I think there is an issue with the site's width. It seems to be a relative width design, which is nice, but on Firefox on my 13'' Mac with a full screen browser window, I am getting a side to side scroll bar which is making the user experience really bad. Please check the relative width parameters.

General Discussion / Re: Emerging Narratives
« on: March 21, 2014, 05:43:00 pm »
The why is important but there are better ways of doing that than demonizing what exists. Talking down the opposition shouldn't be necessary.

You might consider that Governments are nefarious, others might disagree and might appreciate their efforts; and yet you would both agree on what is being done here to progress what is possible.

If such narrative was written as a positive, to acknowledge how empowering the individual is liberating, it might go down better than kicking those who 'control us'?.. Even just abstracting it to the idea of how third parties are inefficient, might do better than tending to a typically libertarian slant and talking of 'others imposing the will of the majority by force'. There's no point in alienating half the political spectrum - just give them the tool that changes their reality and they will learn from that positive. Challenge what they hold dear and you'll scare them into wondering what viewpoint they are supporting.

2¢ - I would prefer that we're politically neutral, as that's less likely to meet resistance.

General Discussion / Re: BitShares X Status Update

Can you update the OP with status updates rather than just adding to the 500+ comments? Or just start a new thread, pin it and un-pin the old ones. The message gets convoluted in-between the on and off-topic replies.

As a matter of fact, you shouldn't even allow us to reply to your updates. Just let everyone start their own thread with their concerns or questions.

Perhaps using a system such as the gTLD from ICANN: http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/about/program

And creating categories based on geography or industry.

I believe every country has heavy insurance regulations, not just the US.  Please enlighten me on why you think this won't be a problem?  Trust me, I hope you have a solution.

What aspect of insurance is regulated?   Is it the taking of funds?  The investing of funds?  The estimating?   Remember, this system is no more an 'insurance company' than Bitcoin is a currency.    Who is providing the insurance?   Who is promising to pay?  Who under this system has any obligations what so ever of a contractual nature that would constitute insurance?
I wondered if it might be an idea to think of another name, i.e. not "insurance". If its a fundamentally different system, it maybe deserves a new name, but in so doing this may lead to the natural creation of an appropriately different regulatory framework outside that of classic insurance. As no doubt, someone somewhere will start to try to regulate it. For many people, the word insurance has a negative connotation, so this was another reason for this suggestion.

It think Bytemaster already gave it another name: Mutual Aid Society.

This name has some interesting connotations and could serve it well.

It simply means there was a PTS donation to Angel Shares.

General Discussion / Re: Let's think about this

There is a GUI being developed to interact with the market and put in bids/shorts for BitUSD. There are some screenshots floating around (looks quite promising). And yes after acquiring BitAssets you can send them on to a merchant's address for example.

It doesn't look promising but its a start. The GUI needs to be configurable. It needs to be skinnable and extensible.

I agree. There really needs to be some innovation with GUI. Many people will be won or lost by GUI alone. I hope the GUI designer is up for the job.

I appreciate you all taking the initiative on this and running with it. I've been working day and night on the new websites and videos (coming in one week) as well as on the event this summer so less time than I'd like to do these kind of marketing efforts.  Keep your eyes out for a sneak peek soon on the website and I'll look at what you're doing further once the dust settles over here.  B

Hey Brian, as discussed I added you to the Asana group. I think it would valuable to check in there once and while to make sure we are not duplicating efforts and/or ideas.

Sure but if we have no idea of the whereabouts of the first plane that took off, would I want to get on the second and the third? I mean I get it, it is an investment and comes with risk. In fact this could be a good thing because the price has risks taken into account so it might be severely undervalued. I just wish we had a clear arrival date for BTS.

I also wish that we could trade AGS. The lack of liquidity is a bit annoying.

But you do have an idea.  You get nearly daily progress reports and the code is open for inspection by all.  You get a seat inside the engineering drawing room as you watch us work through every issue that comes up.  You see all the great input from the forum, some of which requires us to make changes which, of course, take time.

Still, its better to make them now than discover them after launch.

Watching us discover and fix each new issue is one of the benefits of viewing your investments from the day of inception.  The alternative is to have all that messy development happen behind the scenes in closed development and get your first chance to invest after most of the risk (and corresponding reward opportunity) has already happened.

Many of our visitors are just not used to having this unique opportunity.  Their expectations are calibrated for a completely different risk/reward point on the development curve.  There are venues where you can operate at that later and more comfortable entry point, but that is not what we are offering here.

 :)

I would love to speak at the conference! My goal is to speak about the future of decentralised gaming applications and present my DAC to the community. I am still finalising draft proposals to submit to the shark tank.

I will be in touch during the following weeks.

Will you be honoring the social contract?

Of course. It is what I believe in.

How would a clear date help? What would it change fundamentally? Isn't it obvious that putting a specific date on the launch is a risk that I3 has evaluated and considered to not take at this time?

Do the assets traded on the MSC decentralized exchange allow you protect against volatility by locking in your profits into a pegged asset like BitUSD?

I was always suspicious of Mastercoin ever since I first heard of it because its name attempts to make it sound flashy, and it seems to try to do everything (just like Ethereum). It also piggy backs on top of the Bitcoin blockchain which Gavin has criticized as spam. I really liked the Bitshares X concept because it has a simple important value proposition, and its not marketed by BS.
