Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Proxy: jakub

Your posts / thoughts always seemed to be grounded in rationality.

You have my vote too. Just have to finally import to 2.0... ;)

I think the general concept proposed by the OP is an extremely powerful idea. It could be an open source forum like "Simple Machines" and allow all those forum operators to deploy a forum with financial transactions and social currencies (user issued assets) and it shows the power of the referal system!

Technical Support / Re: New Tutorial Video - How bitUSD Works
« on: October 18, 2015, 06:37:11 pm »
Here's my latest contribution to the community based on the frustrations and confusion I've been reading in the forums.

I'm learning as I teach which is why I'm calling this open source training.

Excellent simple explanation.

I am a bit divided on whether mentioning that there is actually always a bigger amount of collateral backing 1 bitusd than 1 bitusd is worth.

General Discussion / Re: Identifying BitShares' Monsters. (Phase I)
« on: October 18, 2015, 10:08:55 am »
From time to time it is good to look at where we are and identify what is required to make bts the best it can be.  Having a few focal points of established roadblocks that require our utmost attention, is imperative to most effectively help the dev team and community press forward in assuring bts remains in its rightful place.

This community is very active, but are we focusing our efforts and working together to work on the highest priority issues?  I call these issued bitshares' monsters.  And id like to form Raids of people to slay them...and pay them for leading and/or attending these raids.

If you could pick 3 of the monsters that most plague bts' growth and adoption, what would they be?
CNX could do better at (and therefore help Bitshares):
1. Forming trust and reputation retaining partnerships
2. PR: Managing public expectations and building a conscise brand

General Discussion / Re: we should focus on simple business
« on: October 17, 2015, 02:28:47 pm »
look at the price, even less than dogcoin. our target is too great, even can't understand by the world. no real user at these two years.
I think we can focus on simple business, such as trade.BTC exchange, fiat gateway, DACX
people can accept these more easy. and it can be a big business.

when we can get much real user, we can begin smart asset. It will be more easy with a lot of active user.
I think there is a simple reason for the low BTS price in general: The Bitcoin / altcoin trading markets are full of idiology driven projects and traders so the market has a hard time figuring out the value of BTS. It will take a while for this whole market to get more professional and rational (real world use case and profit driven). But if it does BTS will be among the most valuable public blockchain projects.

Technical Support / Re: Privacy warning

So first create an account with a random account name and then import my keys from my BTS 1 wallet? If I do this does it matter to the purpose of keeping my privacy whether my BTS1 account name from which I exported the keys that I now import is linked to my identity?

In case you didn't know, privacy is currently OFF by default in Graphene. If someone knows your account name, they can see all your balances and activity, unless you are using Confidential Transactions (not yet available in the GUI).

Simply hit Explorer, then Accounts, and you get this page: https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/explorer/accounts. Then you can search anyone's account by name. For example, here's Fav's account, one of our favorite forum regulars: https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/account/fav

If you value your privacy, act accordingly, perhaps by using an account name that isn't easily associated with your identity.

Have fun!
Is it correct that no one can see anyone's balance unless funds are transferred without the stealth mode? And then (no stealth mode used with transfer) only the amount tansfered is visible and to who it was sent?

And is is at all possible to keep your privacy when you import your keys / funds from Bitshares 0.9.3...? If it is possible what do I have to do in order to keep my privacy?

Dear community,

we're still being attacked by people that run bots to create domain-like names on our blockchain, hoping to sell them one day.

It seems that over 3000 accounts were created since launch. BM has adjusted the creation fee to 5 BTS. Unfortunately after lifetime cashback, that equals a 1BTS fee, which is not enough to deterrent those spammers.

Therefore, I propose to adjust the account creation fee to 95 BTS. This equals a net fee of 19 BTS after 80% cashback. Since the fee is still below 100 BTS, it will not vest for 90 days, thus causing no trouble for our public faucets.

Please vote for my commitee member mindphlux. I will send a transaction at around 8PM GMT+2 to change the fee, if I get enough votes.

Best regards

The word "Partner" to me is a legal term.

Mark, please definitely change your verbage to something like "is/am/are working with BitShares".

The only real "Partners" that BitShares (a DAC) has really is a blockchain. Without it, neither would profit.
The wording that makes the relationship passiv on the side of Bitshares and CNX would be: "Company xy is making use of the Bitshares blockchain". This way Bitshares and the software dev. company that provides the Software for Bitshares is perceived as a neutral.

Maybe I'm just doing this wrong, but why are there no recent posts about BanxShares anywhere to be found ?
I'd have expected at least some reaction from within the BTS community about the situation, even if was only about how cruel the nasty Nxters are....... ;)
I have no reason to assume that there is some kind of direct fraud involved but the style and the way of selling something like www.banxplatinum.com is totally inappropriate for a Bitshares "partner". By style of selling i mean that you can't  fast forward videos, claiming knowing for certain that Bitcoin will go to the moon, treatening potential customers with "if you don't buy this you will loose the opportunity of the century", bluntly and speculatively overstating things, walls of text without saying what specifically the added value is etc. It's just not worthy to be associated with of a business like Bitshares that tries to bring transparent and measurable added value to people. And the most important part is this: It doesnt even matter what I think about it personally, it is enough that it will shed a negative light on Bitshares / CNX and it's ability to choose "honerable partners". There is a public perception that a busniess is not honerable if it applies sales strategies like the ones described above.
Again, the product may even work! I have no idea. My point is just that the WAY it is sold will shed a negative light on Bitshares because Banx is perceived as a "partner".

I have no reason to assume that the owner of Banx, Mark, does not have the intentions to stick to the specific / measurable promises he made to those he makes business with (his partners and customers) - why should I think differently? But that has to be kept separate from the subjective issues desribed above. Now I think that such critique of subjective matters is justified BECAUSE Banx is presented as a Bitshares "partner"  (and not just as a random business that uses the offerings of the Bitshares exchange network which any business can) - otherwise I wouldnt mind at all.

My specific request for action to Mark: Please either say that you are just a random business utilizing the bitshares exchange network (not a general business partner) or sell by being transparent and not by being intransparent (the banxplatinum offering is an example of selling through intransparency combined with hope).

This is just my own personal opinion as a member of the Bitshares community about which I care.

Fixing that should have a high priority because it could nto end well in terms of puublic perception

General Discussion / Re: New Metric for Blockchain Confirmation
« on: October 12, 2015, 08:30:04 pm »
BM mentioned the last ireversible transaction / block as the secret sauce for tx irreversibility. Does this have to do with this OP? Can someone give a simple explanation how that "last irreversible xy" works?

After 2/3 of all witnesses have signed, they cannot "go back" and sign something else.  We know a fork to an earlier point is impossible without malicious collusion of witnesses.

Does that mean that 2/3 of all witnesses haved signed their respective block within the round? And how is it enforced that they can not go back?
If that can not be explained without a super detailed knowledge of how the protocol works don't mind it.
