Technical Support / Who is still working on Bitshares?
« on: November 28, 2016, 10:28:28 pm »
Hi everybody.

Sorry for the dumb questions but it's been a while since I loss track of what happens with Bitshares so I am trying to catch up now. Is the protocol still actively developped? Any important milestones in view? Is bytemaster still working on it or did he go full Steemit?

General Discussion / Is the decentralized exchange working?
« on: April 30, 2016, 12:48:00 pm »
Serious and honest question.

Lately Bitstamp became ultra-regulated. All centralized exchanges will follow the same path. The value proposition of decentralized exchange will become obvious to a lots of people interested in wealth preservation.

I don't have time to allocate to follow the ever changing development plans of Bitshares. But the more time goes on, the more I understand that a well functionning DEx is paramount to the crypto-ecosystem and will be the cornestone of the political revolution triggered by technology.

So, is the Bitshares DEx usable? user-friendy? How is the liquidity? Is it still a central part of Bitshares development plan?

Technical Support / Trying to catch up
« on: September 18, 2015, 02:54:12 pm »
Hi,

It's been since at least 6 months that I haven't follow the developments here. I have done some research but I cannot understand exactly what's is going on with all the projects. I have several questions regarding the shares in the different projects and would be happy if someone could answer me:

- So when I left there was a merger between Bitshares and Follow my vote, some BTS were created (from 2 billion to 2.5 billion iiirc), are BTS holders at the date of the snapshot eligible to some of the new BTS created? If yes how do one claim the shares that were created?

With is the new number of shares with BTS 2.0? Still 2.5 billion?

- Regarding Bitshares PLAY and PeerTracks, what an AGS holders is entitled from these two projects?

If not how do you follow the price action? I found poloniex charts very inconvenient.

General Discussion / You should contact Blythe Masters

It seems she might love what Bitshares is doing:

"There are lots of different ways technologically to think
about the question of managing motivation for transaction
processing. The approach you describe is one approach that
exists today, but there are entirely different protocols where
the motivation of a network transaction processor, which is a
less pejorative term for miner, could be to keep the network
safe or functioning because they're users. So you could
imagine a world where you dont have independent miners
who are motivated by the financial return for their mining, but
rather people who have invested in a shared utility who have an
interest in it continuing to work because they are using it to
do whatever it is they do for a living."

Random Discussion / Illegal security offering?
« on: November 17, 2014, 12:24:50 am »
Hi there,

Let's consider a completely hypothetical situation: I want to start a sort of hedge fund that invest in cryptos.

The shares of my fund would be available on a decentralized exchange (NXT AE, Bitshares, Counterparty, whatever...). I wouldn't plan to register with any regulatory organism. I would only invest, increase the wealth of people who trust me, and take a well deserved performance fee. I wouldn't be anonymous, my identity would be disclose. Let's also say I wouldn't accept US investors because the SEC looks annoying (but without any means to enforce the interdiction).

What law am I breaking? What am I risking?

Technical Support / BTSX wallet not opening
« on: October 15, 2014, 03:25:45 pm »
My BTSX wallet no longer open when I try to run it. I had an old version 04.5 or something like that, so I have just installed the 0.4.20 version to see if it solve the problem but still it doesn't working, nothing happen when I try to launch the wallet :(
What could I do?

General Discussion / Are feeds temporary?
« on: September 28, 2014, 12:17:17 pm »
Is the use of feeds to prevent shorting BitAssets when their value go too low a temporary solution or something that will last?

When BTSX will grow, the stakes will get higher and the incentive to manipulate the feeds will increase, what is the mechanism that mitigate this threat?

General Discussion / Manual market making, worth it?
« on: September 25, 2014, 05:21:38 pm »
Hi,

I wish to know if it's possilbe to make a decent profit by spending time doing some non-automated market marking for the BitAssets or a if bot is indispensable for such activity?

General Discussion / Ring signatures with DPOS?
« on: September 16, 2014, 11:09:02 am »
Assuming both statements are true:
- DPOS is a better consensus algorithm than POW
- Ring Signatures offer better quality of privavy than any other techniques

Then there is a urgent need to make a privacy-oriented coin which have DPOS and Ring signature.

Right now Monero is the biggest coin using ring signature, but he also uses POW as consensus algorithm. Many people think he has a potentiel very high market cap because dark liquidity is such a huge market. I agree with that, but if DPOS can added then it would be even better.

Is it technically possible? What are the arguments to not do that?

General Discussion / Little question about the creation of BitAssets
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:48:45 pm »
In initial version without feeds, when the first BitUSD was created, how does the amount collaterized in BTSX was calculated?

I mean the blockchain shouldn't have the information of the value of 1 USD relative to BTSX so how does the blockchain know the amount needed to be collateralized?

General Discussion / Is Bitshares a brand?
« on: August 23, 2014, 08:57:36 am »
Hi,

I am writing a blog post in French about I3, DAC, BitsharesX, etc., and for the sake of precision I just want to know what exactly is Bitshares?
Is it a trademark registered by Invictus or something that every body can use?
