MemoryCoin / Portable Windows for your servers! (How to)
« on: December 25, 2013, 09:55:08 pm »
Hello all! I'm Chronos24 and I've been mining alt coins for the last year. I originally started with five 7950's and when the market dropped I panic sold my mining gear  :o. Which I now regret. I see memorycoin and it reminds me of the beginning of the litecoin community.  8)

I see lots of *nix guides popping up around this place but I figured a Windows guide couldn't hurt.

Things you will need.

*Usb 3.0 thumb drive or external hard drive. (Can use usb 2.0 but might be to slow) 32gig or larger.

*Windows7, Windows8, or Vista... ISO file. (Make sure your licenses are valid  ;)

*PWboot( This is the tool you will use to make your portable windows.)

Some antivirus engines flag this as a virus or a hacktool, Ignore and add to whitelist.

*install pwboot
   *Follow prompts for pwboot

What this tool does is take your ISO file and installs it to your media of choice. When PWboot finishes your windows will be installed to your thumb drive/external. You don’t have to do anything else with windows except plug it in and boot from the device. Windows will start with no installation necessary.  Add your favorite software and you are up and running :).

The benefit of doing this.

*Setup one thumbdrive and copy and paste them to any other thumbdrive. Easier and less time consuming than imaging or manual setup.

This is the setup I used when mining with my 7950’s. I never had any problems and they consumed less power than an ssd or traditional HDD.

Don’t install service packs!!! on these drives!!! It will corrupt the installation.

This is my quick and dirty guide. When I get more time I’ll clean this up. If you have any questions or concerns let me know.

Merry Christmas!
