General Discussion / Re: [eng] Marketing Efforts and Pre-Worker Discussion
« on: November 07, 2018, 02:53:05 am »
Hello everyone.

First of - it's very nice to see marketing efforts and offers that were recently started by Yuri (OL) and Fabian (@xeroc), it's definitely a must for BitShares to have proper branding and more focused audience.

Unfortunately, reviewing this entire proposal I do have to agree with replies before mine. It's overpriced, with 0 proper diligence on BitShares as a tech and cryptocurrency; focus they've offered is pretty much top of the default "current trends" by AdWords, and our SEO being done for new bitshares.org within just that tiny-miny worker is far more professional and focused than this.

@xeroc - i'm glad you're supporting marketing efforts and brings me joy to know that there is proper support from our top proxies for such efforts, but as a colleague from the blockchain that has experience on this matter, my advice would be to hold on for all marketing efforts until December. To be more clear, read below:

- .org is planned to be live before "Decentralized" in Athens, Greece (12th of November)
- Most of content will have already tweaked SEO on each page; what is not done for the Event from the SEO, will be completed by end of November.
- New .org will contain Google Analytics with proper integration and monitoring for each page. I'm certain that Home Page and few key pages under Technology Menu will fully done before the Event, ready to hit some traffic.
- Local online Thai Newspaper (12 years old) with 10-12k visitors monthly will advertise BitShares website for 3 months, starting the day when we put new .org online. (More traffic)
- Once we have better analytics and data collected we can:
a) Do proper marketing campaigns with targeted key-phrases, localities, offer where there is higher demand, etc. by ourselves through a worker
or b) Then hire professional marketing company with our own request and analytics collected (it's a great filter for 3rd parties while getting/considering their offers).

But at the current stage, this would have sense to be discussed again somewhere around early/mid of December.

Hi Xeroc, yep sorry BBF :) I believe DL was going to raise it as a potential worker to the BBF as per his earlier post here and gauge it's likeliness to pass.

The worker would need to cover the listing fee and then some allowance for people on the Bitshares side assisting technically with the integration - I think DL is much clearer on the quantum of effort involved in that side of things (and who can do it) than me.

Additionally it would be better for the worker to sit under someone more established / trusted in the community with a track record on some workers. I'm a trustworthy guy (honest!) but obviously nobody has seen me do much for Bitshares yet so I wouldn't expect the proxies to sign over X BTC worth of funds to me.

100% correct and thank you! @Xeroc was just clearing out fuddy air that I'm not being part of or involved (partnered) with BBF.

Mathew, I'll reach you out later today (it's chaotic Monday), I've got some new info on exchanges you are negotiating atm.

I'm very grateful and will hold you for that offer of help for the new website. Since OpenLedger was the first actual DEX dapp around BitShares and lasted this long, I believe you could contribute in various ways. For now we are under the pressure of first sprint (polish&launch of new bitshares.org), but as soon as initial Chaos is behind i'll reach you out.

Marketing.

I would recommend that you hold for about 15 days with this proposal and get it polished (e.g proper eta on budgets for ads and worker itself).

bitshares.org will run Google Analytics/AdWords and will have small pro-bono paid campaign in USA which will be used as initial traffic boost and rankings. If we could start this as focused/synced campaign, I would be willing to invite you to GA and give you more info that can actually be very useful for your future development and possibly create co-joint worker for proper Marketing Proposal.

Please let me know your thoughts and have a great day!

Dear Milos, we would be happy to collaborate in the scope of new site implementation. As soon as you are ready, please get in touch with me. In the meanwhile, here is a couple of ideas from us regarding the site update:

- Make sure the site is mobile-friendly.
- Add more “success stories” to the website outlining projects that are currently working on BitShares to show that BitShares is good for businesses.
- Add a Blog section to the website where either BitShares team members or guest authors will be able to publish their use cases, success stories, share news about BitShares and its community. This should help to improve awareness about BitShares.
-SEO:
-Add metadata on all pages (currently, even the home page misses these elements).
-Review and re-organize link profile on the website (eliminate broken links, place redirects where needed, etc.).
-Update info on the BitShares in the most important online directories, catalogs, wiki pages, etc. Right now the info is outdated on many sources.
 - setup and optimize Google analytics(goals tracking, conversions tracking, etc).

Yuri,

Thanks for reply.

- Mobile-Friendly/Responsive will be polished the last, since we don't have yet final content/structure, but overall is good.
- Blog will not be there for a while. Unless we organize a proper worker and authors for it. I'm terribly sorry, but un-filtered content and freedom of speech can be applied on Steem where it belongs, but on Corporate website it will just not happen, just for sake of legal and brand itself.
- Meta is being done page per page, once the content is final (readability, targeted keywords/phrases, h1 and h2 headings structure, etc) - example can be found here

For the rest, let's take this as separate discussion in bitshares.org worker related topic, after smaller update tomorrow, to not make here a lot of off-topic discussion.

Have a great Sunday!

I've negotiated with LATOKEN (number 36 when I looked  today) to list bitUSD and bitCNY for 7 BTC + 1 BTC in native token. Both will be listed with 4 pairs (BTC, ETH, USDT and LAT).

Notwithstanding the bounty and discussion over whether this counts as 'base' I would like to see us get listed and I've got a draft agreement from LATOKEN. I have emailed BBF for some guidance on how it gets finalised.

Bitshares: matle85

There is no reason for movement and achievement like this that your Bounty is being used for listing. It would be also very bad incentive for future movements of Community like yours here. I believe that both BBF(maybe mistaken, but I've seen someone else's offer around) and bitcrab are offering Bounties for getting us on listings. Please be kind and send an email with details for LATOKEN on email I've PM'ed to You in Telegram, and I'll personally forward it to BBF with Worker Proposal that will cover the listing fee.

Blockchain is getting listed, and blockchain has to pay.
You are helping the blockchain with it, and you have to get your reward (bitcrab's bounty).

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly in Telegram if you need anything.

If anyone disagree with what I've just said, please provide reasonable "why".

Dear Bitshares community!

During the last months there were many discussions around the matter, and OpenLedger is happy to offer specific marketing efforts to promote Bitshares magic all over the world.
Originally we were going to offer Bitshares site redesign as well, but at the moment it seems to be addressed by a WP from Milos. We would be happy to participate those efforts, if any help needed, but at the moment I would like to focus on other marketing activities.

Here is what we offer:

1. Paid ads and traffic

OpenLedger team suggests setting up and running two advertising campaigns:

- Display ads campaign on tier 1 blockchain/crypto media sources such as coinmarketcap.com, cryptocompare.com, cointelegraph.com, etc. to attract new users to the platform.
- Remarketing campaign for all bitshares.org visitors to make sure those users see BitShares display ads for the next 90 days after visiting bitshares.org website. This should help to convert visitors into traders more aggressively.

2. Content marketing

OpenLedger proposes to publish a series (5 items) of articles about BitShares platform to cover the following topics:
-BitShares and its advantages for traders
-BitShares and its advantages for businesses
-Stable-coins. Why invest and trade?
-BitShares and its referral program
-BitShares technical overview. Its tech advantages over Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.

All the articles should be published on tier 1 blockchain/crypto such as cointelegraph.com, newsbtc.com, ccn.com, etc. The goal is to get maximum exposure in front of the crypto audience and increase BitShares brand awareness.

We would like to know your opinion if this is something the community wants. Any proposals and questions are highly appreciated!

P.S. I would appreciate if Alex (Clockwork) can cast his opinion on this, since he has some great marketing skills and experience that he has been hiding from us (just look at the event organizer skills for Decentralized - its been done in less than a week).

I would like to have a link to hackthedex.io . Submitted an issue here: https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares.org/issues/2

Consider it done, and process we can discuss more there (I've replied).

262
1) With the launch of the new website for the bitshares.org , this worker would be full power to release some proper word/marketing there and bring us closer to the mainstream.
2) I sincerely hope that Spokesperson/BBF will accept this invite. It would be finally proper use-case scenario for her position/title.
3) As "TBD Attendee" - My personal suggestion would be Abit/Fabian. There is no better value-choice/addition to this package/scenario.

As Event checks out as informational (tech wise) only, strongly suggest Ryan R. Fox to be main speaker (for reasons we all know that needs no discussion).

I don't have with much to vote in Stake(BTS), but definitely VOTED.

All above - my personal opinion.

263
Would that require additional switch on UIA/Token management/creation ? e.g. "Allow borrow", "Set interest %", etc...

On the legal side, it would allow users/gateways to actually provide service of "Money Lending", which is without proper licencing not allowed in most countries of the world.
- Who would be taking responsibility ? Blockchain ? *(if not ignore next question)* If does, how blockchain earns from UIA as part of the process ?

Or it would be done on core level, and instead of UIA we will re-issue BTC, ETH, and others as new form of half smart-assets half UIA assets ?

Apologies if my questions not have much sense, I'm trying to clarify it for myself.

Why pay for SSL certs when you can get them for free using certbot?

I'm not sure of the neccessity of the newsletter, email nor professional inquiry panel, these feel like centralizing BTS around this website.

1) Paid SSL at inbound price of 10ish Dollar per certificate for a year with signature of the domain on it is not same security as free ssl certbot.

2) Newsletter is common in any normal business in the world. Its being used for signups and monthly notifications to its clients/partners.

Everything but "centralizing" is included in this worker.

Many thanks for your opinion and support.

Hey there :)

Suggestion for white background and color palette of the logo (as on image below) would be too much ? It would be cool to follow the trend with upcoming website :D

I'm 100% supporting and buzzing you in TG for extra stickers!

Thanks for all the efforts!

Supported by vote on behalf of Trusty and myself.

Will this work alongside current documentation uplift efforts? https://t.me/joinchat/AWRo40N1sGr9SNGo_pv3KA
The idea is to utilize the available resources there and merely guide the documentation efforts
to fit into the lessons learned (most compliance) ... We'd also like to find a solution to have a
community member deal with the project management and have everyone benefit from their
work. Consider the whole worker proposal a "bounty program" that is lead by Blockchain Projects BV
(as a legal entity to take the lead and responsibility) and put forth by the community under guidance.

Is there any updates on this Worker? As I understood it, the goal of this worker is to update the current online documentation.

So far, there hasn't been any updates to this since March in this thread, and the accounting page on bitshares.foundation, https://workers.bitshares.foundation/201802-documentation, mentions no invoice.

Does this worker post updates elsewhere, does it have a goal/roadmap on what is required to be done before the end and does it allow easy access for community submissions to its goal?

I believe that it was up to the Community and rest of the eco-system to step-up and claim Bounty on making the proper documentation. Far as initial expectations from this worker I see new WhitePaper done and a lot of Compliance in it.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: BSIP22

Its not that simple and it needs to be expanded/more specific. Please check my comment on multi-level proxies, its kinda related. And its important to understand both sides of the medal

https://github.com/bitshares/bsips/issues/79#issuecomment-418610701

Btw, after I've done some more detailed research, 'down-voting' would bring more war rather than balance and peace, so ignore that part.

Update:

Thanks to everyone + special thanks to whoever was yesterday deciding vote on worker to gets voted in.

We are creating today on github repository and team will start work/logging hours no more late than this Friday. Commits will be available only to the BitShares github team until admin decide/review what is for public release.
