Stan's buying again!! 2.25 million more shares just yesterday. (Side note: can't wait for Stealth, when all this activity can be completely private.  :P)

With Stan buying, Stealth coming soon, the awesome power of the 3,300 TX/S stress test, and the recent rumblings around Dan's STEEM departure...I'm feeling pretty damn bullish right about now.

It's gonna be a good summer lads.

 :D

Nice! Too bad I just sold 75% of my stake 5 days ago. Mainly due to lack of any clear direction and leadership, but also because the DEX can not trade other major coins without the same risk as centralized exchanges.

If we fix that then I am all in again.

General Discussion / Re: begin working on bond market?

because we are lack of both money and faith now.
yes my choice is wait
wait for  business development
wait for volunteer
wait for a real leader

look at the year just past, how much the worker have cost, and what they  have done.
we have tons of killer functions already:  decentralize exchange, prediction market, smart coin, multi authority, proposed transaction.
but what we have done with these.  bond market is  huge , so what?
We have a decentralized exchange ONLY for bitshares and its in ecosystem tokens. The wider market does not want to hold bitshares, does not want to speculate on bitshares, does not want to use our smart tokens or our private assets. In short we should not claim to have a decentralized exchange, we have a decentralized *Bitshares* exchange. If we want even a shot at a true exchange that ppl actually use we will find a way to trade other crypto currencies on our exchange while the user holds the private key. Until this is done let us not kid ourselves. We have no DEX with broad appeal.

Our prediction market is not functional at all. As long as the market creater controls the outcome the prediction market might as well not be on the block chain as they can decide the market anyway they want. Call me stupid, but I can not even figure out out to settle my production market, and nobody here bothered to answer my questions on how to make it work. We have a dream at a prediction market, we do not have a prediction market.

@kenCode is the last chance of bts to succeed together with a coordinated marketing. And more specifically stealth IMHO..if that fails then..

By the way. Seeing bts bleeding and bleeding I am starting to think that maybe someone should fork bts,go back to fixed supply of 2billion which is reduced constantly by burning supply from fees.essentially go back to bts1 but rename it bts3 and sharedrop to bts holders excluding exchanges and let the market decide of that value. apparently cryptoinvestors want deflationary tokens not inflationary and this should be obvious to everyone in this community after 3 years of bleeding. What do u guys think?

no one can stop you from doing it
Just the kind of response that helps nobody. Might as well not have posted. We are a team with a common vision of helping bitshares succeed. One person can not do it alone. We will differ on how the proceed, but we should never dismiss enthusiasm.

My plans are to establish a few services that help me earn sufficiently so that i can focus efforts also on things that dont directly make a profit ... such as trezor coding.

If you can come up with a business plan around trezor that does not make us a 'seller' of the hardware, i am all ears
[/quote]

Would a worker proposal be a good fit for this project?

As far as a business plan goes, to me a fully functional decentralized exchange that can trade bitcoin decentralized is the goal. We get there by a worker proposal or by privet funding. We either get OpenLedger on board or we clone the site and launch a new DEX interface, but with more substantial support for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dash by way of a hardware wallet like Ledger Nano S or trezor. The exchange would monetize if we could grow it.

I am sure I am missing something obvious, like why this has not already been done, but it seems like a very worthy goal.

@svk .. maybe we should work together and get the BTS/Steem integration going. Lets have a chat about this .. it shouldnt take too much efforts to bring trezor to BTS given our current status .. maybe we could do a crowdfund for development ..

This would be yuuuuge!
It would be. I can not understand why this is not focused on more. With this functionality we would have a real and ligitimate reason to use the DEX for BTC trading and a pathway to extend it to other cryptocurrenties. Present this to the wider community and we have a substantial shot at massively growing Open Ledger. As OL is built on BTS we would start to put BTS back into the reserve pool at a faster rate and there would be ppl who buy BTS just to pay the fees if nothing else.

If what the community claims is true, that BTS is a superior technology, then exposer of this sort would only bring more interest, talent and growth prospects to the BTS "ecosystem".

I want to help us grow, but do not have the raw programming talent to pull this off. However, I could begin marketing BTS in earnest if I believed this could be done.

You made some nondescript and vague reference to something coming "this summer" last May. It was not much and when I finally read the thread ppl kept referencing, I was puzzled at why they made a big deal out of it.

Seem like people project their hopes on to your words.

Precisely why my words are so rare around here any more.  :)
Well, an alternative would be to leverage that power to mobilize the community again. That would be my preference, but history is hard to overcome I guess. There is too much good effort already in BTS to watch this community stagnant.

It this just technically not possible, or do people just not care?
It is technically possible and a major junk of work has already been done. It's a matter of how to fund further development.
That is very good news. If we could offer this to the BTC community, our network would have competitive edge. Do you have an estimation on funds and timing needed?

I think the trezor web wallet is open source now, could just add a tab to the gui that clones it.   https://github.com/trezor/webwallet-data
I would support that. Seems like we would want that. However, having the trezor web wallet accessable in the Dex is only half the idea. Once it is accessible will I be able to trade them like using the Dex?

I am probably asking too much and showing my ignorance of how the Bitshares network works l, but it seems key.

This would be fantastic.  But I think OPs question is different than whether or not BTS can be integrated with trezor wallet.  He wants to know about the possibility of incorporating other native wallets with the bitshares wallet. This is something I've been thinking about lately too.  It would be amazing if we could incorporate other native wallets, similar to the way Exodus Wallet has...which would enable in-wallet, shapeshift-like exchange of assets over which the user controls all keys.

Obviously this wouldn't be a traditional exchange-like orderbook trading experience.  But the storage of the supported coins would be decentralized, which would add another important decentralized aspect to the bitshares wallet experience.  What would it take to accomplish this?
Yes, that is it. It would be different than most exchanges and could truly set us apart form any supported cryptocurrenty. After this feature we would have a fresh reason to launch a large scale advertising campaign. We would truly be a decentralized exchange for non BTS based tokens.

Thanks, I had heard about the possibility of putting Steem on Trezor and know that some want BTS on it also. However, I want to have by bitcoin on my trezot/ledger nano s and use that to integrate into the Bitshares DEX. It would truly complete the DEX and leave little excuse for others not to adopt it.

Basically, with a trezor in hand I could log into the Dex access my bitocin waller (with my keys on the trezor) and exchange with anyone doing the same.

The other thought would be to integrate hardware wallet functionality into the desktop client.

« on: February 03, 2017, 08:02:35 pm »
Bitshares DEX has virtue only as long as you are holding/trading BTS and other BTS based tokens. For literally any other asset or crypto currency the DEX is exactly like a normal exchange, but does not have good trading volume. I don't know much about integration, but would it be possible to use the features shown in say a Nano Ledge S and integrate them into the Bitshares asset exchange?

Here is how I see it. The leader nano s is simply a chrome extension interface. If we build the DEX as a chrome extension maybe we could integrate the two together? Then you really would control all your privet keys for bitcoin, ETH, ETC, DASH as you trade on the Bitshares DEX.

Possible?

bitshares doesn't participate in any of the bitcoin rallies, but falls when bitcoin sells off...

I'm sure there is someone here who can explain to me how bullish that is.

The answer of "The future of bitshares has never looked brighter!" is not valid anymore when describing the price of the bts token.... That saying has been regurgitated thousands of times and the price keeps falling.

Pumps keeping getting smaller...
I bought a pretty sizeable chunk of BTS about a year ago. It was my second month into the Crypto-Blockchain space and nearly every free moment I spent reading, learning about the industry and scouting out opurtunity. Yes, most of my motivation was/is long term speculation, but I do believe in the underlying aim of decentralization. I chose BTS (of many) not because it was a competitor with Bitcoin, but because it was so unique. At the time Open Ledger was simply amazing and nothing like it existed.

I will be the first to admit that I do not know if BTS will ever massively succeed and make my investment worth it, but I do believe it should be judged on different merits than Bitcoin and other "currencies". Currently BTS is not really trying to be a currency but a platform for exchange. I agree it is struggling, but I do not think you should compare it to bitcoin, as it is very different in form and function.

I do enjoy hearing your thoughts on BTS, because I have a financial interest in not being blind to reason and on the whole you have been reasonable.
