshold is at MCR=1.75? Why not 1.5? Still far above 1.

At the moment, there are only two MPAs with relatively big supply - bitUSD and bitCNY. What about decreasing MCR for these two in small decrements, e.g. 0.05 every 6 months? Both bitUSD and bitCNY survived latest big price decrease, after hard fork it would be even safer.

It's much better to post exact block with burn because account history in OpenLedger will disappear soon.

Bitspark [closed] / Re: Zephyr token is launching soon

@George_Bitspark, please don't post the same message into 3 threads. Good luck with launching the token.

Would such a change require a BSIP and/or a hard fork?
