General Discussion / Re: 2016 Vision Blog Post
« on: December 29, 2015, 03:13:16 am »
Bitshares was in the great position to be a decentralized exchange, with increased security, and 0% chance of being mf globaled.  The amount of traders that would have embraced this would have been huge... i personally know very influential traders that fear that the markets will be taken away within the next 10 years.  With bts that would have been impossible.  All we had to do was grow that business... but we killed our golden goose.

I agree with your initial assessment of the 90% and that the ideological goals would be easier to achieve once the financials were secure. However I do not agree that the golden goose is dead or even lame. The platform is powerful and one person's use case for it, even if it is the creator, does not drive everything. It can still be the exchange platform for the masses, the POS that competes with Visa/Mastercard, and a social currency exchange.

IMHO this is akin to trying to decide what the internet should be used for when really we should be just insuring that it stays as open as possible.

General Discussion / Re: Q1 2016 Expectations for BitShares

It is very unlikely that Overstock will ever work with Bitshares. They did not like Bitshares and Patrick Byrne did not have kind things to say about the project.

Link? I'm curious about what he had to say.

Oh....India speaks English big time ......

That's why India developers are popular in western software firms.

Excerpts from my message to Kencode, sharing for public reference.

"1. Hindi is not India's major language nor national language. There are 22 languages and 1600 dialects. Google lets you translate into all of them, but that's for later.
2. Most Indian apps (flipkart, Paytm, Freecharge being major ones)  - all come in English. This is because India has the largest population of English speaking individuals anywhere in the world. This means, your demographic expects you to release this app in English. Releasing it in Hindi means limiting yourself in terms of users and confusing potential users.
3. India is a very ethnocentric nation. Your app will be considered to be more legitimate if its launched in English, in comparison with a local language. "

This matches up with my experience with developers I work with that are based in India. What I wasn't sure about is if there was a more common written form like Mandarin is in China.

What's the going rate for this type of work? I know the people to get this done but I'd want to pay them. I'm willing to cover the cost but have no frame of reference.

Some great delegates up and running. We are only 70M Muse votes away from securing the network.

Too busy to vote? Set clayop as your proxy and rest assured the network is being taken care of.

To a Great 2016! May artists make their due.

Tech is the best IMO, but PR is very bad... Why doesn't BM travel the US and the world to spread the words of BitShares? :)
Merry Christmas!

Stan did a great job in China :) .

seriously? I don't want to say this but I have to tell you almost nobody in china care about Stan!

It's not always about China. Even in China.

Theft by manipulation is something anyone in the market faces - especially in times of low liquidity. Hopefully the person that exploited the markets will give some of it back but, in my experience, that is not usually the case.

There are plenty of sharks in these waters and sooner or later anyone that takes a risk to provide liquidity services is going to get bitten. All we can do is try to implement systems that mitigate the risks.

Everyone thinks they are too smart to be taken right up until they are.

Surprised I'm the only one who has chosen I believe some bank/exchange is going to adopt BitShares as their backend.
  • Bitshares running on Graphene is an insanely powerful purpose built system.
  • Requires very little power to run, especially at scale, that other consensus systems can only dream of.
  • Has a dedicated team behind it continually enhancing an molding it.
I hold because I believe crypto is just coming out off its shell and Bitshares has yet to be discovered. I hold because I believe there is a combination of use case and enhancement that'll click and adoption will soar. All the ideological benefits many are seeking will come along for the ride.

Never underestimate a long con.

Very true. He may have had other irons in the fire too. 50k here, 20k there, etc. He had a real estate business as well that he might have ripped off. Wouldn't need a very big pile of loot to live like a king in the Philippines.

If I recall correctly the inventory was needed because many established dealers won't ship small quantities of PM. Min order size was much larger than the expected order size on Cryptosmith.
