Don't forget to check "vesting <accountname>" in the console, since those don't appear in your GUI balance.

General Discussion / Re: why bitUSD Yield still so high?
« on: August 02, 2015, 05:58:02 pm »
Because fees / yield are paid out over 1 year, but only if you hold the BitUSD for 1 year do you get 100% of the yield.   Everyone who bails early leaves more yield on the table for those who are holding on.

The end result is that we have a yield pool based on old income when the BitUSD supply was over 600K and interest was being paid.   The supply shrank to 150K but the "collected fees" didn't shrink so "collected fees" is now a larger percentage of supply than it was in the past.

does the estimated yield adjust dynamically with market price for bitUSD? it doesn't seem like that yield number changes too dramatically, but we've seen big swings in BTS price of bitUSD.

Yield is paid into the pool by shorts paying whatever they choose. Yield is paid out of the pool at a fixed %/block. Shorts were willing to pay a ton at first, and then over time the amount shorts wanted to pay went down and so did bitUSD supply, which kept the yield pretty steady.

they can easily  short  at 0 interest&buy bitUSD at the same time  to get bitUSD to cover  high interest short orders
but they didn't

The high yield is coming from interest that was already paid - I'm sure most shorts have rolled over to low %s

Thanks, I'll fix this when I get home

I've found that the only really reliable option is the linux CLI client on a machine with plenty of RAM. I had a vps just for bitshares at one point.

Technical Support / Re: ETA on 2.0?

Once again the best possible answer to this will come from a Fairlay prediction, not the devs. Someone page that guy, I'll throw at least 1 BTC at predicting

Why on earth would you use IOUs when ETH is a perfect candidate for a bitasset?
Just need to find someone to pay the asset fee..

I'm helping rune with this. In ethereum it is just easier to develop dynamic, self-modifying systems that still follow clear, pre-defined rules. BTS chose the "specialization" route, so we should push that advantage. If Maker adds a killer feature, BTS can create a more efficient version of it.

Maker is defined by its own consensus and so could migrate onto BTS or another graphene chain

solidity is just super fun and we have an opportunity to push our competitive advantage from our sweet system framework, which will let us do stuff like add all the smart assets on ether into Maker for backing dai without disrupting the network

I manage dev0.nikolai and dev-trial.misc.nikolai
I plan to run a witness node in bts 2

Front running is an artificial issue created by those with an entitlement attitude.   They want everyone to be "equal" and believe that just because they see an order book they are automatically entitled to get their order in.

If you remove any sense of entitlement from the equation, then what you have are a set of rules where the profits go to those who can react the fastest.   Some people are just jealous of others who seem to get "free money" simply by being fast.   But this is not the case.  Front runners are competing against each other and are still exposed to market risk.

Let those who are able pick up pennies in front of a steamroller and don't hate them for their speed.   They provide liquidity and the profits they earn help everyone.

I agree with the general response against criticisms of front-running. I think the argument here, though, is that witnesses running this algorithm are analogous to a centralized exchange transparently front-running everyone, which is still bad because information providers have no incentive to contribute (so you better hope your witnesses are either ALL not greedy, or are great traders on their own). Traders will go where they can make more money.

prediction markets without smart coins don't work.    The volatility of the underlying asset overwhelms any profit or loss made by predicting the outcome of the event.
That's what the multidemnsional msr is for. The interface can handle making it look like a dollar-denominated bet for a single event. There are disadvantages (you need to "sync" with usd price close time) but it's not nearly as bad as you're implying
