MemoryCoin / Re: One pool with almost 100% hashpower
« on: December 26, 2013, 07:05:35 pm »
Currently there is one pool with almost 100% hashpower. It makes MemoryCoin very unsecure at the moment.

We definitely should do something with it.
The creator has sold the source code to "a few" people.

Personally I feel it should be opensourced.

Still got a few days until they create pools :S has the damage already been done?
I am asking how much it will cost to buy, but I imagine it is a ridiculous sum. I would have a pool up by this evening however.

Opesourced to community of greedy, selfish miners who don't mind to mine with every bit of cpu power they can get for free or steal? Hmm, what could possibly be wrong with this?
The fact that they are already doing this, but on a pool that can damage the network
Not this early. You do not want to 51% the coin you have income in, that would kill it right away.

On the contrary -- this is the perfect time to cement your own business and damage everyone else. You don't have to destroy the currency as such, you *are* supporting it, but are the only party who can mine as much as desired -- and you can let others mine, or not mine as you please.
Until, say difficulty rises and you lose interest.

It is *really* bad idea to release new crypto currencies without already designed mechanism to start pools -- with open source software. People will mine anyway -- making sure that only few will have the privilege to benefit from this is bad. Wasting lots of resources by building closed source "sort of works" pools is expensive for everyone.
I don't mind the serverside being closed source as long as there is at least 6 other pools. It does work well in all fairness but one person should not have this much power.

ok what is status now? !

1 KillerByte Pool - pls check the pool if works stable etc.

2 http://mmcpool.com/

Pls gimme your feedback about
MMCPool is currently working and has 100% of hashing power. Its actually a problem, we need 6 pools basically now

A ridiculous sum to buy the sources could lead to ridiculous fees on these new pools.
Doubt it, he is charging 3.5% which is ridiculous but because he has high hash power people will go for consistent payouts. They will probably charge less.

We need at least 6 pools, in my opinion.

so waited a few blocks more and seems that my 200 hpm is getting 60 hmp on the pool and making almost 1 MMC from 20 servers (32 cores/server)

Going to give it around 10-15 minutes more, if it stays the same going back to xpool.

Update:

HPM on the site is going down, lol sorry but I lost trust in this pool. if the stats are correct then the 1200 HPM miner must have a 1000 servers running.

Back to xpool.
I trust this, I just imagine its a botnet. If it is a botnet that is approx 6000 bots which is quite easy to get...

Montaxx you seem like a great candidate, change that '4' to for and you have my vote!

It would be great to see the pool source and be able to maintain a healthy mining balance by letting many others set up similar pools.
He has sold the source to a few people. I am looking to buy but not sure what the cost is. He currently has (give or take) 99% hash power which is very dangerous

Just threw my votes into the ring, hopefully they made a difference.
I just saw them, thank you very much.

I can't stand the thought that someone with clearly enough wealth already is stealing from the charity pot. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same person currently mining at 350h/m
I'm one of the top miners (more than 350 h/m) and I would never do that.. Although, as I wrote above it's extremely easy to fool the system... This voting system needs rethinking.
Its proportional, so if you sent 1 vote from 500 wallets with 1 coin each it would be the same as one vote from a wallet with 500 coins.

Yep, as I wrote... It's even worse...
1 vote from a 51k MMC wallet > 5000 votes from a 10 MMC wallet.
So money is power...
Thats currently 40BTC at current rates, but buying that many would push the price UP so its not really much of a problem. The more people that come here, the more dispersion of wealth there is and the more democratic it becomes.

When is money ever not power?

40BTC OR a big amount of Protoshares + massive amount of MMC from previous role rewards (ceo, cto).
I'm not making these numbers up. Scroll up to my messages and you can see an example... How 1 single vote with a 51k (now more) wallet chose a candidate.
We've now beaten his vote, I'm more concerned about one pool having 100% of the hashing power. Its already devalued the coin by 50%!

CPU only, which is often regarded a good thing.

Paid positions will be very highly competed in future and will require someone who does a lot to get the position.

CPU coin that isn't a scam.

Community already working on a LOT, I myself am working on a gambling service and SPV wallet.

Okay this is ridiculous, you seem to have nearly 100% hashing power. PLEASE can you release the source this makes our coin look awful.
