General Discussion / Re: Cryptofresh API
« on: September 04, 2016, 06:30:00 pm »
The cryptofresh explorer has been broken for some time. Maybe @roadscape is finally fixing it. I did send him a message to his bitshares account. The bitUSD and bitCNY volumes have been showing a bit fat ZERO on Coinmarketcap.com for quite some time, which is clearly false.

Hopefully he is fixing it. Otherwise we need to make a new block explorer. Preferably 2-3 and quickly.

no use complaining here, we need to take action. Maybe open a worker proposal to make a new one if cryptofresh is not back up in a day.

In the meantime, lets be clear, the explorer having difficulties does not mean anything is wrong with the blockchain. Bitshares is working perfectly as usual. If you need to see some transaction go through or watch the chain you can access the explorer on OpenLedger or the bitshares light-client.

He was not under any obligation to give steem to bitshares holders. Don't be sad about it. Anyone could have bought steem when it was 15-20c

Dan is very fluent on economics. His ideas are usually ahead of time. Remember the very first whitepaper on DACs? He recognized quickly how blockchain technology can be used for so much more than mere money. And he quickly created a transparent plan how to pull it off.

He managed to create the idea, form legal framework for it, build up a team and deliver the perfectly working platform.
His work is a 99,99% success. Unfortunately for us this great accomplishment have not translated into shiny coins, yet.
Probably due to bitcoin winter at this time. Maybe this summer will be different. :P

Hopefully it will get traction, we will get rich and accusations stops from happening.

Compare Dan's work with Ethereum Foundation's for example. They were much luckier with timing (after bitcoin winter). They started later, incorporated Dan's ideas for free and with loud campaign how revolutionary the change of one letter from The DAC to The DAO can be they siphoned almost 150m usd for the effort.
While The DAO was a complete fiasco BitShares DACS works and are super fast and stable.
Still not seeing any difference?!

yeaaah bashing Dan is easy cause he's kinda a nerd. But actually BTS is superb. This is why satoshi went dark after creating bitcoin. Dan gave us bitshares 2.0 with all the cool customizable UIAs and MPAs, the exchange, ect like satoshi gave us the blockchain. The difference is we now know who and where he is so he has to face all this haranguing and "scam-calling".  lol. Satoshi's a genius. (so's Dan).

I can't wait to see the further adoption of BTS: crowdfunding, BlockPay, Peerplays, Cadastral (what?), OpenLedger, FreedomLedger it's a growing beast and as soon as people realize it's all built on BTS the luckier they will be. (I'm going to be watching V for Vendetta and watching the world change on Nov. 5, my fav holiday, oh damn I'm in England now, that means people actually do celebrate Nov. 5! cool.)

I think you misunderstand. You say "the problem of witnesses and workers selling their BitUSD for BTS"
This is actually the benefit.
Witnesses and workers would most likely sell their BitUSD to others, this means there would be a bigger supply of BitUSD for others to buy.

Hokay. Let's Econ 101 this shit. When USD is collateralized 3x that value in BTS is now illiquid. If the market wants to hold X amount of USD then, in the long run, they will. If a bunch of bitUSD is being created (from the reserve pool) that pushes the price of bitUSD down (from 1.10 to maybe 1.02) giving less incentive for people to "short" the USD. Then the supply of liquid BTS is higher.  Maybe the demand is also lower, if people are buying BTS in order to short the USD. BTS price falls.

“All my economists say, ‘on the one hand...on the other'” "Give me a ONE-HANDED economist!"
-Harry Truman

So, on the other hand. Maybe the demand to short USD vs BTS is relatively constant and those people are going to do it regardless. So, with a bunch of bitUSD being created, pushes the bitUSD price down to 1.02 and then more people buy it? hmm. Increases bitUSD marketcap... hmm.

I like you saying that when someone settles the bitUSD the collateral goes back to the reserve pool, I hadn't thought of that.

I have bloody Preston Bryne (@prestonjbryne) on twitter saying

"@KendallDix The only comment I'd make is that BitUSD volume is so weak that we should say that market is well and truly dead."

so annoying. He's wrong but I have to say something like no, he blockchain explorer is just broken. lol. not very convincing.

@xeroc we need to get in touch with him. Do you know any other way besides the bitshares forum? Perhaps a new blockchain explorer may be in order. This a foundational thing. If I can get in touch with @roadscape I'd be happy to help him maintain the site. I'd love to learn.

General Discussion / Blockchain explorer
« on: August 17, 2016, 08:33:27 am »
I think to be a legit and sexy crypto we need another block explorer. I know cryptofresh is cool but it's lacking some basic charts like "supply over time" also the volumes are not correct (at least for bitUSD:BTS).
Also, just a good idea to have a backup explorer.
I'd like to be involved in the creation of this blockchain explorer. Who wants to guide me?

Maybe it's because BTS is awesome? No no, that would be too reasonable. As we know markets are irrational, it's gotta be something else. Hmm.

Perhaps have worker proposals contracts "we'll pay you 50USD in value each day" but make the 'value' in BTS.

As far as I can see this wont relieve selling pressure on BTS and it would increase the inflation.
1.1. To create 1 bitUSD it takes 3x BTS, which means we'll be putting 3x BTS into the total supply.
1.2. If workers want to sell their earnings, they will. If the demand for bitUSD is X then it will stay the same. Workers can and should trade their payments in BTS for bitUSD as they get it, now that would relieve selling pressure, increase liquidity and ensure the workers' compensation is fixed.

If the blockchain collateralized bitUSD into existence then where is the collateral? To me it seems the blockchain voting and payment can only pay in the core token.

Would it really encourage traders to trust the system more if liquidity was provided by automated process rather than real activity? I suppose it might actually... but to an already complicated (but amazing) platform to add further complexity and a complex hard-fork seems like a bad idea.

What we could really do is fix the damn blockchain explorer showing ZERO volume for the bitUSD:BTS pair. That's an easy fix to generate more volume! Let's use the thousands of dollars already there! As traders start using bitshares to store value safely or to short the USD we wont have to worry about problems like this.

when posting steemit links use a URL shortner. :)

Just seems crazy to pay interest in "open" assets. I'm sorry Ronnie and @mf-tzo , but wouldn't it be best if the whole operation was done on the blockchain? Seems totally obvious if you're going to pay interest it should be in BTS. Instead of paying interest in BTS and selling it to CCEDK.... unnecessary complication. Then people can decide whether to keep it as BTS or buy an Open. asset as they choose.

basically, please pay me BTS.

General Discussion / Re: The connection of bitshares and steem
« on: August 13, 2016, 07:38:03 am »
I think Bitshares will always be the place that Steemians can go to store their 'hard earned' value. Because Bitshares is not inflationary like Steem (at least much less so, especially after NOV 5) it is a better way to collateralize shorts and create a variety of assets and smart-assets.

Imaginine if more smart-coins were brought to steem... the collateral would always be slowly falling in value (if no new users and investors were coming to the platform) and eventually the SteemDollars will take the collateral and pay off their holders (just like bitshares will automatically do if the collateral falls to almost less than the value of the smartcoin). It would be pandemonium.

So yes, I think bitshares will always have value. It would have been nice if Steem had sharedropped on Bitshares like peerplays is doing.

I've been puzzling over this issue for the last few days and weeks.
The bitUSD:BTS volume shows 0 on coinmarketcap. I wrote to them about it and referred them to cryptofresh to get the correct numbers, but then I check and the USD:BTS volume shows 0 on cryptofresh too!!
This is clearly wrong because I've been generating volume on that pair. lol. Also I can see in my BTS wallet that the volume is 1.47M BTS or 6.7K USD.  Adding this volume would bump the bitshares DEX up in the exchange volume rankings on coinmarketcap. One day I expect it'll be right at the top.

Please fix this as soon as possible! Anything I can do to help let me know.
