Technical Support / Wallet 0.3 doesn't sync
« on: August 21, 2014, 09:50:29 pm »
Hi,

I had downloaded and installed the wallet v 0.3 but now he doesn't sync anymore. Is it because I should update to a newer?

Sorry if it's a dumb question but I am not a technical guy.

General Discussion / How to make a backup of the BTS?
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:10:24 pm »
I have just installed the GUI wallet and imported my BTS, and now I am wondering how should I make a backup.
Is the password a deterministic seed and thank to it I can have access to my BTS on any computer or should I still make some sort of wallet.dat file?

General Discussion / Why don't create just an altcoin?
« on: August 06, 2014, 06:13:19 pm »
If one of Bitcoin weakness is scalability and if DPOS solves that issue, why don't release a DPOS coin that has the sole purpose to be a BTC competitor? That say, a coin which is useless besides that you can send and receive it.

I know you will tell me that it's logically better to add more features, but maybe less is more in this case. Maybe people will use DACs but not use them as money because they don't like the uncertainty linked to the viability of the business model of each DAC.

Or maybe people won't use DACs because of wathever flaw generated by the layer of complexity that DAC's additional features are bringing, but they would use a DPOS coin because it's scale better.

General Discussion / Stripe perspective
« on: July 21, 2014, 10:38:53 pm »
An interesting reading from Stripe people on what will be the future of the crypto economy: https://stripe.com/blog/bitcoin-the-stripe-perspective

Honestly what they describe is a watered down version of what I have in mind, a sort of worst case scenario. But I remember heard Marc Andreesen saying that all people at the begining of the Web thought Internet would be bigger than it is today. Maybe its an human tendancy to overestimate how the world will change because of a technology, maybe Stripe guys are closer from the truth than me.

Technical Support / My PTS wallet no longer synchronizes
« on: May 25, 2014, 12:23:19 pm »
Hi, since few days I have the message "no block source available" (protoshares-qt, version 0.4) and therefore the wallet doesn't download the blockchain.

Please explain me what should I do to make it works!

General Discussion / Crypto-hedging will be a big market.
« on: May 05, 2014, 08:20:45 pm »
There is an interesting Reddit post about Circle, a well founded start-up who looks like it will be a very serious player in the future crypto landscape: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/24s2yz/circle_offers_more_product_clues_at_the_mit/

This is relevant to Bitshares X because there are clues about their future services, rather mysterious until now. And it appears they will provide, beside easy buying and secure storage, a stability of price thanks to some sort of "dollar-denominated bitcoins".

Now I doubt they plan to make that by using directly BitUSD (their customers will want to own $-BTC, not $-BTS), but they will definitely need to use something like BitAssets in order to hedge themselves against volatility.

Worth noticing some people are starting to realize what Bytemaster was the first to say  :)

General Discussion / You should read this

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563925.0

Basically the idea is to fork Ethereum and distribute it to BTC owners.

This is the same idea why I3 explain 3rd party dev should honor AGS/PTS: to maximize the user base. And if they don't want to, we fork it and do it anyway.

But BTC holders >>>> PTS/AGS holders. So basically I3 will loose that game.

Peter R's idea is genius. That will change the crypto landscape forever. Note that BTSX and any DAC that I3 will produce can be forked and be distributed to BTC holders. If I3 was right about user base = value, then that idea is a game changer for every body.

I saw that bytemaster considered makes AGS liquid. Can we have more precise informations about that (yes/no/maybe[which probability], when) so we can make better investment decisions?

General Discussion / Bitshares and anonymity
« on: February 14, 2014, 01:40:01 pm »
First, to what extent Bitshare X will be anonymous? Will it come with a weaker, stronger or same level of anonymity than Bitcoin?

Also, in the first whitepaper bytemaster mentioned an eventual implementation of Zerocoin, but not in the new one.
I understand that this will not come with Bitshare X, but is it still a possibility to implement something like Zerocoin in the following blockchain?

Imho it's a pretty big subject and a feature that is REALLY needed in the future.

General Discussion / What are the incentives to use bitassets?
« on: January 18, 2014, 08:28:55 pm »
The more I think about Bitshare, the more I understand it and the more I am excited about it. But one thing still comes to my mind that I am not sure about it.
Why someone would use bitassets to speculate or hedge against something instead of using what already exist to do so?

5% of interest  seems pretty high to me and even if it's good for bitshares holders it may be a barrier for using bitassets. I mean Bitcoin is adopted because it lower the costs of transfering and storing value. It wouldn't work if it would make the cost of doing these things higher. So I guess my question is what are the cost one paye to buy a future on gold on a centralized market place, more or less than 5%?

Technical Support / Synch stops at block 12160
« on: January 10, 2014, 02:04:36 am »
Hi,

I installed pts-qt 0.1 in early november. The wallet was synchronized fine. I received 125.5 PTS and I made a wallet.dat

Then I didn't open it for months. And now whn I try to run it the sync stops at block 12160 (from then it keeps running forever with no progress). I have try to start with -reindex and it don't change anything.

The problem is that I have try to run my wallet.dat file on another PC but it didn't work, so I think my only option is to make to synchronize that wallet. What sould I do?

If that can help, my conf file is :
Quote
server=1
daemon=1
rpcuser=<snip>
rpcpassword=<snip>
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=15555
port=15554

#dbcache=1000

BitShares PTS / Sync takes forever
« on: December 20, 2013, 01:28:29 am »
Hi,

With protoshare-qt I had the message "no available block source" so I went to the console and add some nodes.

Then it went from "3 weeks behind" to "2 days behind" but then no progess was made and the client seems to be stuck forever at "2 days behind". I waited several hours and nothing moved. I tried to add more node but that didn't change anything
I have 11 connections to the Protoshare network, i don't know if it's good or not.

What should I do ?
