General Discussion / Guys can we stop shitting on nubits
« on: January 16, 2015, 10:44:41 pm »
It makes you look desperate and threatened.

Dan's blog posts were intended to communicate structural problems he saw in nubits. Everyone else took it as a green light to start more or less slandering their project.

It is clear they don't have malicious intent. You might disagree about whether their stuff can work or not, heck you might even feel a moral obligation to protect investors, but the right answer is to calmly point out structural problems.

Here is a positive example:  http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/2smt81/proof_that_nubits_fractional_reserve_get_out_now/cnr0gke

Here is a negative example:  http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/2smt81/proof_that_nubits_fractional_reserve_get_out_now/cnr1z0g

General Discussion / Basic market maker bot for bter BTC/bitUSD available
« on: January 16, 2015, 07:03:38 pm »
It's still very primitive. You will have to rebalance manually via BTS and I'm sure there are a million edge cases it can't handle.

But hey with just a few BTC we brought the bitUSD/BTC volume up from 2 BTC to 70 BTC.

If traders look at vanity numbers, let's give them vanity numbers!

General Discussion / Use cases for manual testing of GUI
« on: January 15, 2015, 05:35:24 pm »
Please help me crowd-source a step-by-step guide for all common use cases in the GUI. These are tests that will be done manually on devshares prior to each BTS release.

For example:
* making a new wallet
* registering an account with the faucet
* registering an account without a faucet
* voting

etc. Assume the user knows more or less how the software is supposed to work, so the steps don't have to be too detailed.

General Discussion / Where is bitUSD/BTC trading?
« on: January 13, 2015, 09:54:52 pm »
Only bter.com?

Initial MM bot trial seems to be going ok. We will increase bitUSD/BTC liquidity at bter significantly in the next few days. Where should we go next?

You know there's no penalty for just letting it expire right?

I'm still not super clear on what these are all about, but they put BTS into a positive light and seems to take a cooperative approach.

I have finished a simple market-maker for two external exchanges. Once it is polished, adding more exchanges will be easy.

I am looking for anybody who:

1) Has at least ~$20k to put in a MM bot
2) Is willing to accept standard market-maker risks (exposure to wrong asset at the wrong time for any given pair)
3) Is willing to accept "immature code" risk.
4) Has basic IT skills (launch a VPS, generate api keys) - YOU will be running the bot and taking full responsibility for it.

Please PM me.

Riverhead is already helping with IT support, if you are missing #4 but trust him that may be an option as well.

Advantages of being an early market maker is that you will get any the same trading fee discounts as I have managed to negotiate (one deal so far), and you won't have much competition.

I will open-source more and more of the code over time as competition heats up and this isn't such easy money.

Stakeholder Proposals / New Delegates: Zach Lym Trial Week
« on: December 25, 2014, 07:03:34 pm »
As you might know, the lead Namecoin developer is doing a trial week in VA starting Jan 4th. Since the DNS dev fund was reallocated to you the rest of you fine stakeholders, what's left of the original DNS investment is not enough to cover the whole trip, and since I pledged to stop spending my personal money for the benefit of BTS, I need to request a new delegate:

dev-trial.misc.nikolai

This delegate will run for as long as I need to 1) get back the delegate registration fund (~59,900 BTS) and 2) cover the difference between what I will pay Zach and what I can pay myself back from the remainder of the DNS fund (< $2k). This should take approximately a month. At that time, I'll either burn the excess and take it offline, or make a new proposal for what to do with future income. I think keeping the node around for future dev trials is a natural choice, but that's a conversation for later.

This delegate will be 100% transparent - it is not personal income for me but rather an expense by the DAC.

General Discussion / You guys don't understand devshares.
« on: December 25, 2014, 05:52:14 pm »
Would you be angry if the devs coordinated a massive dump to test out undercollateralization?
DON'T HOLD DEVSHARES!

Would you be angry if the devs discovered and exploited a bug in DVS which permanently brought down the network and forced a reset?
DON'T HOLD DEVSHARES!

Would you be angry if the devs reset the network and allocated 100% to Vikram?
DON'T HOLD DEVSHARES!

From BM:
Quote
No one can execute a scam on the DevShares network because all such scams are deemed to be legitimate voluntary choices in a contract free world.

It is important that you have your expectations set right here. Exchanges may freely walk away with your DevShares deposits without any moral issues.

DevShares came into existence for two reasons:
1) We need a live network that has the same fork history as BTS for everyone to practice upgrading in "the real thing".
2) We need a network to test economic theory, which works equally well at a market cap of $10,000 or $10 million

DevShares was NEVER intended to be a sound investment or a good place to store your value. If you are complaining about DVS allocation, you simply don't understand its function!

I will never suggest anyone do anything other than sell DVS (unless they need to buy 1 cent worth to run some tests), and I definitely would never support such idiocy as diluting BTS to support DVS price!
