General Discussion / Re: Announcing Angel Shares & BitShares Allocation
« on: December 26, 2013, 02:07:58 am »
Seems like "we will release bitshares in Q1 2014" and "angelshares will be released over 200 days" are incompatible. What am I missing?

You are missing that AGS is for more than just BTS and that BTS will scale ownership proportional to the AGS supply at launch.

Ah, that makes sense.

What time zone are you using for determining which day a donation appeared?

I believe it's a separate field. Check out this page: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transactions

The signature on the transaction won't be valid. Very roughly speaking, a signature is like "decrypting" the plaintext message with the private key. Then anyone can check if the transaction is valid by "encrypting" the signature with the public key and checking that it matches the original message.

Keyhotee / Re: How will founder IDs be distributed?
« on: December 24, 2013, 10:17:00 pm »
Transferring all your PTS to one address just means there is now one private key instead of several that control your shares. If you had them all in one wallet before, then it makes no difference security-wise (well, except that it's easier to brute-force all your shares, but that's not something you should be worried about). Since you already got your MMC there's no need to keep your old private keys around, though they will still be in your original wallet in case you want them for some reason.

As far as your bid goes, it makes no difference. As far as I can tell I3 is just associated your email with the PTS address you sent your coins to.

You would have 0.4 MMC

Keyhotee / How will founder IDs be distributed?

Since IDs are non-transferrable, how will I end up with a unique private key that ties to my name? Will I3 distribute keypair generation code between christmas and new years, and then we have to send the public key to I3 to include in the genesis block?

You don't need to delete everything, just replace the wallet file with the one you want to restore.
Hope you haven't been waiting for the blockchain to download every time!

Pretty strong C, Python, Haskell, and Java skills. I'm still in college but have about 1 year professional experience via internships.

You should give me one-off programming tasks that won't go in any official releases.

edit: spelling
