This looks great! I like how the answers were drilled down to be much shorter.  I think I'll leave it open a couple more days for final suggestions.  I think the format question/answers are great, just want to be sure we didn't leave any out.   Can anyone think of any questions that come up often that aren't included here? If so, submit them before wed evening.  Then we'll wrap this one up. Thanks everyone!

New York is critical becasue it's the financial capital of the country as well as the home of many major news agencies. We plan to leverage our time there to get major media coverage (the same NY Times writer said she'd cover us there). Also, Daniel can remain an expert in the industry by speaking regularly at events. We've been invited to at least 6 other events (including Toronto in April) that we had to turn down due to getting too many requests for Dan to speak, and to make sure he's got plenty of time to keep building and innovating.

General Discussion / Re: Intro Video Script for website: thoughts?
« on: March 09, 2014, 04:17:31 am »
Unfortunately, it will only run 90 seconds (studies show most peoples' interest level drops of fast even after 1 minute) so there's not a lot of room to add to the script, but words can be changed or removed.  We'll have a professional voice do the voiceover...this will be done right.

BUT, this is only the first video...the one you'll see when you first visit the site.  Then under our videos section we'll have a several more explainer videos...

General Discussion / What are Bitshares? Video Script
« on: March 09, 2014, 02:43:16 am »
Hey Forum,

I've written this script (with much help from Dan and Gregory) and wanted to get your opinions on it.
This will be for the first explainer video one sees when coming to our new website.
It will be around 90 seconds and be animated, like the What is Bitcoin Video.
The purpose is to (breifly) give an overview of DACs and what BitShares does.
The script is first, whats below each line is a suggestion for the visuals...I may leave that up to the video team to come up with.
Either way, please let me know if you like it, hate it, or have a better idea, especially for the visuals.

WHAT ARE BITSHARES?

I’m picturing a little guy walking along who stops when he hears the narrator speak.  in parentheses is suggested visuals.

Imagine a company.
(building drops from sky right next to him - that was close! - a sign appears swinging off it that says COMPANY, INC).

This company has a lot of expenses.
(add in employees, desks, salaries, utilities, staplers, rent, equipment, etc).

But what if you could remove those expenses...
(show them each going poof and turning into money, which grows into a pile of bills next to guy)

and give all the money saved to the customers?
(the guy sees shares magically appear in one hand, then some bills fly into the other hand of him and his friends, a big crowd who we now see around him, all smiling).

What if there were no middlemen, brokers, or commissions...
(big X’s over a greedy looking fat businessman, or you could have a bunch of men with “middle” on their shirts, or a slick looking dude, and scissors cutting a part of a dollar off…… our guy has even more money now, spilling out of his pockets)

and you could trade your shares with anyone as easy as sending email?
(a computer flops from sky in front of guy, showing shares on screen, he presses big “send” button and the shares shoot to another guy on other side of a tiny globe, also with a computer…. both celebrate).

Well now you can, with BitShares.
(In zooms the BitShares logo looking like a hero who stands next to our guy. Put a cape on the “b”?)

BitShares are shares of digital companies that are traded directly from person to person over the internet.
(can we show the “b” zooming around taking companies - which could be the buildings we used earlier - and turning them into “b” companies! The companies themselves look proud and puffed up).

Digital companies exist entirely in software that runs on the computers of the customers that use them.
(the company building is now split into pieces and flies into the computers of a bunch of happy shareholders)

Bitcoin was the first digital company that calls its shares coins and promoted their use as a form of money.
(Show the Bitcoin “B” symbol kind of amble in - walking - also wearing a cape, right on the other side of the guy in the story.  A coin falls out of his pocket with a bitcoin B on it, he looks a bit embarassed.  The two b's smile at each other knowingly with arms crossed, capes flying).

BitShares goes beyond Bitcoin to offer many new, and more profitable companies in industries like banking, stock exchanges, auctions, music, voting, lotteries,  insurance, and many more.
(images representing each of these appears as BitShares walks over and starts magically making a growing pile of new industries like he has superpowers.  Bitcoin is wowed and guy is happy because his money grows).

Bitshares does for business what Bitcoin is doing for money.

(website swooshes in, with logo appearing above it).

This is a great start. MrJeans, the format looks good, but yes, we can always go for drilling it in a bit more.  The purpose of this FAQ is to be a source of simplified answers to the most common questions, not so much in depth information source, which other parts of the site and the forum can be used for...so keeping it "dumbed down" as much as possible is the way to go. Also, great idea on collaborating on gethub.  Keep at it.

I'm still in Austin right now with the team at the Texas Bitcoin Conference (check Facebook to see what's up) but will add some more thoughts on the FAQ this weekend when I return home. GREAT things happening out here.

Marketplace / 150PTS - Comprehensive FAQ for new site [CLOSED]
« on: March 04, 2014, 02:30:11 pm »
We need to create the mother of all FAQ's for our new site.  I know we have some smaller ones here on the forum (like the great one on AGS by Que23).  Let's use that format to build a master FAQ.

Start with the most basic questions a complete newbie would have like "What are BitShares?" and move out from there.  Please try to keep the questions and answers brief (as possible)...this will serve as basic Q&A, not as an in depth info source, which can be covered in the upcoming blog and here on the forum.

Also, don't worry so much about technical questions like "How do I build a PTS mining rig for fun and profit in my mom's basement?"  or "How do I create a DAC on your platform?" Simple, basic questions that MOST people would ask.  We can always include more technical ones later.

This is a high priority, so we'll pay out 150PTS.  If one person compiles it all and it's good enough to use as it,  they'll get the bounty, but if we have multiple submissions I'll try to make it as fair as possible when paying out.  It would be great if it were organized by subject (for example, the entire AGS FAQ would all fit under the "AGS" section).

Also, please suggest questions you wish YOU had answered when you were first learning about BitShares.  What questions did you have? Post them here.

Good Luck,
B

FAQ for website:

Great work here.  We're getting content over to the web guys this week for our new website and I'd love to use this FAQ. Can you all let me know what else you think may need to go on it?  What are some of the most basic questions people will ask when first getting started that we should include?  Can you remember some of the first questions you asked?  Questions like: What is a DAC?  How is BitShares different than Bitcoin? What is Keyhotee?   I love what's here, I'd just like to expand upon it.

Ok, I'm done! I promise, I went to each and every one of these links. Whew....

Let me tell you first how I eliminated some of these. I did not count the link it if it was:
-  not written in english, (obviously, I need it in english to use on our site and I wasn't going to google translate all of them, which was probably 20% or more of those submitted, sorry I didn't think of that orginally, but english only).
- an announcement (hey! Check out Daniel Larimer coming to Atlanta)
- a blog that pointed to another article  (ex: a brief paragraph with, 'hey, check out this artice Joe Blow wrote') ....there were a lot of these
- was just a list and happens to mention us (ex: here's a list of 10 alt coins you should look at).
- a repost of our own content (hey, check out Stan's article on LTB), etc.
- and lastly, if I had seen it before, I didn't count it.
I was more than generous, giving credit at times for things that were certainly not "articles or press."

Thank you so much for everyone who contributed. I had no idea I'd get so many submissions. There were certainly a lot of nuggets I found in the list that we can use. Please, don't ask me about whether a specific link was counted or not. I was fair with how I counted these and I don't plan to go back and recount. :0)

Also, keep your eyes out for new bounties from marketing - I have some more "Easy Money" bounties that I'll post soon for those of you who are good at finding things.  All that being said, here are the winners and how many PTS they have won.

Jernau - 4PTS
38PTSWarrior - 13PTS  (congrats on quality links and being super fast to post them. Most of the articles we'll feature came from you).
ffwong - 4PTS
Nutterboy - 1PTS
Troglodactyl - 1PTS
Currencydebt - 5PTS
CryptoVape - 1PTS

So we can get these paid today and for bytemaster's convenience, please re-post your PTS address after this post.  Thanks again.

Bigger Than Bitcoin!

Delulo,
Great idea. If you think you can write that article, please do and send it to me. If it can be used for marketing purposes, I'll send you PTS for it. Thanks for the suggestion. B

I just now read this thread and do have someone who helps me monitor reddit, but would be great to have help with bitcointalk as well. unlimited_power and anyone else who thinks they may be good fit for this job, please pm me and we'll discuss. I could use the help, and you're right, we need to be on top of our message in the other forums. B

I'd be happy to introduce Tabitha, our social media specialist.  She'll be helping us build our social media platforms and hopes to get everyone in the forum involved. She's been an incredible help to us so far and is excited to be a part of what we're doing with BitShares.  B
