I’d like to mention btsbots. Marko and I started a room a while ago with the simple purpose of solving liquidity on the dex. From this room the bot proposal room was started.

In the liquidity room we have over 100 members now, btsbots is so hard to use I’d bet there’s less than 5 people in the room actively using it and these are some of the keenest people to provide liquidity in the community. All we talk about is btsbots and staggered orders, sometimes arbitrage. Jonny bitcoin has made a video guide, I have written a guide. Still we don’t know for sure what it does. How many years has btsbots been around? How few people are using it? Know about it? How little liquidity is it providing. To say btsbots is adequate to provide serious liquidity to the dex is naive and very unrealistic.

Btsbots only works on some markets and is only one strategy. The bot we are proposing will be available on ALL markets, even user created asset markets.

I hope that clears up why btsbots is a great toy to play with and not a good tool to work with. We are talking about providing serious liquidity to the whole dex. Not some chump change to one market. We need billions in liquidity.

Suggesting btsbots as adequate for this task, is quite frankly, a joke.

Whenever I read promises like these
Quote
Someone tells you that there is a way to increase the value of your coin and simultaneously accumulate more of it. An easy way. You can just stake your coins and get a passive income. Like you can have your own masternode with as little as $1. You might earn 0.01% per day, or 10%. Depends on the day. And you don't even take the value from someone else.

a klaxon goes off  in my head and a big red sign reading "SCAMMER" lights up.

You cannot write a bot that trades with a guaranteed profit.

thanks for highliting the language in the proposal needs changing. This is certainly not a guarantee of profits but providing tools to all so that everyone can be a market maker and provide liquidity to the dex. How profitable a market making strategy or business becomes is entirely up to the user.

Btsbots already does pretty much what you describe, and they did not ask for funding through worker or other way. Sorry bro, but you have a tough competition here.
Bts bots is not easy to use and no one knows exactly what it’s programmed to do, for example it doesn’t work from the midpoint it works from the settlement price. This is not ideal. In active markets we need the option to work from a calculated mid point.

The point of the worker proposal is to provide liquidity providing tools to the masses so that everyone can help increase liquidity on the dex. Btsbots will never provide this. Also in the proposal it offers two additional liquidity providing strategies that btsbots does not offer (triangle arbitrage and staggered orders).

Hi, I’m fairly new to bitshares, the only reason I even heard about it is because I was looking for a fund that tracked cryptos and stumbled upon bit twenty.

I agree more marketing is needed. We have a working product, we should be marketing it.

This is great to see ineffective exchange price feeds removed.

Hopefully we can be kept updated here on how this change pans out.

We are not listed as a selectable exchange where you can choose to get prices from our markets on Blockfolio, Waves is. We need to all message, email or tweet Blockfolio to add us. It will only happen if enough people ask for it.

It’s a great way to advertise our markets, dex and bitAssets. Everyone uses blockfolio, everyone trades or watches btc/usd. Everyone messes with the drop down box. No one sees the name bitshares.

You can contact them here:

Twitter- @blockfolioapp
Email- support@blockfolio.com
Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/BlockfolioApp/

Telegram- https://telegram.me/joinchat/C_VyZj4fwvsmQCtLytqAGg/

Please do your bit, it’s only a quick message.

Awareness is another, we could all start posting on https://www.tradingview.com/  and similar sites making traders aware of Openledger  and Rudex
This is a fairly simple but good idea, also etoro. It has a lot of noob users looking to buy bitcoin that don’t know how. They have a good forum/ chat room thing on their app. Few of us should start sharing posts on how bitshares is safest best way to trade crypto

For those of us who want to chip in but don’t fully understand the mechanics. How are the bit assets pegged above the price at the moment? What has been put in place to stop it dropping and why can’t it be used on the opposite side to stop it rising. Just so we all understand the situation and problem better. Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: bitUSD black swan possiblity
« on: October 27, 2017, 08:35:35 am »
We need a massive dedicated account used exclusively for creating BitUSD and BitCNY.
It should be funded by a rolling worker proposal.

We have discussed this more than once. It is not the purpose of the reserve pool to take the risk away from traders.

Yes, and everytime it is discussed most people agree that something like this needs to be done.
Worker proposals are for anything that helps bitshares grow and improve and having a large supply of well collateralised BitUSD and BitCNY would reduce the chances of a black swan.
Theres obviously an issue with lack of BitUSD/BitCNY when looking at those margin calls that were coming in.
If either BitUSD or BitCNY did black swan how do you expect bitshares to recover from the the damage in reputation it would suffer if the peg failed.
I kind of agree with both of you at this point, I agree with Johnny it’s needed but don’t think our pool funds should be used for interfering in markets. There’s no law on this and a worker proposal should be raised and put to vote.

I don't know much about marketing. Not far ago I've seen on steemit one guy called bitshares "a Lamborghini in a farm barn". I feel exactly the same way. We have a car with a super advanced turbo charged engine which lacks a finish layer of paint, has bolts and nuts loose and full of cow crap inside. How do you want to market such a car? I don't see any way to sell it, but to finish paint, fix all loose parts and to clean up all shit.

Finally, we have a GUI which has a nice overview page (it was a shame before the last update not only buy its look, but by content too). This is a good progress, but there are still so many little flaws to fix. The biggest one imo is a margin trading. The idea of decentralized margin trading is brilliant, but current implementation on BTS is flawed, I insist on this, and this is one of the reasons why whales don't want to put their money into issuing bitAssets. I don't believe that a bunch of amateur enthusiasts, like most of us are, are able to fix this. This is a job for professionals who have experience in building traditional trading platforms. I know that the DEX by its nature is very different from forex etc, but it has to be at least not worse than traditional platforms by user experience to attract traders with big money.  This is not possible to achieve without special skills which developers of traditional finance platforms have. We need to get such people onboard.
Some great points here but I don’t agree with everything. I personally don’t think you’ll get whales here with any amount of marketing without liquidity. They can’t trade here yet, end of.

We need to focus on starting from the bottom up. We need to get the little people in here. We need to market our liquidity increasing, profitable market making strategies to smaller players. We need to get the auto bot liquidity trading strategy worker proposal raised and completed and market this to the smaller players.

To those unaware we have started 2 chat rooms, one to discuss profitable liquidity increasing strategies and one to discuss creation of the auto trading bot and introduce a worker proposal to get this done.

This will create excitement, the whole of crypto wants to get rich quick. Tell me one small player new to crypto who doesn’t want an auto bot trading on a dex for them with the dream of free money for nothing. We promote this in our tour of AMA to the small fish and we are on to a winner.

I propose we all forget about the "I think someone else better than me should do it", because at the end, nobody does anything but wait and hope someone else will do it for them.

if you think you can't do a thing, then let's focus on which thing we could do our self and in the short-medium timeframe

Great idea.

You can start by retiring this account.

We know what a "bagholder" is... it's someone left holding the bag, often "stuck" holding it.

It's ironic that you want to focus on short-medium time frames.  I suggest you choose a forum alias, without a negative connotation to it.  That would be an awesome start.
Haha he has a fair point, the name bagholder not a good advertisement. Improving marketing for you would defiantly start here [emoji23]

Doing a tour of AMA not only is great for marketing but allows us to get great feedback and to know first hand the questions consumers are asking in a wide variety of coin fan bases. If the same question is being asked over and over again we know we have a problem.

Me neither but I had an idea the other day... Ark, in there slack channel do an AMA hour (ask me anything) for other coins. Then post a transcript to their Reddit. It’s quite popular. I’ve passed stans contact details on to DR10 a prominent community member and delegate. Anyway.... my idea, we could do a tour of popular slack channels doing an AMA to “keep the wider community updated”

What do you think???

I think this is a great idea. Moreover, it can be done even without any outsider marketer's intervention. As @fav previously said, this place is run by developers, so there are a lot of folks who know plenty about inner workings of the system.
By marketing efforts I meant SEO, articles in popular magazines/papers, plugs by celebrities, weekly trending on twitter... Stuff like that. All of which are meant to increase the exposure. Your idea is also a great way to get exposure, so I'm all for it.
Just need to get some devs on board and figure out an incentive - pretty sure they are busy folks as it is, they'll want to be paid
Perhaps if we use our contacts throughout the bts community to reach out to other communities we could return the favour and allow them to do AMA in our channels? If we get things organised it could be simply an hours work for a dev to answer some questions. Payment could be put through worker proposal easy that way just for an hours work.
