MemoryCoin / [ANN] MMC-Square.com
« on: April 03, 2014, 01:42:56 am »
We have launched the MMC-Square.com website as an attempt to reduce redundancy between all of the Memory Coin Websites, and would also like to detach part of the MMC community from the parent BitShares forum.

https://www.mmc-square.com/

The website gives us more power over who is allowed to participate in discussion.
We have more control over organizing and replying to the community, rather than reading stickies and a long feed of topics.

The board is still in the process of becoming populated and vitalized. In a few hours I'd expect some helpful topics to be put up for new MMC Adopters and coming miners.

We are also looking for a board moderator who will moderate the specific board rules for each category.

Once you join, you will be able to participate in the boards frequent activities, contests, and events as the team and I are still working on Memory Coin. You will also have direct instant access to any interviews and public relations that any of our officers put out.

MMC-Square is a discussion board, an important way to connect to the MMC community. It won't always be just a forum.

In the coming weeks, we will implement a home page and several other features that improves the way we present ourselves to the newest and current Memory Coin adopters.

Of course, we will all still remain active on the https://bitsharestalk.org/ child forum.

MemoryCoin / [CEO] Delinquency
« on: March 29, 2014, 07:54:49 pm »
I'd like to announce my candidacy for CEO.
I am a long term supporter of Memory Coin and have been here since the second launch (Dec. 15, 2013).

Where's FreeTrade?
I would not like to say anything bad about FreeTrade but he has been inactive on the forums for the past few weeks and I believe a new CEO must be named.
Since the mining period is more than 60% complete -- FreeTrade has already received the majority of the coins to be given as a candidate and I believe I can help bring some needed exposure to the coin.

Introduction

I'm 20 years old and reside in the US. I work alone, hit the gym everyday for about two hours, and trade the Foreign Exchange Markets. I'm not a very profitable Foreign Exchange Trader [with 1.5 Years Experience] and along with the markets, I also have ample time to meticulously to view any activity on the Memory Coin Forum. I can also use this time to fulfill my duties as CEO.
I've had experience in operating Linux Servers and have invested moderately in MMC Mining within the first week of the launch. As a miner, I know how it feels to have the value of a coin you believe in flip upside down because of some things that you cannot control. The golden mining opportunity of MMC is that once you buy new hardware to mine it, you can easily use that equipment somewhere else.
I've been a strong believer in MMC and think that not only is it a good coin, it is created to profit investors and holders in the long run. With inflation at only 2% once the mining period is complete and Kimoto Gravity Re targeting, it will survive for a long time while other coins see huge volatility swings in their value. It's completely better than any fiat currency because their inflation is not set at 2% -- They need the bank to use 'tools' in order to preserve those inflation levels and target other social problems.
The block chain election hasn't been completely utilized. Big MMC holders are not voting enough, and elections are almost completely unanimous. There are no 2nd preference candidates working for a win. I think that the block chain must be competitive in order for this coin to succeed. That's why I will be working for this title as CEO.

I, as well as FreeTrade, believe that CEO's main job is to increase the value of the coin for the shareholders.

My Core Ideas
  • The Block Chain Elections should be active, as they are one of the few incentives to hold coin from circulation.
  • Memorycoin should be easy to use even 'for your grandmother'.
  • Memorycoin should be better than Bitcoin in the long run
  • Investors should see a stable and consistent increase in the value of their Memorycoin.
  • Exchanges should come to us, not us to them.
  • Promote the preservation of the increasing value of the coin.
  • Maintain daily communications with ALL current candidates
  • Create bounties and contests for the community to put in some hard work for the coin
  • Announce all work and coin transactions to the community

Current Plans
  • Equip Memory Coin with the capabilities of infecting the world through viral and social media.
  • Holding meetings with candidates at a Universally Coordinated Time to discuss plans for the coin.
  • Create a new website and forums that is dedicated to MMC.
  • Upgrade all mining statistics and instructions on how to improve performance when mining MMC.
  • Promote Community Support
  • Dedicate all earnings to this coin. I will only keep a modest portion of my block-chain reward.
  • Revamp a new MMC Commercial designed to 'teach' others what cryptocurrencies are, downplay bitcoin, and promote MMC.

If you have any comments or concerns, please post a reply to this topic.

MemoryCoin / Memorycoin's Bull Run
« on: March 22, 2014, 03:40:48 am »
MMC is definitely as low as it can go.

Supply is almost cut into 1/2 and will continue to decrease. The mining investment period is almost over.

Expect a big boost in demand once our devs release more useful projects and the CHA candidate position starts making some donations.

MemoryCoin / Changing Votes
« on: March 17, 2014, 07:47:12 am »
I see the whole system of moving all of your MMC to another wallet as a hassle just to switch voting for a certain candidate.

Is there a way to send a satoshi to a reset address to just reset or change any or all of your votes?

I'm sure there are multiple ways for the blockchain to do this, and generally, the coin should be more user friendly when changing votes.

I just got onto the top 100 list and hope to join the top 10 eventually.

MemoryCoin / Fulfill your Duties as a Community
« on: March 16, 2014, 12:22:09 pm »
With some of the officers doing close to zip, the community doesn't receive status updates as often as they had hoped. None of us are getting updates and the only person with adequate activity is Tomorrow. However, I don't know if some of our officers have gone rogue - sold their MMC for a vacation -- We really will not know if they're actually putting work into the coin or just being negligent.

I'm accumulating mmc en masse at this price. I got a few ASIC's and am investing in MMC in hopes to revive this coin with my voting powers. Hopefully if enough of us just withdraw our coins from bter and start voting, becoming an officer will require more than just a fancy post.

We will start a union and spoil all non-compliant officers who do not follow our guidelines. It can possibly consist of a chat channel or subforum that should be checked every 24 hours so that votes may be updated.

Who would like to start by suggesting a detailed structure for the union? (MAXPWR, Please don't relpy with your thoughts and suggestions. They're too confusing.)

There should be a oath or such that the officer must follow otherwise their candidacy will be spoiled.

MemoryCoin / Pool Decentralization
« on: March 15, 2014, 06:46:07 am »
A couple of tough miners left 1gh and the difficulty dropped down.

There's about 50% total mining hashpower in mmcpool now.

Let's see what happens because the mining market is shifting its focus.

MemoryCoin / Thoughts/Suggestions about the Memorycoin.org Template
« on: February 27, 2014, 02:11:56 am »
Anyone else like/love the new template?

The only thing I despise is the flash back-end, though amazingly appealing. It takes too long to load the webpages on both my Android and PC [2-3 seconds].

A good rule for designing webpages is that they must be instantly loaded.

MemoryCoin / [GUIDE] Headless ATI/AMD Scrypt Middlecoin GPU Mining Tutorial
« on: February 17, 2014, 08:45:19 pm »
This guide will help you run an scrypt miner more efficiently and headless as compared to a VRAM consuming KDE on your mining rig.

Unrelated to Memorycoin, however, this guide suggests to promote the sale of Memorycoin through BTC.
To generate a BTC Address, create an account on BTer, generate a BTC address, then use that address to mine Middlecoin, receive BTC, then buy MMC and withdraw to your MMC wallet.

Middlecoin generally has a 4% fee but always mines the most profitable scrypt coin on the market.

Now let's get to the guide.

[Note: This is a similar guide to mine MMC, but with more steps to compile CGminer.]

Steps
1. Download the latest Debian Net installer and put it on a USB drive/disk [Note: a USB Drive is faster and environmentally friendly]

Pen Drive Linux (Universal USB Installer)
Code: [Select]
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ Debian 7.4.0 64-bit Net Installer [Mirror: Steadfast.net]
Code: [Select]
http://mirror.steadfast.net/debian-cd/7.4.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-7.4.0-amd64-netinst.iso Debian 7.4.0 32-bit Net Installer [Mirror: Steadfast.net]
Code: [Select]
http://mirror.steadfast.net/debian-cd/7.4.0/i386/iso-cd/debian-7.4.0-i386-netinst.iso

2. Install.
Only select the packages for boxes SSH Server and Standard System Utilities. Uncheck the desktop environment and others.
Tip: Use the cdn.debian.net mirror when selecting the package server.

3. Login to your server through SSH or use the console.

4. Add 'non-free' and 'contrib' to the end of each deb line in /etc/apt/sources.list
Quote
apt-get update; apt-get install nano -y;
nano /etc/apt/sources.list;

It should look something like this:
Code: [Select]
deb http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free
deb-src http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy main

deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main

# wheezy-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy-updates main

5. Now install the required packages. [Not sure if you need libudev-dev]
Code: [Select]
apt-get clean && apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
apt-get -fy install bzip2 fglrx-driver libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev libudev-dev ntp screen unzip xdm xorg
apt-get -fy purge libfglrx
apt-get -fy install firmware-linux-nonfree
apt-get clean

6. Download the latest AMD Catalyst Drivers from the AMD website.
This step may be annoying because AMD's website requires a web referrer to download any file on their server through wget. An alternative would be to upload it to a web server or even just upload it to your server through SFTP.

Quote
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Linux+x86
a. Please place the AMD Catalyst Drivers Archive into the /root or base directory.

7. Unzip and run the file.
Quote
cd ~ && unzip amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.zip && sh amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.run --force
Accept all the dialogues.

8. Download the AMD APP SDK
Code: [Select]
http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/heterogeneous-computing/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk/downloads/
Code: [Select]
AMD-APP-SDK-v2.9-lnx64.tgz
OR
AMD-APP-SDK-v2.9-lnx32.tgz

a. Upload the tgz archive onto your server. (preferably in /root)

b. Install AMD APP SDK
Code: [Select]
cd ~;mkdir app-sdk && cd app-sdk && tar xzf ~/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.9-lnx*.tgz && sh Install-AMD-APP.sh && cd ..Accept all the dialogues and continue.

9. Fix the X-Server settings
Code: [Select]
rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf && aticonfig --adapter=all --initial
10. Add this bottom of your /etc/profile file
Quote
nano /etc/profile
Code: [Select]
export DISPLAY=:0
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
export XAUTHORITY=/.Xauthority
11. Restart.
Code: [Select]
'reboot'
12. Download and untar cgminer 3.7.2
Code: [Select]
cd ~;wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/3.7/cgminer-3.7.2.tar.bz2
tar jxf cgminer-3.7.2.tar.bz2

13. Download the ADL_SDK Libraries
Code: [Select]
http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/graphics-development/display-library-adl-sdk/
a. Unzip and extract ADL_SDK in its own folder; Take what is required from the library and place it in the cgminer's compilation directory.
Code: [Select]
cd ~;mkdir ADL_SDK;cd ADL_SDK; unzip ../ADL_SDK_6.0.zip
cp include/*.h ../cgminer-3.7.2/ADL_SDK/

b. Change directory to the cgminer-3.7.2:
Code: [Select]
cd ~/cgminer-3.7.2;
14. Compile!
Code: [Select]
CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=native -I/opt/AMDAPP/include" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/AMDAPP/lib/x86_64" ./configure --enable-opencl --enable-scrypt --without-libudev

Note: If you compiling on 32-bit, you may want to find the real LDFLAGS= directory for AMD_APP Lib in /opt/AMDAPP/lib/ with your OS's architecture. [Presumably x86, i386 or something.]

a. Install:
Code: [Select]
make; make install; cp cgminer ~; cd ~; chmod +x cgminer
15. Run!
Voila! Your cgminer executable is now located in the root folder.

Run it!
Code: [Select]
~/cgminer
16. Post Install: CGMiner Settings

Input the URL as
Code: [Select]
middlecoin.com:3333
Username:
Code: [Select]
BTER's BTC Wallet Deposit Address
Password:
Code: [Select]
ANY
Wait for your GPU to start mining!

To fine-tune your configuration, modify the cgminer.conf at ~/.cgminer/cgminer.conf.

Code: [Select]
nano ~/.cgminer/cgminer.conf
a. You can find your Miner Stats at this address:
Code: [Select]
http://www.middlecoin.com/reports/BTCWALLETADDRESS.html
b. Auto-Start upon reboot

Add this to your crontab -e:
Code: [Select]
crontab -e:

MemoryCoin / [GUIDE] Headless ATI/AMD Memorycoin GPU Mining Tutorial
« on: February 15, 2014, 02:09:30 am »
Want to run the MMC Miner on your debian server without a hassle? Well now you can with this tutorial!

Note: I tried Lubuntu and Xubuntu and even Ubuntu to run the GPU MMC Miner, but this setup is more efficient and  headless.

Steps:
1. Download the latest Debian Net installer and put it on a USB drive/disk [Note: a USB Drive is faster and environmentally friendly]
Pen Drive Linux (Universal USB Installer)
Code: [Select]
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ Debian 7.4.0 64-bit Net Installer  [Mirror: Steadfast.net]
Code: [Select]
http://mirror.steadfast.net/debian-cd/7.4.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-7.4.0-amd64-netinst.iso Debian 7.4.0 32-bit Net Installer [Mirror: Steadfast.net]
Code: [Select]
http://mirror.steadfast.net/debian-cd/7.4.0/i386/iso-cd/debian-7.4.0-i386-netinst.iso

2. Install.
Only select the packages for boxes SSH Server and Standard System Utilities. Uncheck the desktop environment and others.
Tip: Use the cdn.debian.net mirror when selecting the package server.

3. Login to your server through SSH or use the console.

4. Add 'non-free' AND 'contrib' to the end of each deb line in /etc/apt/sources.list
Quote
apt-get update; apt-get install nano -y;
nano /etc/apt/sources.list;

It should look something like this:
Code: [Select]
deb http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free
deb-src http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy main

deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main

# wheezy-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://cdn.debian.net/debian/ wheezy-updates main

5. Now install the required packages. [Not sure if you need libncurses5-dev and libudev-dev]
Code: [Select]
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
apt-get install bzip2 fglrx-driver libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev libudev-dev ntp screen unzip xdm xorg
apt-get purge libfglrx
apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree
apt-get clean

6. Download the latest AMD Catalyst Drivers from the AMD website.
This step may be annoying because AMD's website requires a web referer to download any file on their server through wget. An alternative would be to upload it to a web server or even just upload it to your server through SFTP.

Quote
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Linux+x86

7. Unzip and run the file.
Quote
unzip amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.zip && sh amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.run --force
Accept all the dialogues.

8. Fix up the X-Server settings:
Code: [Select]
rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf && aticonfig --adapter=all --initial
9. Add this your /etc/profile file:
Quote
nano /etc/profile
Code: [Select]
export DISPLAY=:0
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
export XAUTHORITY=/.Xauthority

10. Restart. 'reboot'

11. You'll get a lousy glibc error when you try to start the gpu miner. (from mmcpool's GPU Miner)
There is an easy fix - ADD THIS to your /etc/apt/sources.list:

Quote
deb http://cdn.debian.net/debian testing main

  Now install the necessary packages:
Code: [Select]
apt-get update && apt-get -t testing install libc6-dev
Accept all the dialogues in order to install this package.

12. Download the latest MMC-Minerd Package and unzip it using TAR
Note: The download link may change if there is an update. I am also referring to mmcpool's GPU miner because it is more stable than 1gh's and promotes pool decentralization.
Quote
cd ~;wget http://dl.mmcpool.com/gpu/mmcpool-gpu-miner-ubuntu-x64.tgz?tm=1392439225243; tar -xvf *.tgz;chmod +x start.sh;chmod +x minerd-mmc

13. Run it with your wallet address.

Quote
./minerd-mmc WALLETID 0

14. Post Install:

'apt-get install screen'
If you install screen you can use the command:
Code: [Select]
screen -mDs mmc-miner ~/minerd-mmc WALLETID &
and even add it to the bottom of
'crontab -e'
[Untested. You may need to fine tune a delay after your system starts up, or even use some other method of running the miner upon startup.]
Code: [Select]
@reboot screen -mDs mmc-miner ~/minerd-mmc WALLETID &

Warning: Please remove the line with testing in /etc/apt/sources.list after installing the necessary libc library or your system may break.
Quote
#COMMENT IT OUT deb http://cdn.debian.net/debian testing main

The MMC GPU Miner is easier to install and run compared to compiling Scrypt's cgminer.

Looks like the price of MMC is well around the electricity required to generate it. [[According to GPU's]]
My electricity is around $0.18 to $0.24 per kWh.

For now I will hold my MMC but will sell to Stop loss immediately to breakeven on electricity costs.

Use your BTC to make a buy order above the highest bid price.
Move all of your MMC out of bter.

Move it to a personal wallet.
export that wallet to a USB flash drive or Disc.

Now save the address and put it away in a safe place.
Point your miners to the address.

delete the wallet.dat on your PC and then create a new wallet. ( your old wallet is saved)

So now, you are not a seller of MMC, you are "buying" MMC by sending all your mined MMC to this saved wallet.

This is how you can raise the price.

Oh, and you can also pledge not to sell MMC for 1 year.

MemoryCoin / GPU Miner - Ubuntu Configuration (X server issues)
« on: January 18, 2014, 08:06:36 am »
I'm running the radeon fglrx non-free drivers on Xubuntu to run my GPU Miner.

However, the command aticonfig tool only works on the desktop that runs on the server. I'm only able to run the GPU miner on the desktop hooked up to the server.

This command does not work on an SSH session, nor does the gpu miner find my GPU card.
Error for aticonfig : X Server must be running for AMD " " to run ...

Running it on the desktop is problematic because the GPU miner also somehow consumes a significant amount of CPU, reducing the CPU mining by about 45%.

How can I run the GPU miner remotely from a command line, or better yet, how would I just have it run on startup from crontab without an error?
