5/27

More than 12 AGS per PTS!
Less than $0.40 per AGS!

Holy moly

LottoShares / Honoring AGS
« on: May 23, 2014, 02:26:25 pm »
Very cool! Good job. Thoughts:

1) Non-proportional awards for DOGE and BTC... Dogecoin's about to get dusted!
2) Secure distributed RNG, I'm pretty sure Denny's DPOS approach solves that. Any plans to play nice regarding possible name collisions? I'm sure you would not appreciate it if he called his "LottoShares 2.0"
3) Not honoring AGS... Might be reasonable if you're making a point about how they didn't give you any funds, but the point is the distribution list and not shows of allegiance. I don't think a fork is a threat because of Denny's lotto DAC and there is no precedent to show AGS is a good target.

KeyID / Crowdsource list of organizations to sharedrop
« on: May 11, 2014, 09:41:30 pm »
If we distributed shares to organizations ("social activists", tech, free speech, crypto, etc), I would want to have a balance between a shotgun approach with thousands of targets (to avoid "premine/centralization" problems) and an approach where we identify effective organizations.

In any case, let's start collecting a giant list.

Marketplace / Professional writer who understands all the details
« on: May 11, 2014, 07:24:10 pm »
There is not a large intersection of people who "get it" and people who write well. Crowdsourcing doesn't cut it as editing by core team is another 80% work on top.

Stan and Charles Evans are good, but who else?

These concepts need to be clearly presented and curated:

* snapshots/airdrops
* market peg
* DAC as social dilemma solving machines
* DPOS & evolution of blockchain security model
* "guide to bitshares intro guides"
* "intro to bitshares" *tailored towards audiences* with separate entry points
    * cryptocurrency geeks
    * normal geeks
    * investors
    * average person
* complete understanding of bts x, me, lotto, dns, feeds & derivatives, ID,\
* what is theoretically possible with dac and what is not
* understanding of reasons why people who make good decisions choose to buy things

KeyID / [BOUNTY] Collect .bit websites here
« on: May 10, 2014, 03:41:23 pm »
Giving away 50 25 bips of .p2p for each new *active* .bit website you guys find.
(50 still for first few guys)

Might favor airdropping onto these guys over just NMC holders.

Banging my head against a silly task...

https://github.com/nmushegian/dnschain/blob/master/src/lib/nmc.coffee#L33

@peer is defined here:

https://github.com/nmushegian/dnschain/blob/master/src/lib/nmc.coffee#L23

Notice you give a host and a port separately (they are defined here, but there's no way to specify "/rpc"! https://github.com/nmushegian/dnschain/blob/master/src/lib/config.coffee#L57)

Here is how to test the interface with curl:
Code: [Select]
curl --user user --data-binary '{"jsonrpc": "1.0", "id":"curltest", "method": "getbalance", "params": [] }' http://127.0.0.1:9989/rpc

Here's a 5 minute setup guide to have both .p2p and DNSchain running:

Thanks cassiopaia for the idea!
We'll be updating this during break time from more serious stuff.

More ideas for how to improve this or do more visualizations of BTS concepts are welcome!

General Discussion / Peershares website live
« on: April 25, 2014, 02:07:19 am »
http://peershares.net/
They are essentially at checkpoint "bitshares ME"... but with a few interesting twists

Quote
Each business using Peershares will have their own blockchain that is independent of all others. Blockchains can be secured cheaply and easily using Peercoin’s proof-of-stake, once the initial (issuer-controlled) shares has been generated using proof-of-work.

I imagine the POW sidechain distribution can be fixed pretty quickly... Otherwise not sure what to think except it seems like a natural progression from ME in the long term. Might be too long-term to be worth the development overhead? I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Quote
We are thrilled that so many people are eager to see us succeed. Because a business owner using Peershares must purchase Peercoins before he can distribute them as dividends, Peershares will certainly increase demand for Peercoins.

So, if you are looking to invest in the future success of Peershares, buying Peercoins is a worthwhile decision.

Right ok  ;)

Quote
Furthermore, we will not be accepting funding for the planned extension of Peershares that our team is working on. This venture will ultimately develop an extension of Peershareswhich will serve important unmet needs in the cryptoeconomy. The design of the system is complete similar to how the Peershares design is complete, although we are withholding details at this time in order to maintain our competitive advantage. What we would like to say about it is that because the core of the project is an extension and implementation of Peershares, our first step is funding the open source development of Peershares.

Scary.

Edit: a tasteless mix of sarcasm and seriousness... This project looks really good and we need to keep an eye on what they're doing.

General Discussion / BitShares Intellectual Property
« on: April 24, 2014, 02:57:23 pm »
There are a few scattered threads trying to discuss this issue but I do not feel like there is any real progress on the problem of applying DAC power to fix the *cause* of centralization in these industries (research, music, etc).

Two major categories of proposed solutions:
* Replicating standard business models but without the middlemen... BitShares ME++
* Using clever consensus/market mechanisms to reward good musicians and supporters of good musicians

If we settle for the first I will be extremely disappointed...

Step 1: What are all the types of agents w.r.t. this system? What are their individual goals?

KeyID / Namecoin airdrop?
« on: April 11, 2014, 05:06:15 pm »
Should we pre-allocate some fraction of DNS to namecoin holders?

Anyone who educates themselves enough to redeem their DNS will probably realize they should dump their NMC and support this effort.
The vast majority would never be redeemed and would just turn into dividends one year from now... so it's still sort of like allocating most of it to AGS/PTS. This makes me feel ok about allocating as much as like 20% to namecoiners.

This would also make it much more likely that people would honor .p2pshares directly... we might not need a DNS proto-DAC if all namespace DACs honor the previous players in the space and AGS/PTS directly.

General Discussion / DNS video script
« on: April 09, 2014, 04:21:14 am »
I'm wondering if there is already a Domains script in the works?
Here's some word blobs I wrote that need to be strung together:

Quote
We're all used to typing ".com" or ".org" into a browser to access a website. And we all know that if you want your own ".com", you just have to buy one from a registrar. But how many people actually know what a registrar is? Where did they originally get those names?

...

Unfortunately, there's more to it than bloated costs and barriers to entry. Traditional DNS is highly centralized and susceptible to censorship and man-in-the-middle attacks. Even Google has had its SSL certificates compromised by spy agencies, without their knowledge or permission.

...

With .p2p, you can buy a name at a fair market price and have confidence that your users can connect securely.

Here's Namecoin working on the same thing:
