General Discussion / Re: Why the BTS network status is so bad these days?
« on: December 20, 2018, 03:31:51 pm »
the team need to be responsable for the whole development process include management / design / implement / test.
now all I can see is several unusable "stable" release, and seems nobody can tell me which one is the really stable/usable version.
Rewarding testing/bug-reports is out of scope of the ui workers, avoid 'release candidate' or 'staging' releases if you're only wanting to run 'stable/usable' versions. You should most certainly be updating your UI to the latest stable whenever possible otherwise you're a target.

He means that even a stable release contains bugs, not even talking about the candidates.

377
To get an idea of the reach, how many did participate?

378
Latest UI release candidate shows the bids as well, and allows the bidding

can you tell me which stable version do you use?
when I met a problem, I try to change another version, almost every stable version has different problems after I try less than  several minutes.
I think there are no need to report bug for such unstable software, they need to test themself, it's a job with payment, not a hobit job.

for the issue brought by abit, it's also the GUI's job of course, they used a wrong design, used a wrong api.
when I tell the wallet that my account is alt, it just need to subscribe infomation about alt, I never told it to subscribe other account with the same key.
eventually, it even bring those junk account to my default list of transfer function. such stupid.

Appreciate any feedback, and I do agree with your basic sentiment. Since I have been quite active as a dev for the UI worker the past months I'd like to craft a reply.

The UI worker is a prime example of a decentralized worker that requires community feedback (beauty and curse). There is no fixed team besides Bill Butler (Manager), Startail (Issue review) and Sigve (Code review, I am currently doing that in Sigve's absence). The UI worker is structured primarily over GitHub issues that are driven by the community. This allow the worker to move the UI in the exact direction the community wants it to go, with the downside of the lack of a centralized lead that enforces a Roadmap. Any developer can pick up issues and contribute which allows the worker to be very flexible, while it brings the problems of possible regression and (up until recently) lack of testing.

I am actively collecting community feedback in various channels, see e.g. in Steem here: https://steemit.com/@sschiessl and I always have an open ear to critic as well.

To the issue of testing: The reference wallet has a massive abundance of features built-in, and testing it is no easy task. I totally agree with you on the notion though, that is why I have introduced explicit and mandatory integration testing for release candidates before every release. See the last two

The release 181212 is currently delayed because the integration tests are not completed yet. I would happily open a dialogue with you to see in what way you would consider supporting the UI worker.

Stefan

P.S. In the recent update we have included "Spotlight" into the UI which is used to highlight use-cases of the BitShares Blockchain outside of having a native DEX. This is done to enhance the value proposition to BTS outside of being collateral for stable coins.

380
Done.

Please ask a native english person to help correct some of the language, I could guess what it means but was unsure

The BitShares community needs to re-examine the development strategy. We should pay attention to the development of other application scenarios, let the ecology bloom, and let more products and application scenarios support the price of BTS. At that time, the development of SmartCoins could be achieved. In addition to current features (such as account system, account permissions hierarchical control, Multi-Hierarchical Flexible Multi-Signature, Memo, whitelist and blacklist, User Issued Assets, Decentralized Exchange, Proposed Transactions, 3 seconds to pack a block, 1.5s average transaction confirmation time, etc., there can be many applications in any combination. The scene can be developed), bsip43, bsip44 are all worth promoting.

The new release candidate takes one step towards that by introducing a new section: Spotlight (https://staging.bitshares.org/#/spotlight). It is exactly meant for that, I will happily take ideas what to put there!

Anyways, this is only visible to people already in BitShares and not to the outside, but it is a step in the right direction.

383
Please create a PR into the bitshares-ui repository for the inclusion of your node

General Discussion / Re: Marketing Proposal
« on: December 05, 2018, 10:36:49 am »
You need coindesk to carry it.

Look at this article that Edan Yago wrote:
https://www.coindesk.com/there-is-no-bitcoin-what-the-sec-doesnt-get-about-cryptocurrency

...do some more research, the guy isn't really a journalist. Click his name, he does 1 or 2 articles a year.

But his opinions were published. His CementDAO was featured at the top of the article "for free".

Coindesk (which a lot of people read) rarely reports on Bitshares -- whether we think we're important or not. That is because we haven't followed this:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KDyOEwISAR9UWDa7qP-Gg5-Nm0wvBFT_IlgqboxXbco/edit

Simply blogging, and sending out tweets, requires you to build your own following.   Take an existing following and get those eyeballs to see what you have to write about... coindesk gives free advice on how to get that done.  Other publications will tell you how to get it done there too..

I have written things for Coindesk https://www.coindesk.com/?s=bitspark and am good friends with some of the people there. Happy to do a piece mentioning Bitshares, will work on one in my spare time, but for Coindesk or other publications to carry it it needs a unique angle/insight/insider perspective. Just posting about transactions per second goes to the spam folder.

Regarding marketing proposal, essentially a worker for this needs to have defined goals, KPIs and messaging, thats how these things work. The people in Bitshares are strong on technical knowledge but weak on business/sales/marketing knowledge. I would prefer a worker proposal that would be done by a professional company as to do it right its alot of work and not simply 'just post something on twitter'.  Will ask around some of the crypto PR companies and see if anything shows up.

I ll happily help with facts and texts, also towards Kong of course.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Witness Proposal] blckchnd
« on: December 04, 2018, 07:09:49 pm »
Thank you very much for the report!

386
For anything that requires voting (witness, worker proposal), reptuation is key. Hence, I strongly recommend becoming active in the community, get your self familiar with it and establish a standing in the community.
The better you do, the faster you can become an essential part of the community.
@clockwork is a good example, he started to be active about 12 months ago and made it to top1 committee and top1 witness.

+1

387
Will it be better to integrate with existing wallet or create a new one ? i.e. integrate with beet (https://github.com/bitshares/beet) or Reference Wallet ?
What functionalities do you want most ?

Yes, Beet!

I'm happy to see a marketing proposal. Start small, grow from that. I understand using twitter might be argueable, but it's a reasonable start.

Question I have is how to establish an "official" bitshares marketing brand, that is sanctioned through a worker proposal, and also how to indicate that properly.

389
@alt if you really don't want bitcny to go GS (globally settle), you'd better vote for the witnesses who are feeding price higher than GS price, and don't vote for the witnesses who are feeding price lower than GS price. Of course, if you want GS, you can ignore this comment.

1. the best strategy is max(realprice, GS price)
2. the second is real price
3. the last is manupulation price
wirntess please give a feed price with strategy max(real price, GS price)
please leave your account name here if you agree and have done this.
I will vote for the first 9
others witness who still agree the BSIP 42 will never get my vote

This kind of price feed is exactly what BSIP42 describes, so you are pro BSIP 42.

390
The difference in the price feed results from BSIP42, which goal is to create a tight peg of bitCNY to CNY.

To clarify: No bitUSD were converted to BTS during the glocal settlement. People lost their margin positions, which are now owned by the settlement fund. But they still have the same value in BTS as before. Loosing your margin position means you lost your leverage which would kick in when BTS price is rising, you can now bid on the collateral of the settlement fund to get your position back and facilitating the revival.

The node hotfix is indirectly related. There was a bug in the bid_collateral method that allows to revive a globally settled asset, which was pretty much never used so far but now with bitUSD globally settled people started the bidding. I would say the swift reaction of the core team in fixing the bug and getting the chain operational again is a very strong argument pro BTS, and not against. Just like any other Software, a Blockchain can have bugs. Question is how you deal with them.

Cheers,
 Stefan
