General Discussion / Re: A thought experiment on Bitshares.
« on: October 02, 2019, 09:23:32 am »
The vote weight from the 1x CR from any BTS backed bitasset should be allocated to the bitasset holder, not the debt holder.

Bad idea....gives shitloads of power to BTS shorters..and it's much easier to drop price than raise it

I'd rather have that voting weight "lost" ....essentially the debtor's incentive is for price to go up, the holder's is for it to go down....one has put up 1x collateral, the other holds an asset worth 1x collateral with opposite incentives.

I'd say consider them as cancelling each other out and not assign that weight at all

Why invest a lot of money in holding mediocre conferences? There will be no investors in Athens, there will be students in Athens ! Who needs Bitshares there. For the image ????

a) You're wrong.
b) Yes. For the image.  BitShares has a SEVERE brand equity problem. It's not just lack of awareness.

It is important for Bitshares to stimulate demand and attract a specific audience - traders!
You will say that you need technical updates for Bitshares. But no!!! Bitshares works fine !!! Bitshares need advertising !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try onboarding tens of thousands of traders with existing API and infrastructure and then tell me technical updates are not needed.

Think that if the conference budget in Athens would be invested in the promotion of contextual advertising and advertising on YouTube for special requests. Tens of thousands of people would know about Bitshares.

tens of thousands already know and think it's a centralized scam.

And how many people will learn about the Bitshares at the conference. And if advertising on the Internet would give a conversion of real users, then advertising at the conference does not guarantee any sales of BTS.

No it wouldnt necessarily. But it would set nice fundamentals for other marketing opportunities that do... As I said.. It's a brand equity issue.

Bitshares needs a marketing team that understands what it does.
Of course, we would recommend ourselves, because we have a vision and we know what we are talking about.

If there are people here who are really interested in development, then we can talk about business. We have been in Bitshares for almost a year and a half, and during this time we have not seen a single good marketing from Bitshares. Here people who have never worked as marketers and never brought a product to the market are engaged in marketing.

My day job has been marketing for the last 16 years at WPP subsidiaries such as Ogilvy and Soho Square servicing clients such as Lufthansa, Siemens, IBM, Microsoft, Nestle, Coca-cola, Pizza Hut and more and have received multiple awards for work done.

There are many tools that optimize advertising costs and make it effective. Bitshares deserves to be known about her. Stop killing the Bitshares with bad decisions !!!!!!

Yes there are. And yes it does deserve it. Hopefully others will join in and help. Any decent marketing idea/worker is more than welcome. You don't have to bash other workers to get support for yours. Nor is it fair to consider any marketing spend a waste when there was no alternative suggestion.

I'll reiterate... If you don't realise BitShares has an image/brand equity problem, any hard-selling advertising attempts will probably fail.

Because Bitshares can be more than that. The Bitshares have a truly colossal business potential !!!
Bitshares is a huge profitable business that needs your sincere love and interest. This business just needs to be engaged, and it will grow to heaven.

1. That is a Pump scheme that immediately enables that rich trader to dump all his other or anyone else's BTS for massive profit. A predictable and publicly announcment price increase is inviting too many malicious players

right.

so I feel the rich man may not accept the "stay above for more than 72 hours" condition.

This is a game which is more suitable for playing in dark, not in public.

This is a game not suitable playing period.

Stop trying to make BTS even more of a scam than it's already perceived to be.

Do you know what people including us would say about an asset that used reserve/investor funds to pump its own price up?

Stop trying to take shortcuts and turning BTS into a get rich quick scheme. Add value the old fashioned way.

If I could get 20,000+ active users, I would like to restart

If we could get 20000+ users we wouldnt have to :)

If attempts to tighten the peg have failed, go back to original settings. Start over.

Apart from API node, testnet seed (which you said were included in the scope),

I also provide:
ES node with
API explorer: http://bts-es.clockwork.gr:5000/apidocs/
and
Kibana: http://bts-es.clockwork.gr:8001/app/kibana

I have also developed (with Zapata42) a telegram witness monitoring bot:

General Discussion / Re: How to use Committee Funds
« on: September 16, 2019, 10:17:04 am »
1. Short Term Loan for Worker Proposals, Witnesses, Developers and KYC BTS Members
- Short term loan for WP, Witnesses ad Developers who need urgent money, the loan is backed by their future 1-2 months income. The interest rate suggested is 5-10% per month, if interest too low it may be abused. No KYC Required.
- Short term loan for long term BTS Holders, KYC required since they have no future income from Bitshares to support them. Interest rate suggested is 15-25% per month. Set a maximum limit how much they can borrow to reduce risk.

2. Invest in Startup/Business
- Some entrepreneurs have the knowledge and skill to build a business but lack of funding. If Committee decided to invest into them, then request them for a permanent free advertising slot for Bitshares (especially online business), integrate BTS and BitCNY/USD in their payment gateway and share a portion of their future profit.
- Invest in Startup/Business is very risky but worth to try because it is a good method to have great exposure to business world and if any of the business become successful, then Bitshares have positive cash flow outside of DEX.

5-10% / month? that's 200-300% APR...

We're a decentralized exchange....not decentralized loansharks :D

General Discussion / Re: Committee Fund Operation Review
« on: September 12, 2019, 08:17:39 am »
Why not let BBF pay the 2.5M BTS to committee-account, then the latter borrow 600K CNY with 8.27M BTS and margin call price=0.116 CNY(less than current GS price), and pay back to BBF?

I find this a good suggestion, joint effort and using community funds as collateral for community approved payments.

would have to be a separate account for transparency reasons as unlocked collateral (as market fees pay back the loan) should be burned back to the chain

In worst case scenario, try to ask for downgrade rather than cancellation.

I've already responded in TG but also here for posterity:

It's impossible to downgrade seeing as we're event partners and not just a simple sponsor. Would actually cost the organizers more to downgrade us and find a new sponsor.

This is not happening. We'll remain event partners. The question is will we make a fool of ourselves with hardly any presence there or not.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Worker] Bitshares UI Worker Proposal for 2019

The upcoming release is put on hold as it cannot be finalized. We regret this step, yet it is a most unfortunately a necessary measure since we can't uphold the required integration testing and subsequent bugfixes.

How much funds are needed to release the update ?

Well update was planned just after the (unfunded) sprint ending 190830. Judging by our sprints so far and removing non-release related work (UI redesign), probably looking in the region of 10-12k USD.

I'll be there too

No matter what? That's nice of you :)

Hello everyone,

Here's the latest status update for the Decentralized conference worker.

As most of you know, the Decentralized worker has been voted out for almost the last month. This, combined with the bear market has severely limited the worker's funding and if things remain that way, its effectiveness will be very limited minimising the value we can gain from the actual sponsorship payment (which has already been committed for the most part). Essentially we're co-presenting a conference and will possibly end up with little to no actual presence there. This will smear our public image once again.

So I would like BTS holders and proxies to reconsider their voting.

In order to recap, I will mention once again that this is no mere sponsorship but BitShares along with the University of Nicosia are presenting/offering this conference (the largest business-oriented blockchain conference in Europe and one of the biggest in the world) as co-organisers.

The sponsorship (apart from the actual conference) will provide us with a wealth of marketable information such as:

- 1-year's membership in the IFF (more details here: https://www.unic.ac.cy/iff/ + https://github.com/clockworkgr/worker-proposals/blob/master/20190313%20-%20IFF%20Presentation.pdf )
- Ability to pay University of Nicosia courses tuition fees in BTS/bitUSD/bitEUR
- Dr. Philip Brown's presentation of academic research into bitAssets (which has been accepted for the Academic Track of the conference)

The BitShares and University of Nicosia powered conference will also be sponsored by the government of Canada, Whizgrid, Eurobank, OByte, Consensys, Block.co , blockchain.com and many many others.

Confirmed speakers include Dr. Adam Back (Blockstream CEO), Bill Barhydt (Abra CEO), Perianne Boring (Founder of Chamber of Digital Commerce), Ian Grigg (ex-R3 and EOS/block.one), Dr. Garrick Hileman (Blockchain - Head of Research), Marta Piekarska (Head of Ecosystem - Hyperledger), Tone Vays + individuals from MakerDAO, Consensys, Grant Thornton, Eurobank, Corda/R3, IEEE,  Trezor, the European Commission, Parity, UNICEF, Accenture and many european universities and governments.

Expected attendance is >2000 and judging by last year, a large percentage of attendees are businesses looking to adopt and integrate blockchain technology as well as European public officials.

I will once again express my belief that this is an amazing opportunity for BitShares to regain some of the spotlight as an actively maintained and progressing platform ideal for business integrations and can be heavily marketed and promoted.

This is also the reason I believe we must have a strong business, technology and community presence there in order to gain the most value from the worker. Remember this is no ordinary sponsorship/attendance where a handful of people would be enough but to the public eye it is a conference CO-ORGANISED by BitShares and as such it needs representatives from the whole ecosystem.

Depending on funding, the tentative speakers representing BitShares and businesses building on BitShares are:

Ryan R. Fox (Core Team)
OpenLedger
BitSpark
Everprove
1000 cities/100 cities project (Guoan)

Please vote and ensure the sponsorship is a success and we can get the necessary people there to promote BitShares.

Thank you.

Alex

Actually, AFAIK, from the CN community, both MagicWallet and GuoAn have interest in speaking in the conference. They do have concerns about their own costs.

I think, if unable to get enough funding from the worker, perhaps we can look for individual sponsors to support the speakers who lack of funding?

Seeing as I believe we will be able to just about fund the sponsorship and attendance/flights/accommodation of the 4 speakers at the very least, can someone help me get in touch with them?

Or they can reach out to me on TG @clockworkgr or WeChat id: clockworkgr

Organisers need me to finalise the speaker list ASAP.

Put the core work in Chinese kids hands for 10 usd an hour and bitshares will probably be dead in a few months with luck independently of the price. The bitshares core haves the highest quality standards than any other graphene project, it is a very hard work for men(or woman), not for kids.

en?!

I am trying to defend the core team work, my apologies if i offended you. It is not a matter or where are the programmers from but more how old they are.

i would think that was quite obvious since Abit's chinese
