General Discussion / Re: What going on?
« on: March 16, 2015, 10:14:58 am »
I've seen multiple updates from the core developers in different threads since the last week .
Need I dig that up ?

appears to be not communication and updates
yep..... appears to be is the right word , because there are updates and actual progress on coding instead of mentioning the same progress over and over again with different people .

Then again , don't base your investment on the progress of development . The price would still be the same even if 1.0 version comes out tomorrow , or 1.0 comes 6 months later . If it's a bad time to buy economically , don't buy it even the development progress is good . If you have a feeling that the price is good , just buy it even you think the wallet is buggy . It didn't really matter , the price is not supported by the wallet itself .

Dang btswildpig..  +5% for such an awesome detailed response. Be great if some of the folks following it actually read it.. OP did though... you are a great ambassador for BitShares and moments like this really show it.

Izr1900 did you maybe notice how 100% delegates are cooperating between each other and with other community members.
I know the price has been down but development is great and the price will eventually have to show all the great  work that has been put in to Bithshares.

General Discussion / Re: Development seems to be suspended

It is unreasonable to expect every aspect of the Bitshares development process to be posted online. Github commits hardly paint a full picture and threads like this often become an echo chamber for disgruntled armchair project managers. You would know if development was in actual turmoil because the devs would be dumping their significant holdings.

Part of the reason the "gag" is necessary is to start managing investor expectations. Do you want core developers theorycrafting back and forth on the forums or writing code? Should Dan have to hire a scribe to jot down every internal discussion that pertains to development and then post it on the forums? No, you're right, we should have all of the devs start filling out time sheets and posting them online. They'd love that. And just to be extra sure, let's have Stan hovers over their workstations at random intervals to keep them on their toes and REALLY let 'em know that we're watching.

As investors, we have been spoiled by the unprecedented transparency offered by this project in its infancy. Those days are gone. Investors have never, and will never have 100% oversight on the way development and business processes unfold precisely because of the unsubstantiated speculation thrown around in this thread.

General Discussion / Re: Light Wallet Beta Release
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:17:55 am »
At present, I have no plans on integrating with any particular exchanges or gateways. Sending to and receiving from these services using the light wallet should work as expected, and I do not necessarily want to endorse any particular service over another.

There is a way to achieve both goals:

* Offer a single deposit/withdraw interface
* Integrate a bridge wrapper
* Choose the bridge with the best price for the chosen coin type

This doesn't unfairly advantage any particular bridge and is win/win for everyone :)

Our most key point is market pegged assets.  How do you convey such an idea using graphics?  Whether animated or static graphics, what is the most intuitive way possible to present the idea itself.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this. In fact, I posted the following on slack a few days ago:
Quote
I'm also really interested in how to visually represent the market peg mechanics (what I am imagining is probably better suited for animation though). Here is a rough idea of what I have been imagining. I would like to represent BTS as a fluid which can fill up beakers. Then I see this beaker sitting on a scale with a dollar bill on the other side of the scale. As the value of the dollar grows relative to BTS (show appropriate increase in the USD/BTS chart in background), the physical dollar bill enlarges and the scale tips in favor of the dollar bill. Then a hand holding another beaker filled with the BTS liquid appears and pours additional BTS into the beaker on the scale thus rebalancing the scale. The dollar then shrinks and the scale tips in favor of the beaker. The hand pours some of the liquid from the beaker on the scale to the other beaker to rebalance the scale. We then show how there are many of these scales with beakers all balancing against the dollars (with their corresponding off-scale beaker to back them). We then state that 1 BitUSD is a claim on any one of the beakers on the various scales and the short position is a claim on the other beaker. For the claim holders to get access to their respect beakers, however, the beaker on the scale needs to be replaced by the 1 BitUSD. The short position owner can do this swap at any time. For someone who is not the short position owner to do the swap they must either wait until 30 days has passed since the short was created (visualize a clock on top of the scale) or if the amount of fluid (BTS) in the off-scale beaker becomes too small relative to the fluid in the on-scale beaker (margin calls).

The point of the above is that I would like to take the market peg mechanics and visualize them with concrete objects and actions that are hopefully easier for people to grasp.

lol arhag you're a genius... one step ahead..  I will think about this some more.  I've always thought along the lines of market graphs and some sort of animated arrows but that is as far as I went.  It would be interesting to read the community's thoughts.

2nd that!! ;)

General Discussion / Re: Bytemaster and Mumble - A Proposed Solution
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:41:48 pm »

Look where we are after one year. From decentralized system with TaPOS - to centralized DPOS, then price feed enforcement, then merger massacre and dilution, now a censorship and insider trading. Not to mention main wallet resource hog and lack of progress(Vote DAC, anyone?), and super failure with marketing push. WTF, can't say i'm happy where things are going towards.  :-X

Could easily frame much of that and more as positive

For some people glass is always half empty  :)

We are growing up.  We need more leaders and I am reaching out to them as we speak.

It is a fact that there are many people who are very important in this ecosystem that it is unfair to only reach out and empower Bytemaster to speak.  For this reason, I intend on moving forward with having frequent hangouts under the same format with other individuals who have stepped up to the plate to become leaders in our ecosystem.

Many people are building onto BitShares as we speak.  And most of the broader community doesn't even know about them.  It is time to fix that :)
So look at the glass as half full and preparing to fill further...because we are not stopping just because of PR hangups.
That is kind of attitude this community needs. Most important thing is cooperation among community members.
Thank you fuzzy for spreading message of cooperation.  :)  +5%

Hi ,
Yes the site is good, it is from dannosstein one of our core developers. Here is copy paste from their site:

This site is still at an experimental stage, but it is actively supported. If you have a problem or a question about the site, you can reach us at support@blocktrades.us or info@blocktrades.us or by phone at 540-808-1110.
If you sent them mail they will fix it for you  :)

Its a bit of a chicken-egg scenario.
We need merchants to accept it to make it useful.
Merchants will only start accepting when it has a critical mass.

I clearly see the benefits of bitAssets. But if I get myself some bitUSD, what am I going to do with it?
The technology needs to be paired with some kind of utility.

I don't buy into the whole mass market merchant angle as a viable strategy in the near future.  As a merchant, I can sign up for Bitpay and have the amount immediately converted to Fiat and dumped into my bank account. The immediate use cases I see for BitUSD is more niche:

* Eliminating dark market volatility
* High risk merchants such as the adult industry where credit card fees are ridiculous
* A way for Bitcoiners a chance to move a portion of their holdings to a savings account that pays interest (hedgewallet)

May I make a suggestion?

Being the media contact is exactly what I would like to be doing for bitshares.  Positioning and messaging is one of my strong suits and I think I would be good at it, perhaps even as good as Dan and he would be free to spend his time on tasks with more value.

I am not sure if I have Dan's star power and so Journo's may not be as excited to talk to me as they are him, but I think that would change in time.

What do you think?  Should be put on the site as the media contact and allow journo's to come straight to me?

I say yes!

- Create a public roadmap similar to Maidsafe to keep investors in the loop. Not everyone lives on Github.

- If Dan feels the need to speak, Bitshares.tv. Max is smart enough to present it in the best way possible.

- Client voting proposals so we hear from the larger holders, not just those that have time to hang out around the forums.

- Any PR releases should be reviewed by multiple people.

- Mumble sessions for other people important to the ecosystem.

- We need a polished client and a real reason for the millions of Bitcoin wallets to use our decentralized exchange. That is what generates the PR we need to survive.

- Further development on wall features such as subscriptions provides a huge boost to delegate reporting effectiveness outside the forum.

Hi kenCode,

Article is about SuperNet which is part of NXT as far as I know.
In comment section you mentioned DPOS which is NXT main competitor so as expected NXT guys didn't appreciate it  :)
It"s just another day in crypto world

General Discussion / Re: Instead of adding BitShares to a Bitcoin wallet...
« on: February 28, 2015, 11:32:19 am »
Can you feel it???  We are tantalizingly close to biggest crypto home run since bitcoin itself.

As most on this thread are already very astute too...  Messaging and positioning is critical.  I would brand it a whole new thing(Coinstamp for example) and it would be a "decentralized bitcoin exchange."  The experience would actually be just like going to bitfinex.

You would deposit bitcoin.  Your account would say you have bitcoin, just like bitfinex says even though what you really have is bitfinexbitcoin. The difference is Coinstamp coin is really bitbtc and it is real time cryptographically provably solvent.  You can use your imagination for the rest.   If bitfinex/bitstamp/btc-e make no distinction between their IOU's and the real thing why should we?  The catch is stealing their liquidity.  When bitfinex started, they used bitstamp liquidity to get themselves up and running.   Apart from some simple GUI stuff, that is the final piece.   And of course and USD/bitUSD gateway.
