It seems like every day I see web designs on the internet that look outstanding, and makes me feel like my efforts are neanderthal in comparison. But I could throw up a Joomla site with some generalized info pages about delegate voting, and a forum, guestbook or some way to for delegates to post the essentials of their "campaign platform" for the general public. Maybe even putting up polls to gauge what the BitShare community considered to be important in a delegate might provide useful input. Hell I dunno. Anyway, this may not even be worth 2 shatoshis to this community, but it's a thought that crossed my mind.

I don't think we should rush to start too many markets.  Starting a market is a pretty big commitment.   Every market makes the delegate job more difficult by making them publish more feeds and it's better if all delegates don't rely on the same automated script to publish feeds.  I am opposed to starting any more "crypto" type markets... I don't see any point to bitLTC bitNXT etc.  I don't even see a whole lot of reason/need for bitBTC.

A very small number of solid liquid markets is best at the moment, wait until the assets are really useful and people really have a desire for more.  Don't do something just to do it because I don't think we have agreed on a way to stop/unwind/retire support for a market.  As long as there are a few people holding on to some random asset you sort of owe it to them to keep a feed in place.  Worst case we could probably discontinue a market by giving a lot of notice and saying all shorts will be closed and bitassets credited BTSX at feed price but this will probably look bad.

General Discussion / Re: NuBits
« on: September 24, 2014, 04:59:32 pm »
If NuShares placed their Shares as collateral against NuBits then you would have BitShares assuming NuShares were a freely traded crypto and the interest rate voted on by NuShare holders was the interest rate PAID by the shorts to the longs.

What happens if the collateral loses value? This approach introduces a serious default risk. As it is, the viability of NuBits does not depend on maintaining the value of NuShares.

I appreciate you two duking it out publicly, but schedule a closed door session, both parties will benefit

I disagree with that. This conversation may one day be in history books. This is education that money can not buy.
My deep respect to all who are part of this discussion. We are all learning here.

Illegal, but not immoral.  Using force to prevent them from selling at a loss would be immoral but apparently totally legal.

Maybe in some universe (the gates of heaven?), morality is the bottom line. Without antitrust laws, I don't think the majority of market actors will make decisions based on morality. What we'll get, instead, is an economy ruled by crime syndicates. In the absence of government power, we simply get private actors who (ab)use their strength to control others. Russian mafia? Mexican drug lords? They use 10x the force, since there's no government to keep them in check (or they own that government). I'd rather have a flawed democratic government with half-assed regulations that are enforced to protect the free market and the consumer.

I wish that using force were not part of human nature, but for many people it seems to be par for the course.

You are right... governments are the realization of an economy ruled by crime syndicates and we are living in a "free market" that hasn't found a product or service that is able to protect us from these crime syndicates.

You speak as if governments do not violate the very laws they impose on everyone else...
1) they steal
2) they kill
3) they lie, cheat, and defraud
4) they unilaterally break contracts
5) they threaten at gun point
6) they form monopolies on justice, law, etc..
7) there is no "government" to keep the government in check....

Bottom line... free markets will have to defend us against governments not the other way around.
