General Discussion / Re: What if we let the registrars set the LTM price?
« on: February 04, 2016, 01:59:43 pm »
My point is that a user who paid the full price will find out the day after he could have gotten the same thing for free. That is the user experience you are advocating.

Why buy a cow when you can get milk for free?

Your idea undermines the entire referral system.

Maybe you can have it so the referrer can reduce his take and thus make LTM membership cheaper, but the 20% to the network has to be out of the full amount charged for LTM that is set by the network.

I am ready to fund a prize 5000 BTS for best poster, which will help us promote this idea - more details here. Do you know any good graphic designers?

So to answer your question: no, there is no way to create a new account and skip the referral fee.
The referral program would not make sense, if there was a way to avoid paying the referral fee.

So, I need to pay to ccedk (or fav or whoever) at least $80 just because I was signed up by them? Thanks a lot, I am going to skip this. And good luck with such a "smart" marketing.
But over time, you realize savings on every transaction you make and eventually you end up saving more than the $100 you paid to become a lifetime member!

You could ask in the thread dedicated https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,21185.0.html to questions that will go unanswered.

is that  mindphlux????? dump bts???????????

Having a stake in BitShares is not a pre-condition of being a committee member.
For me, @mindphlux can dump his BTS all day long or do whatever he wants with them, and I'm fine with that, as long as he makes good decisions as a committee member.
(Insider trading is not really possible so it's just pure speculative trading on his part.)

But if his dumping is associated with spreading bad PR for BitShares, then it's a different story.

Exactly. Dump just means sell and everyone including the committee is entitled to do what they like. It's called the free market.
That was dumping worthless BTS1 after the upgrade to BTS2 on the exchange that did not upgrade, he admittedly took advantage of that situation it looks like.

You pay 80% of LTM fee to referrer, and only 20% to network.

20% is not a bad reward for zero effort wouldn't you say?

You mean 80% for zero effort? Hell yeah, it is not bad at all for referrers. But it is bad for network. Network needs to have all transaction fees. Referrers need to be refunded for their expenses only.
"Referrers need to be refunded for their expenses only." -- You suggest a referrer should simply break even - wouldn't that give zero incentive to actively refer users? Moreover, you should consider that the cost to acquire a user involves costs for trying unsuccessfully to acquire users who do not sign-up.

If you invest in BTS, you have incentive to bring more users right away. More active users, better for BTS. If this is not enough incentive to you, then BTS is worthless. Referrers should be discouraged to create accounts which are never used. Those are spamers.
A referrer earns 0 from accounts that are created and never used, so they are naturally discouraged to not create accounts that are not used.

I just talked with the FMV team and they have plans to launch a service on the BTS chain this year.

The year has come and gone, FMV has yet to "launch a service on the BTS chain".  But they did just register Merit, sure hope it is something worthwhile.

Believe me, BTSX would not have wanted to face VOTE as a competitor!
Fmv is the cornerstone of my marketing strategy.

General Discussion / Re: Someone Give Me a Reason To Keep Holding BTS
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:47:25 am »
BitShares 2.0 has been in development for over a year, it was announced 6 months ago, but it had secretly been in development for the 6 months prior to that, with only the CNX insiders and a handful of project owners - some of which have subsequently pitched their project and then ditched their project - were in the know. From a shareholder perspective, I found this kind of secretiveness dubious. BitShares 2.0 was announced and it sounded good, and so I mistakenly bought more at a price significantly north of where it is now. However, the exchange portion is pretty sweet and I consider the opinions of some on here that say the functionality will be of some great use for something or somebody soon that I continue to hold, I hope that this includes some cool applications like those mentioned in this thread.

@fav Lottoshares forum to the graveyard?

Others my want to know about getting there money back for now. Then the graveyard.
It would be prudent if they posted a message about that on the lottoshares homepage, instead the website appears to be business as usual and you can still donate to the project!
