General Discussion / Re: [ANN] New Money project & SOLCERT token
« on: March 29, 2016, 06:08:43 pm »
Congratulations on launching your project Solomon and with your collaborations! Very very exciting! I don't have the funds to invest at this point but wish you the very best of luck.

Hey Ben! Thanks man! We've come a very long way.  :D

And still much more to go. But at least this time its with friends and comrades. Don't worry about it. Your words of encouragement are good enough! Its tough for one to put their vision out there, but honestly I'm very grateful to the Bitshares community coming behind this project in the way that it has.

Our overall image to the rest of the crypto-community is changing. A lot of us can feel it. People are genuinely interested in what we are doing and being civil with this project. They are asking more and more about Bitshares. Makes me happy because it is proving my original thesis out. That sometimes its not about the tech but the entrepreneur or people behind it.

With that let's stay positive and show the wider crypto-community that THIS is how you reach a mainstream audience. Not with Blockchain but with $ense #PoweredByBitshares #OnlyAtBitshares #OriginalRockStarDelegate

Yeah, Bitshares, Bitcoin, Ethereum it's all technology untill we have products that people really care. That's why entrepreneurs are standing up to launch products and business people care about (Sollywood TV, Echo Apps, PeerTracks, M.A.S and more to come...). These projects will take bitshares in another level. Mainstream don't even care if it's powered by Bitshares, Bitcoin or Ethereum Blockchains.

@Akado We did not decide yet if we make the whole code open source. However since all funds are stored on the BitShares Graphene blockchain, ECHO has no control over the user funds. Even if ECHO as a company fails, no user funds are lost because they could be recovered via a regular BitShares exchange. We probably offer a ECHO password recovery service for regular users. People simply forget passwords, so that means we will manage brain keys if the users hires us to do so.

Sorry I wasn't specific. My question was related to messages. Funds I know are safe assuming you use BitShares and everyone has their own private keys. Still, there could be code that also has access to the user's private keys when they create them since they're using your service I guess.

I believe you have good intentions, but expect people to question that sort of stuff. In this space people don't trust projects that are not open source, even though that doesn't mean the code is clean.

Yeah these are good points. I am collecting them all for a long FAQ and the future customer service. However I am sure we will work the details out over the next months. ECHO is a regular Fintech startup and will work with all kind of potential partners in and out of the industry. It is my personal goal to demonstrate BitShares awesome technology with ECHO.

Good luck with it! It's awesome to finally see some potential real world usage for BitShares, out of this box we're in. Finally something that can reach more people without them having to know all the details. This is the exact type of stuff we need.
Yep a day to day user friendly product that will help spread bitshares. can't say how many times l've wanted to giveaway some BTS to some crypto-enthusiast and always hesitate they will not have a good experience with our current mobile wallet. So i just give them some bitcoin with an easy app like AirBitz. Can't wait to see ours. Can getting OPENPOS UIA help?

General Discussion / Re: Stable Core Features - Newest Mumble with BM
« on: March 25, 2016, 06:52:41 pm »
In the latest mumble session with BM, he brought up the idea of focuses on stabilizing the core features and adding future changes as side chains. For those who attended, I'm sure you can explain this better than I can. I'd like to see a discussion about it.  To me, it does so many great things such as address criticism that Bitshares is always in a state of flux as well as minimizing dilution.

I do listened to the last mumble recorded version and I agree with BM suggestion to focus on Bitshares core features and let start-up build add-on as sidechains. I've been following other crypto protocol to best understand how Bitshares position itself.  I see Bitshares as kind of Nasdaq for Start-up, Small business and Co-op Company.  A platform where they can kickstart their project, get their customer/members to access their token/reward/share on a decentralize marketpalce.  Some will need particular features by customizing their need. So I believe if we keep improving and stabilizing the core features and offering tools  (APIs, How to) for newbies to easily learn how Graphene works, people will launch start-up or new business on top and in the long run, we will achieve great things.

Yeah crypto space is powered by open source. It's bring credibility. With many mobile wallet in the space and more to come, ECHO has to stand out by building a strong community that has confidence in the product.  This could be one of our Horseman toward  mobile public blockchain market. Same as AirBitz with Bitcoin, Jaxx with Ethereum and others. Open source the code will be a great add-on for adoption, like AirBitz's Edge Security Platform https://airbitz.co/

I hope it will not apply here...
3. Crowdsales Allow Unethical Behavior

It is, in fact, immoral to sell dreams.

Why? Because humans have a “wishful thinking bias”. This means that we are more likely to believe a false thing, if that false thing is a dream. Therefore, all dream-sellers have the ability to deceive (“steal money from”) the credulous.

You see, while people should be able to invest in whatever they want, others should also be able to openly criticize bad investment-choices. Unfortunately, silence is often interpreted as implicit endorsement, and so this criticism is simply too rare (because criticism makes one unpopular). With a few notable exceptions (all of which are devoutly informal, and non-startup), most people are too selfish and/or afraid to do anywhere-near the right thing.

So, crowdsales allow predators to get away with the crime of selling a dream.

had a very interesting reading here... http://bitcoinhivemind.com/blog/crowdsales/

A man can only work so many hours before he must put his faith and resources into another man to see larger returns than he alone can achieve by himself. This is time tested and the fundamental truth of what humans have come to term as "investing" or believing in someone else's dream that they are "selling". Whether you call it "selling a dream" or not no idea whether its goes through a crowdsale or not starts out as a reality or actuality. It starts out as a dream or concept or aka not there lol

The difference with people like me, Vitalik and ByteMaster is we show the dream not just selling it with words. Individuals can SEE where we are trying to go. And that is a powerful medium. I keep saying this because people keep forgetting Ethereum started out with ONE TEN MINUTE VIDEO and a WHITE PAPER THAT IS NOW CONSIDERED VAPORWARE But they sold a dream individuals could believe in and enough people rallied around it to make it a reality even though they started with vaporware. The same can be said about Bitshares and even Bitcoin. No technology or concept starts out perfect or with one person. Everyone forgets the excruciating amounts of iteration that goes into these projects.

Yes we are not starting out as "perfect" but we have a goal that is too powerful to ignore "a mainstream alternative to the Dollar" starting in an industry on its knees begging for disruption. That my friend is a powerful dream and one that people are buying because they understand the simple potential of it and see I have a vision and skills to get us there.

But I'm not perfect. AND LIKE ALL MEN I CANNOT ACHIEVE THIS ALONE. I need other individuals with impressive skills to believe in this as anyone who has ever lived and tried to achieve a dream does. It is fundamental to the human experience. Could Vitalik have coded Ethereum by himself? Or taken it to the market cap it has achieved by himself? Lets be real. How about Dan? People must believe in other's dreams. "Crowdsale" is a distraction. At the end of the day we must believe in others...

Rather than harp on what negativity might come lets try and stay positive and look at the bright side of what this project has done in less than three days. I mean the BitcoinTalk community is actually being CIVIL with us and they know I'm from Bitshares. If that's not a miracle I don't know what is  :D

Thanks for the post. I understand where the author is coming from. But its up to all of us to recognize diamonds surrounded by heaps of dirt when we see it. Is this project a diamond? That's up for you to choose. I've laid my dream out there. People are rallying behind it.  Believe in it or not. Either way we will succeed. Just like Ethereum.

I support this project...I can see the market. Forget Hollywood and just think about independant film maker or film school or video produer out there and around the world. Even if the project fails, it's ok. Someone will go after the market. Many of the project out there in the crypto crowdsale failed, as in other industry. I've study venture capitalist sector and get to understand that more than 50% of the early stage or serie A investment failed and the usually have success in 20% of the deals that cover all their losses.  People supporting the project should do their due diligence, take responsibilities on their decision. I've not yet understand all the details of the project and the plans, and the SolCert and Sense things :) ... but I don't mind because I see the Big picture and time will tell. All what I know is this projet will help people all around the globe access high quality content easily, as well as ByteMaster MAS project. Those type of project really impact people lives compare to trading/exchange. I'm also aware of the risk and I will not bring anybody into this type of project if it's not willing to take a risk. Yep people should do their due diligence, take responsibilities. I' also believe the promoter should make it easy to understand use cases. We should make sure we protect the Bitshares Core value for our long term. Maybe find a way to remove failed crowdsale on DEX after a period of time.  I don't know.  It's good discussing this type of concern
Thanks!

It is not crowdsales which is bad, it is crappy crowsales which is bad. Pretty much all of crowdsales on DEX are crap at the moment. Let's call them crapsalesdreamsales. Wishful thinking is the right term for dreamsales buyers. :)

Amanda is great!  I haven't approached her about this yet but I think she could make us an excellent "how to use bitshares video" or "what are bitshares video"

I may just get a quote from her and then create a donation address to raise funds for this.

What do you all think?

Rewards card functionality is now done, it works in v1.1 of the mobile wallet, the standalone pos and also Odoo POS. This way when you buy something at a store with your mobile wallet, the merchant can automatically send you some of their chosen/created UIA to reward you based on your purchases at that store. The merchant can also set how much to send, how much can be redeemed and even set amounts that you have to spend to qualify for certain rewards.

Lots of UI work being worked on right now.

The core code for mobile wallet Overdraft Protection is now done too. It allows your wallet to draw from your other desired balances should you not have enough to pay when you are being billed at a store. This will also be released with mobile wallet v1.1 in a few weeks (i know i know i said a couple weeks but I keep cramming more stuff into v1.1, i figured what the hell we might as well make the update worthwhile for as many people as possible).

The ability to spend more than 999 of a given asset or coin has also been fixed.

We have also doubled the speed of QR code reading, as it's taking like 10 seconds right now which will never work at any POS. I think once that "Witness spamming too much data" issue on github is fixed too, that will dramatically speed up the mobile wallets as well, cut down on cpu and bandwidth usage etc.

Together with OpenLedger, PeerTracks & Identabit; our POS project is one of Bitshare's Horsemen in the Decentralize Economy. Next week I will be joining a crypto-enthusiast meetup here at in Montreal (Bitcoin Embassy). BitShares is in agenda. Will demo our DEX & Mobile Wallet. Just need to make work on my phone. Last week I got my first Bitshares meetup at Bitcoin Embassy with 6 crypto-enthusiats. They were really surprise to hear about Bitshares and all the projects going on.

These are not promo videos. Just screen capture to get an idea of the platform.

We don't go into the Token - the core value proposition - in these videos. We focus more on the royalty side of things.

The Token system will be made obvious through Troopeers (which is being integrated to MUSE atm)

This is a game changer in music industry.  Music is HUGE, on a marketing persperstive, if we can't get big labels, independant musicians and small labels, small bands will love this. Just imagine colleges bands all over the world who want to be known. This is just adding subject to share during bitshares meetup.. Exchanges, hedge funds, banks, etc, all using BitShares via

This is not going to happen, because all of them need privacy among other things. They will rather wait when Hyperledger or whatever that IBM thing is called will be ready.

Banks might, but hedge funds, speculators, can be just about anyone. The fact it is decentralized means its trustless, there is no need for identity to be known during trades.

On more specific cases maybe contracts could be done. Still, that's something far ahead and who knows if we or someone else can't come up with the tech to achieve that.

We are still in the very beginning.

Don't we have stealth? maybe it could be upgraded in the future and be used for whatever needs banks need.

I would vote for bitshares to stay a financial platform for small people. Those oligarchs already have one and they are happy with it. Things like micro-payments, micro-investments, crowdlending, crowdfunding etc could be in demand if implemented correctly. This is imo, of course.

I agree, we have a great product with extraodinary features. We should work on easy of use. I see BitShares as an open financial platform for Small Business, Communities, Cooperatives and this is huge as market since they are not serve. Going for big businesses would not be a good strategy. Most of our products and assets target small business (POS, UIA, Referal Program, Reward Base Program, MAS, Decentralize Exchange).  Other crypto-platform have not build something that can be sold/present to local or small business. Our target market will keep us focus. We don't have an identity issue, BitShares is moving, but lack marketing and user friendly solution. Next week I'm starting a BitShares meeting group here in Montreal to share with some bitcoin community some Bitshares features and what make it different...Will love to show a nice mobile apps and get attendees send/receive some BTS, unfortunately our mobile wallet still in beta. I like the idea of presentating BTS as a share in in Decentralize Corporation.  Bitshares is easy to sell to non-crypto users or communities but we neeed to have ease of use. Do any one know about the cost of developing a great mobile apps?  kind like this ethereum bitcoin wallet... http://jaxx.io/

General Discussion / Re: Marketing plan for Bitshares 2.1
« on: February 29, 2016, 09:25:01 pm »
Afaik we promised that 2.1 will contain a Bond market .. not sure who will hope for this ..
not that they are unsatisfied then ..

I had already forgotten that. But given that bond market will still require some time it's probably useless to wait for it.

Let's get started ... where is the action plan, we need a roadmap and we need to come up with a strategy!

Who is going to take the lead?

I can coordinate as much as I have time for. Luckily I'll lose my job in a few weeks so I'll have some time to spend on this (unless I find a new one quickly).

My vision is in the OP and roughly that will be the strategy/roadmap. Probably not everybody fully agrees what should be done, so I encourage to suggest other strategies. I'll do what I see is best and wish that as many as possible will follow my lead. But we can do many strategies at the same time – most important thing is that we do something and we do it at the same time.

I recommend that everybody starts to think what kind of marketing they are most motivated to do and be ready to action when the time comes.

MaidSafe didn't promises big things, they just said "hey guys, we are going to release a minimum viable wallet" and everybody get exited by themselves. Just check the current market trend they have. These people won't be disapointed because they didn't promise more than what they will have.
We should do the same. If we don't have bond market working in the wallet, we have to say that bond market is already coded in the blockchain protocol and is one of our millestone. Not that we have it just like the web page lead people to beleive, this lead to bad reputation.

Yeah, one of the first things is to update website to reflect what's really going on. Outdated and mixed messages are not good way of communication.

Another thing, lot of poeple in the polo troll box thing that bts is a dead project (funny). We should have something dinamic in the bts.org web page, something that is showing some kind of roadmap, what we just did, the updates, forks, ... Just to give a feeling of dynamism.
This should be easy to change because we adapt so quickly that nothing should be made to last for weeks or months.

This is why we really need somebody to write blog posts. It's easy way of signaling that project is going forward.

I totally agree with the marketing we need to take forward in making BitShares well known. I'have compare BitShares with other Bitcoin 2.0 protocols like Ethereum, Mastercoin, NXT, Counterparty and found that BitShares is a ready to market platfom for businesses and communities, especially with UIA, Rewards, FBA and now Stealth. Yep, we lack marketing and communication. I'm planning to start a Bitshares meetup group here in Montreal. We have a Bitcoin community and this will be great place to show Bitshares advantages. Next, I will be targeting independant artist to talk about PeerTracks, and Coop companies since they can use Bitshares blockchain to issue tokens that can be shares among their members. Bitshares BlockChain features are well align with Coop laws and regulations here in Quebec.  It will be great to have a user friendly Bitshares mobile wallet. Something that non-crypto savvy can use easily, just by having fun sending/receiving BitShares UIA and SmartCoins  http://jaxx.io/ , https://airbitz.co/bitcoin-wallet/
We are now features in french on BitOramag.com - a Gold Crypto WebMagazine: http://bitoramag.com/2016/02/27/bitshares-la-plateforme-technologique-qui-utlise-la-blockchain-pour-decentraliser-et-socialiser-la-finance/

Great job to kencode and his team. I'm new in the forum and I've been following the development of Bitshares Wallet & POS. This will bring Bitshares to another level.  I'm from Montreal (Canada) and I'm planning to start a Bitshares meetup group here in 2 weeks.  I found  that some stores, small businesses and not for profit organization have Odoo and at times request volunteers at universities to help customize or develop some features using python.  I'will be getting in contact with those organization and share the idea of Smartcoins/Crypto payment and get them discover BitShares POS .
This is very exciting! Bitshares platform brings solutions to small businesses.   As ByteMaster use to say, it's not about trading, it's about solving real issues small businesses and in people face daily.  This is were Bitshares protocol wins.  I've gone through it for a while and get to know how businesses can quickly build on it (small business, start-up, NGO, cooperatives etc.). Bitshares blockchain with UIA and Reward base system are well align with cooperative laws here in Quebec. More than 60% of Canadian Co-op companies are base in Quebec province and I'm looking forward to develop strong relationships that would bring some in Bitshares BlockChain.
Great work guys!

Hi @pam2 and welcome to BitShares! :)

BitShares Montreal sounds awesome!!! Here are a couple others that are now forming:
http://bitshares.meetup.com - These may give you an idea of how to set yours up. I have a graphics guy that could make your header graphic for the page too if you like, no charge, just let me know.

Thanx for the compliment on the mobile wallet. It is a start, but I have a lot on the roadmap for it over the coming weeks.

As for the Smartcoins POS for Odoo, that is another one of our projects (it is still being funded via the OPENPOS token that you will see in the dex). Odoo is a great Point Of Sale system and we are working on milestone 3 of 5 right now:

Thanx so much pam2 and again, Welcome!

Thks Kencode, will keep u inform on how things are moving. Will also get some OPENPOS to support the project.

THIS IS IT!!
This is the official beta of the BitShares Wallet for Android. I am going to leave the word "beta" on here even though we have not had a single problem with it, even across all the alpha releases, just minor UI stuff which we cleaned up.

I created my AppleID today and enrolled in the Apple Developer Program, paid the 99€ so that we can upload the wallet and get it to the masses (IN 22 LANGUAGES TOO!). I hear it can take a couple of months for them to approve new apps for their app stores but nonetheless, you will now see the BitShares Wallet in the google play, apple, windows and f-droid app stores very soon.

This is the final version that you will see for a while. All of the alphas have worked great, no losses or bugs have been found (but of course only keep funds in a wallet that you can afford to lose). Nonetheless, I think you'll like it, we have not had a single issue.
What's next?
v1.1 will come in a few weeks. We are going to try to improve reading of the (very dense) QR codes, implement a callback feature so that the POS systems are notified the moment a payment is received, implement Rewards Card functionality with the POS systems, the new Overdraft Protection feature will be implemented (in case you don't have enough funds, you can set the wallet to auto-draw from other balances (thanks to Blocktrades!)) and a few more translations, etc.
v1.2 will give you the ability to set preferred API Connection (wss) in App Settings, allow upsizing your account to LTM, and run MUCH faster (right now each block is around 200K I think, eating cpu and bandwidth).

If funds allow (please support the OPENPOS token!)...
v2.0 will implement the Finder screen, local trading, maps api, Meetups api, etc.
v3.0 will implement the basic Exchange screen (will probably use highcharts or metatrader style for mobile)

Please spread the word, this is it!!

Distribute the file, link to it, email it to your friends overseas, Tweet it, host a local Meetup... IT'S TIME!! :D
