General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion
« on: September 07, 2015, 11:17:07 pm »
is the next wave up potentially starting soon?

Could anyone who uses Elliot Wave theory post a couple of pics showing how they depict the wave in the current market? possibly a few time scales showing different wave magnitudes?

i know it may very from person to person but when ever i try to learn; it looks fine on the chart examples in the tutorials, then i flick over to the real market and my progress goes out the window. just looking for an example in real time that's close to my heart..
also if anyone is using this can you suggest some complimentary indicators that you look at as well?

if this can be done it would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks
GC

Thanks for your help Xeroc and Jsidhu :)

i couldn't quite get this statement below.. Sorry :/.  i see that interest is actually paid in BTS not BitAssets but how is the interest rate derived.

Quote
Shorts pay an interest that amounts for a total of X bitUSD (X BTS @ a price per USD) ... Y bitUSD exist .. hence you distribute X bitUSD among the Y bitUSD in existence (early percentage)

in the above are you saying that i have to pay an interest rate based of the amount of BitUSD i shorted/created in proportion to the current amount of BitUSD in existence? like a weighted average of the network interest rate?

or

is the above pictured interest rate the actual annualized interest rate i pay on the shorted BitUSD? - seems fair the tool tip says "the interest rate you are willing to pay"

Again sorry for all the question, just want to make sure i understand the mechanics of this before i put it to rest.
i hope other people will also get benefit from reading this.

in any case it seems like you are happy that situation b is a good move to collect interest while still retaining all your Bitshares.

Thank you,
GC

Hi Guys,

Thanks you kindly for your responses;
I have read a bunch more posts and the wiki and hope that someone could please point out any issues or misunderstandings in the verbose situation below.

##############################################
I short 1 BitUSD at price of 350BTS/1BitUSD @ APR(interest) of 1% p/a; this will lockup 2 * the price (700BTS) as collateral in the network as assurance.
The action of creating a short lodges a sell order for 1 BitUSD @ 350BTS on the market.

Situation A)
Alice buys my BitUSD she now owns 1 BitUSD and the 350BTS she paid is also locked up in the network (now collateral = 1050BTS)

Situation B)
I buy my own BitUSD short now I own 1 BitUSD and the 350BTS I paid is also locked up in the network (now collateral = 1050BTS)

##10 Day Later##: The price of Bitshares has risen 100% against BitUSD and I wish to cover my short position.

Situation A)
I purchase the initial 1 BitUSD + 0.000273973 BitUSD (10 days interest =((0.01/365)*10) * 1 BitUSD) + 0.005 BitUSD (transaction fee) that I owe to the network at the market price of 175BTS/1BitUSD and 'cover' my position which destroys the 1 BitUSD I have and releases the 1075BTS collateral locked up in the network; Therefore I have made a 174.077054725BTS profit after paying the transaction fee and 10day interest)

Situation B)
I still own the 1 BitUSD I brought from myself so no need to purchase BitUSD at market to cover position. Therefore I have not made any capital gain on the back of the price increase, but I may have made some % in interest; (BitUSD interest is ~5% p/a for holding BitUSD and a cost of 1% p/a for my short position); Therefore my net profit is 4% - 0.005 BitUSD (transaction fee)
##############################################

Questions
-Is the interest paid on short positions an average of all short position in existence similar to the interest paid for hold BitUSD? or is it the rate which was specified when creating the short sell (1%)?

-If the above is correct and interest is based on the rate specified when creating short sell, Situation B seems like an attractive way to hold BTS while also pulling in some interest from the network... yes?

Phew..
For those of you still reading, Thank you very much for the time in considering the situation above.

Cheers,
GC

Sorry for going i couldn't stop myself. please choose your 3 favorites and run with it

#1 Dan is not a fly by night crypto dev, he has demonstrated his passion by being around since the age of Satoshi! (and chatted with him - what an honor)

#2 Bitshares is restructuring it back end which will make developing application for Bitshare 100x easier than it is at the moment.

#3 Bitshares will be moving to a web based wallet which will significantly reduce the barrier to entry for new users. (i know people i have introduced to bitcoin were happy to setup a counterwallet - but no chance in running a full node!!!)

#4 The full power of Bitshares has not been released even in the testnets.. we have had confirmation from Bytemaster regarding features that are not yet visible - my feeling is they are relating to upcomming announcement which will be huge :))

#5 Bitcoins average actual TPS is only about 3 (based on the size of the last 1 million Transactions) not the quoted 7 and 10 minute block confirmation in a high speed world is too long... 1,5 or even 10sec blocks on bitshares is amazing

#6 DPOS - no mining and the ability to elect block producers and remove bad actors quickly via voting.

#7 Bitshares is settings it self up to become the rails of exchange networks, which in turn will bring exchange based users with actually business that needs to be preformed while providing the users with much need security over their own funds and transparency of the reserves in the assets the are trading. - this also brings in revenue to Bitshares on the back of transactions and profits/incentives for companies/partners.

If all that is not enough the price is just about the lowest it has ever been - lowest point i can see was back in may 2015 ~1400sats... also looking at the distribution on Bittrex we can see some big players sucking up millions of Shares(on a tiny exchange -BTS wise) - i can tell you that the largest wallet at bittrex at the moment was not there 3 months ago and couldn't imagine the wallet sizes of PoloniEX.

-Was jcalfee there?
Yes from what i can see he connected pre-hangout and disconnected sometime after the hangout completed and made 4 text comments during.

No Worries Fuzzy, Anytime.

Also I couldn't see a couple of guys (below) on the list; not sure if you have them under another name or shared account but thought i would mention it.
-jcalfee
-Vrontis (not listed in your 'after' screenshot but i cannot see a disconnection message within the logs - so i believe he was there for the entire chat.)

-Was jcalfee there?
-Vrontis does not have a bitshares wallet to my knowledge but I will inform him of the opportunity.  :)

Interface looks very slick and fast!

Is Dynamic Permission functional in this test?
I can see the interface and add threshold and accounts; although it looks like i cannot publish the changes to the block chain.

IMO this is a killer feature and cant wait to test it out!
