Technical Support / Meaning of "free to use for BitShares" (license)
« on: June 18, 2015, 05:20:38 pm »
BM mentioned that graphene is "free to use for Bitshares". How is "Bitshares" exactly defined here? Does it mean: For any chain that is dropping 100% on BTS? What other use cases are there that fall under this free to use category?

General Discussion / Toolkit and sharedrop concept abolished?
« on: June 15, 2015, 03:02:06 pm »
Gamey mentioned in another threat (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,16939.msg216675.html#msg216675) that the toolkit idea would be gone with 2.0. I am not so sure.
With the licensing of graphene has it become more likely that the graphene code is used in combination with a sharedrop on AGS/PTS/CNX holders?

Technical Support / compiling on linux -> locale issue
« on: June 03, 2015, 10:02:48 pm »
Hi,

so I attempted to compile according to this https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/blob/master/BUILD_UBUNTU.md on a debian 64 bit system.

There is a newly added instruction
Code: [Select]
export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8"Doing this produced the follwoing error for me: "warning setlocale lc_all cannot change locale (en_us.utf-8)" (I left out a few signs because that is from memory).
I ignored it... and compiled (make).
Later in the make process I got an error that might be related to the above or not. I dont have an internet connection on the respective machine and didnt want to type it all so here is a photo I made of the error message: http://imgur.com/SGQ7FaX
Don't be confused by the blue background. The blue and the grey background are the same. The blue is marked stuff...

Whats wrong? What should I do? Can I give more information?

Thanks for your help!

General Discussion / Commercial taint analysis

Is that possible with BTS too?

I guess the most harm they could do is slow down the network (or DDOS it completely if they had all nodes). Correct?

General Discussion / Chinese market
« on: March 02, 2015, 02:26:32 pm »
First, a great thanks to our fellow Chinese community members (Chinese forum community, investors and entrepreneurs)!

Here is an interview that is very much worth reading https://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/a-chinese-lawyers-thoughts-on-crypto

The Chinese market especially the online retail market is tremendous and growing! http://www.kpmg.com/CN/en/IssuesAndInsights/ArticlesPublications/Newsletters/China-360/Documents/China-360-Issue15-201401-E-commerce-in-China.pdf

A have a (hopefully) simple question: Is it legal in China to accept crypto currencies like Bitcoin / BitCNY as payment?

Technical Support / To all newbies: What brought you here?
« on: February 25, 2015, 06:38:07 pm »
It seems there are many new people here on the forum lately. I would be very helpful and interesting to know....

1) how you found Bitshares
2) and what sparked your interest enough to begin posting on this forum.

In addition the the poll above, please make a quick comment that specifies your vote: which article, which youtube video etc. And what argument, attitude or Bitshares feature has triggered your interest.

Your help is much appreciated!  :)

EDIT:
First result: Reddit isn't as important as we think it might be. Possible reason: Reddit/Bitcoin attracks a lot of people that know what they want anyway and seek for affirmation of their opinion (that Bitcoin is the holy grail).

EDIT 2: Coinmarketcap.com has been added as a voting option on June, 20th, 2015.

Random Discussion / Entrepreneurial mindset...insipration

Has been a great inspiration to me.

Side note:Min 2:06  "At Tesla we never spent any money on advertising. We put all energy into making the best product possible". (personal comment: Makes sense if marketing is not confused with PR and Business development)

... is the Bitshares community.

I think that our community members don't trade less than other crypto communities. We mostly do it on centralized exchanges and yet we try to convince Bitcoiners to use our exchange :)

Why do we mostly use centralized exchanges?
- Little liquidity on the DEX for BitBTC.
- Wallet not stable enough (for old computers).
- Other reasons?

How can we change this (practical / entrepreneurial efforts like Rune's and monsterer's)?

Quote
As with its original BitLicense proposal, DFS will accept comments, but only for thirty days in this round. At the expiration of those thirty days, DFS will likely prepare a final version and then publish it in the state Register. DFS extended the last comment period in response to industry outcries for more time. I doubt that there will be an extension granted, so if you plan to file a comment, it should be done quickly.

Who should file a comment? Altcoin developers might want the final rule to more clearly define what it means to “administer” a digital currency. Multisig developers might ask for a clearer definition of custody, “controlling” or “holding”. They might even argue for a specific exemption.

Not so sure if a comment regarding delegates makes sense ...

Counterparty and Ethereum would probably implement BitAssets via a turing complete environment. What would such an implementation suffer from?

I had a conversation with the Counterparty guys (rational folks) which brought up this question, see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395761.msg10396898#msg10396898

Stakeholder Proposals / Delegates reports
« on: January 25, 2015, 05:37:24 pm »
All delegates should make reports like this https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=12821.msg168637#msg168637

1. What have I done (during the last x weeks)...
- ...with the delegate income in case it is not only income.
- ...in terms of work.

2. What will I do (in the next x weeks).

This is not more than adequate for a system where individuals work together without having seen each other before and without an organizational layer that makes sure that shareholders' interests are met (like a board of directors).

BM also strongly recommended this in the latest mumble session.
