BitShares CEX is our brand for our first Commodities EXchange. That would equal the colored coins idea?

I have started hacking on Super3's template and come up with the following layout:

More work to do... but if someone could produce better images for Developers | Angels | Speculators that are all the same size and would look good in this context I would be very happy to integrate them.

here is my opinion:
the picture with the (indian :) ) developers locks a  bit pathetic, "give freedom" sounds very pathetic and maybe a bit overdosed, speculation has a negative connotation (does it? not my native language...), I would prefer investors.

this is a european perspective on marketing... US advertisement tends to be exaggerated / overdosed / promising the magic pill relatively to a European equivalent ...

The http://protoshares.com/ site could more clearly state that (1) PTS holders are guaranteed to get 10 % in every DAC III releases and (2) are guaranteed 50% in the upcoming flagship product Bitshares. That's esentially what PTS are about. All the site says is: When a new DAC gets released all Protoshare holders automatically get a stake in the genesis block. Just import private keys, and enjoy your new coins.

With respect to having a wider audience understand the concepts and invest I would first describe what a DAC is in the most simply yet precise terms (before describing all the features). Something like: A DAC is a decentralized application/cooperation delivering a service by the means of a decentralised network and defined by an open source code. This definition helps people understand roughly what a DAC is about, meaning what its output (some service) and its input (network) and its structure (open source code) is. Just listing all  the feature that can be deducted from this basic understanding (distributed, autonomous, community) doesn't help understanding it.

To use it people need to trust that it will work which doesn't work without understanding it roughly at least. New investors and users want to understand the concept in simple terms - anything that can not be explained in relatively simple terms is not worth looking at further.

Someone else said that texting is a bit behind the technical pioneer work. I think the same and from my perspective the most important point it to explain the user how all the great promises made for example in the bitshares infographic are possible. Simplicity wins. Just promising great things might make it look too good and like a scam.

But I know you are working on it. Maybe the above is helpful to Brian.

To form an opinion on this it would be interesting to know about when the bitshares p2p exchange will come. It would make sense to combine the fiat/IOU exchange with the p2p exchange if  that is possible?

That is what this idea is all about. A P2P exchange platform in the form of a DAC will be built on top of this. Therefor our ideology of privacy and decentralization is not lost and we can simultaneously work on both models: Fiat is there for reaching the masses, the DAC is there for getting them deeper into the ecosystem and spread our intentions.

For all the other replies: I am going to work something out with an individual investors and will discuss this in detail with Dan how we will proceed once we have the platform launched and how we can use the AGS for a DAC-exchange. I will create a thread seeking help soon, but if anyone wants to join this please send me a private message with what you can help with!

Is it technically / by definition possible to have a completely decentralized p2p exchange for fiat/crypto?

i believe it is possible, eMunie is working on a decentralized fiat-->crypto exchange

But how? IOU money has to be stored on some bank account and there has to be someone that is responsible for it...

you should have a look at mastercoin's distribution. I think 3 people have 35%. But I am definitely not sure...

ProtoShares is backed by future DACs. What will Ethereum be backed by?

By the same thing future DACs are backed by, the services it provides.

What are the services it provides (to developers)?

General Discussion / Re: Questions about BitShares white paper

BitShares attempts to arrange for all actors to act proactively to ensure that collateral requirements are met even during the most extreme market fluctuations.  To illustrate how these market forces will interact with the BitShare block-chain rules lets consider some example market situations.

Rapid Fall in BitShare Value
If the value of a BitShare starts to fall rapidly against BitGold, then all shorts in the system will be faced with a ‘squeeze’ which will force them to buy proactively before their margin is called.  If their margin is hit, then they will suffer a 5% fee or worse, complete loss of their collateral.   The result of this short-squeeze is that the value of BitGold would rise dramatically above market value of Gold causing even more shorts to face margin calls.  This would create an opportunity for new shorts to enter market with full collateral backing their new position.  These new shorts would profit when the price settles down after the short-squeeze is over.    As a result all market participants will be pro-active about monitoring the price and their collateral which should result in the minimal amount of volatility.

Does this mean that someone that wants to bet on gold also has to bet on the value of bitshares at the same time ("monitor the price of bitshares") and therefore has to take not only gold but also bitshare BEX into account? The volatility of Bitshares will at the start be so much higher than the volatility of gold so how can bitshares BEX be used to speculate on Gold?

I am not a native speaker and I didn't get everything the whitepaper has to say about this. Maybe someone can explain in a bit easier terms? What does squeeze  mean for example? I mean I know what it means in general but not in that context...

BitShares PTS / Re: GPU Mining and the market price of PTS
« on: January 15, 2014, 11:20:01 pm »
By all appearances, GPUs have had a negligible impact on net processing power. We're still set to drop next difficulty change.

http://mrx.im/pts.php

Also, I think you have the answer in your post: your 18 MH rig is making you less than $100/day on PTS, while you could almost certainly be making more than that mining, well, scrypt.

Why would I mine PTS with an AMD GPU? NVidia is a different story, but again, it does not appear to have affected much.

Anyway, if we believe in what's going on here, we should appreciate this buying opportunity, right?

Did I get that right, that difficulty will go down again at "Time to retarget: 8d 01:08:19 (2014-01-24 09:25:03 UTC+9)"? And this potentially makes the price drop a little?

Clarification: Doe PTS and AGS holders each get 50% in Bitshares x (meaning all Bitshares) or just in bitshares BEX?

We have promised exactly 1 chain to be 50/50; however, unless the other chains require significant extra R&D I can see no rationale to allocate other than 50/50 for all BitShares X chains.

+ 1 :)

It might be innovative (with some technical points and with regard to attracting a lot of developers to the project) from which I3 can learn and improve on! But the given economic model is not likely to give great ROI. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412878.140 (page 8, my and other's comments)
