General Discussion / Re: BTS Wallet?
« on: August 31, 2016, 12:23:57 pm »
Hi Barnstrom, Welcome :)

You have actually shown up at a great time as having your BTS off the exchange and in a local wallet will give you a share in the Peerplays project!! the snapshot period starts on the 1st of Sept and goes to the 16th of Sept; at some random time within that period the Peerplays team will take a picture/snapshot of everyones current account balances and allocate them a share in the Peerplays network proportional to the amount of Bitshares you hold... So nice timing :)

Which Wallet?
In Regards to your question: i personally use the Bitshares lite client available at:https://bitshares.org/download/ (installs to you computer and uses websockets so no need to sync the blockchain) - i really like it and i would recommend it for you..

Other good options are https://openledger.info/ and https://secure.freedomledger.com <- both of these are webclients and run within your browser

Which ever of those option you choose; it will walk you through backing up you wallet when you first register an account; make sure you do these steps and save your wallet in a secure location; also don't forget your password.

How to Withdraw BTS from Polo
When you withdraw from POLO you will be asked to provide an account name; this is the username you registered when you signed up to Bitshares; if your not sure goto the 'SEND' tab and look in the from field; this is you current account; it is possible to have multiple accounts in the one wallet and if this is the case you can go to the 'HOME' tab and look at the accounts sections.

Once you know your account, goto POLO, hit withdraw, enter you account name and the amount of BTS you wan to withdraw (Start with a small amount say 5 or 10 BTS just to be sure; then once you have confirmed that it works you will have confidence to withdraw as much as you like).

The above will work for all native Bitshares assets I.E BTS, BitUSD, BitCNY ....

What is the Deposit tab then?
The 'deposit'/'withdraw' tab within the wallet will allow you to send in other asset that are not native Bitshares assets (other digital currencies that are not Bitshares related; Doge, Steem, Bitcoin...); for example if you send  'DOGE' to the address specified under the Openledger tab; Openledger.info will issue your account with Open.DOGE <- this is known as a UIA and is effectively DOGE coin backed by openledger on the Bitshares network; so you could hold/trade/transfer your Open.DOGE on the bitshares network and then when your are ready to withdraw you would do so on the withdraw tab and specify a DOGE address; openledger.info would then exchange you open.DOGE to DOGE on a 1:1 basis.

Hope this helps; remember: make sure you backup; don't lose you password and start by withdrawing a small amount just to make sure you have the hang of it!!

Cheers,
GC

Great effort Xeroc!, got my 2fa TX done; had to have a few goes at it before i worked out what was required; place i got stuck are 1st and foremost skimming through the original OP.. ;/

i initially thought it would be similar to what arhag suggested, propose TX from 2fa protected wallet and then approve via email to have peermit sign and finalize the TX, i guess the issue here is if i have owners authority of that account and the wallet was compromised then as the 'owner' it can just disable the 2fa ; and pinch my precious test coins. - is that correct?

once i had a better grip on what was needed, i missed the '+' button on the email similar to roadscape, seem the register button just need a check to ensure that email address is present (i.e the '+' button has been clicked)

Account:
REF:j0shy
SECURE:j1mb0

then i proposed a TX from j0shy which transferred 1234 test from j1mb0 to j0shy. i received an email at sharklasers email account (getting pretty excited at this stage ). clicked link, verified the token; and waited in j0shy account for something to happen... nothing; then from j0shy account i viewed j1mb0 account and could see a pending transaction awaiting approval from j0shy (this maybe more protocol level but isn't the fact that j0shy proposed the TX infer that he also approves the TX??). Clicked approve and added authority from J0shy accepted WOOHOO! :)

seem like a few steps involved to get it functioning but it works and is very cool :)  +5% Xeroc!
looking forward to seeing if there is a method to simplify the process similar to arhag suggestion i.e send from account, verify with link in email, done. but again i think the issue here is if the account has owner permission it can just disable 2fa before stealing the coins..

Thanks I found the approval section in plain sight, not sure what was going, I think it may have had something to do with lack of sleep :).

2FA :) woot woot!!! awesome news, looking forward to playing with that, i will reserve my questions until it is released and i have had a go  +5%

You guys are doing great work!, when the rest of the world wakes up I'm sure you will look back proudly at these early days :)

Cheers!

OMG!!! - is it nearly here?

I noticed that in the testnet we have proposed transaction which actually propose's transfers on a second account, also notice that if i have granted account 'a' permission higher than the threshold to account 'b' then account 'a' can transfer funds from account b - it works no issue :)

if i 'propose' a transaction from account 'a' to transfer fund from account 'b', then account 'b' is notified about a proposed transaction initiated by account 'a', but i cannot find how to approve this transaction... any ideas?

either way i'm pretty excited :)

Their proposed card sounds really cool (BM as a wizard with a book of Graphene magic), but they are asking for input from the community, either to add the the card proposed above or others such as an idea reflecting on DEX, Voting, Speed etc..

Just posting this to make sure members know about it; as it is in the Marketing section which at least for me is not in my frequently visited list.

Low vol on a pull back is not always a bad thing - no ones selling :) when the volume comes back it should be from buyers

the price will only go up only and if again some nice whales create $1 mil worth bitassets by locking some collateral and daily volume is more than $4 mil for at least a week.. until then it will just be pumps to $20 mil market cap and dumps to $7 mil market caps..And if these nice whales don't create those $1 mil bitassets then eventually bitshares will be dumped to zero..I am sad.. :(

I think you are sad.. try this -> relax bro! :)

think of the powerful platform that exists... right now.
we need the markets to be liquid enough and you have the ability to move value from gold, silver, USD, CNY in seconds for fractions of a cent!. think of the real world cost of doing these transaction and the process and time required; once you have moved these values your can send them any where in the world; in a system that elect block producers and cannot be bought out by leasing/buy a shit ton of hardware, and a process where the stakeholders actually have a say in what direction we take - what BTC doing these day - i don't know but that's what worries me, not Bitshares.

i look forward to the day i can buy a MPA of a stock in another country or commodity like orange juice or coffee without brokers, commissions, and crazy settlement times

I have no secret knowledge, its just the way it looks to me.

but either way in my opinion price going down is not great for getting people to look at the project, price going down signifies a dying project / lack of interest. everyone close to Bitshares knows we have great value in what we hold but sadly it takes effort to understand that, and in a world with some many cryptos you need something to drive you to look at a project, for me it generally not seeing the price move downwards.

if price goes down sure some people might buy shares but i would think they a more speculators doing so on centralised exchanges and will not even look at the client, the DEX, protocol or other offerings. if prices rise people might be interested enough to find out why it's moving up and what makes it tick, after which, if the price was to move down again maybe they would consider becoming a larger holder.

Just my thoughts,
